in the Philippines

JEEPNEY
Maximum Speed of Travel
Travel speed varies from location to location, depending on traffic, how often the driver stops at
any hailing passenger and also how the driver operates the vehicle. Average speed is 1.5
minutes for every 1-kilometer distance at 50km/h.
Fare
Fare also varies depending on the length of destination. Minimum fare is 7.50 pesos for regular
passengers and 7.00 pesos for students and senior citizen.
Routes/Travel Radius
Route varies depending on the locality or city. (Example: Quirino Ave. to Espanya Manila)
Advantages/Disadvantages
Jeepneys are often used to travel short distances. Since the vehicle can seat almost 20
passengers, the fare is divided thus making it a lot cheaper. However, passengers are much
more susceptible to pollution and criminals, especially during night time.
TRICYCLE
Maximum Speed of Travel
Speed varies from location to location; depending on the length of travel and the condition of
the roads. Tricycles are naturally slower and often travel only on minor streets and roads.
Average speed is 3 minutes for every 1-kilometer distance at 35km/h
Fare
Minimum fare is 8.00 for the first 3-kilometer distance and 20.00 for special trips, depending on
the distance and locality.
Routes/Travel Radius
Routes of tricycles are per Barangay and often terminal to terminal. Tricycles in barangays
have color coding to determine their route jurisdictions
Advantages/Disadvantages
Since tricycles are slower, travel time is reduced compared to that of jeepneys. Smaller sidecar rooms is also smaller therefore not advisable for passengers with bigger body frames.
Tricycles are also more specific to locations than jeepneys. It can take passengers to specific
house number or blocks since it can be rented privately.
BUS
Maximum Speed of Travel
Speed of travel also varies from location to location; depending on the length of travel,
vehicular traffic, condition of roads, passenger mass and such. Typical provincial buses travel
8 hours from manila to central Luzon. City buses can travel a short time of 1-2 hours
depending on the distance of terminals and the stated conditions above
Fare
Minimum fare for ordinary buses (non-air conditioned) ranges from 15-30 pesos and 35-45
pesos for air-conditioned buses for city and provincial operations
Routes/Travel Radius
City Buses travel within Metro Manila. Provincial buses have routes that vary from north to
south. Some provincial buses travel from Manila to Ilocos as well as Manila to Bicol. Buses
travel only major highways and roads.

Advantages/Disadvantages
Passenger load-wise, buses are more ideal for provincial destinations. Provincial buses have
limits on passenger capacity so that convenience and comfort is established during long hours
of travel.
TAXI CAB
Maximum Speed of Travel
Taxi cabs are almost the same as having a private car being rented. Maximum speed of travel
varies depending on the location of the passengers desired location.
Fare
Taxis are required to be metered depending on the length or distance of travel. Starting
amount is 50-60 pesos and progresses as journey proceeds.
Routes/Travel Radius
Routes depend on the location of the passenger. They can be rented to far locations.
Advantages/Disadvantages
One major advantage of taxi cabs is being more private and can be door to door basis. It takes
you to where you want and need to go.
UV EXPRESS SERVICE (MULTI-PASSENGER VANS/FX)
Maximum Speed of Travel
Travel speed varies from location to location, depending on traffic, how often the driver stops at
any hailing passenger and also how the driver operates the vehicle. Typical travel speed from
Manila to Cavite is 1.5 to 2 hours.
Fare
Fixed rates to some UV Express service vans are implemented such as those which travels
from Manila to Provinces. Examples of rates are: Manila-Cavite: 50php, Manila-Sucat: 45php.
Routes/Travel Radius
Routes also depend on the van franchise. Routes vary from north to south and vice versa.
Advantages/Disadvantages
FX and UV Vans are more comfortable that jeepneys. It is often air conditioned and the
passengers are seated not too crowdedly.
PEDICAB
Maximum Speed of Travel
Pedicabs or padyak is typically a bicycle with side car. Since its manually operated by the
driver, this mode of transportation is the slowest of all. It travels almost 5 minutes per 200meter distance depending on the load of the side car and the strength of the driver.
Fare
Much like tricycles, pedicab drivers charge their passengers minimum fare such as 10php for
the first 2 km distance. However, this varies depending on the location and locality.
Routes/Travel Radius
Route depends on the barangay and locality; usually it travels only short distances with 1 to 2
km as its maximum distance.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Because it much slower than the others, travel time is increased and some drivers may charge
double depending on the work they exerted on driving.

PRIVATE VEHICLES
Maximum Speed of Travel
Speed of travel also varies from location to location; depending on the length of travel,
vehicular traffic, condition of roads and such. Private vehicles are more efficient when it comes
to travel time. Maximum speed of travel is 2 minutes per 3 km distance at 60km/h.
Fare
No fare is charged to the passengers
Routes/Travel Radius
Routes vary depending on the owners destinations not specific route is imposed.
Advantages and Disadvantages
It is much more convenient and comfortable to users. However, owners may find it impractical
when it comes to fuel usage as well as maintenance.
LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT (LRT)
Maximum Speed of Travel
Travel time depends on the dispatcher and other contributing factors are emergency situations
and passenger control. Maximum travel time from Monumento to Central Station is 20 minutes.
Fare
Baclaran to Central Station is 20 php and Baclaran to Monumento is now at 35php. Line 2
ranges from 12 php to 20 php.
Routes/Travel Radius
LRT has 2 lines; Line 1 travels from Baclaran up to Balintawak and Line 2 from Santolan in
Marikina to Recto Avenue in Manila. LRT Line 1 travels in a north-south manner while Line to
travels in an east-west manner.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Both are efficient in such a way that vehicular traffic is absent. However, during rush hours,
train coaches are very overcrowded therefore more susceptible to criminals and pick pockets.
METRO RAIL TRANSIT (MRT)
Maximum Speed of Travel
Travel time depends on the dispatcher and other contributing factors are emergency situations
and passenger control. Travel time from Pasay to Ayala station is 5 minutes.
Fare
Fare ranges from 13php to 28php
Routes/Travel Radius
The route of MRT is from Pasay (Taft) to North Avenue.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Same as LRT 1 and 2, MRT is efficient in such a way that vehicular traffic is absent. However,
during rush hours, train coaches are very overcrowded therefore more susceptible to criminals
and pick pockets.
PASIG RIVER FERRY
Maximum Speed of Travel
Through its entire operation, the ferry service changed their trip schedules several times. Each
boat has a 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour and 3-hour trip intervals depending on the time of the

day. Rush hours tend to have shorter boat intervals while off-peak hours tend to have longer
boat intervals. This was done to maximize the efficiency of each boats and to reduce overconsumption of fuel.
Fare
Fare prices variations are P25, P35, P45 and a P60 ticket.
Routes/Travel Radius
The route of the ferry starts from Intramuros Manila to Pinagbuhatan Pasig with a total of 14
stations.
INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC AIRPORT
Maximum Speed of Travel
Domestic flights such us Manila to Cebu only takes up 1 hour of traveling depending on the
airport and air traffic during descend. However, international flights widel varies as to the
distance of travel. For example, Manila to Japan travel time is only 1 hour but flights to Europe
can take up to 15 hours depending on the stop over and plane transfers.
Fare
Also varies from country to country and depending also on the location.
SEA FERRY
Maximum Speed of Travel
Ferry boats such as that in Batangas to Mindoro usually takes up 1 to 1.5 hours of trip.
However, provincial carriers such as those traveling from Luzon to Visayas and/or Mindanao
take up to almost 24 hours. For example, typical journey from Manila to Cebu takes up to 23
hours depending on the ship/carrier.
