CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND A REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Modern lifes schedules have now become hectic and complicated.

Family, friend and work must have a place in your daily schedule. We are
bombarded with things you have to do, things to remember. Informing the
persons involved when you have a meeting is hard work and takes up too much
time. Thus it becomes essential to keep a on our schedule to live a wellbalanced life with proper time management in every moments.
With the fast paced growing sales and market value of smart phones,
people are using them religiously. Statistically there are more smart phones
than the worlds population. From upper class to lower class, everyone owns a
mobile phone. It became a symbol of social status and became a necessity on
our daily life. Mobile apps range from entertainment, sports, banking and other
categories. This gives the mobile platform the greater number of audiences
rather than the tradition personal computers.
There are two main players in the competition for dominance on smart
phone devices operating system. These two are android develop by Google
and the iOS developed by Apple. These two has big differences. Android runs
on many brands of smart phones unlike iOS where it is only implemented on
iPhones. Android powers hundreds of millions of mobile devices in more than

4 | Page

190 countries around the world. It is the largest installed operating system in
any mobile platform and growing fast every day. Millions of users power up their
Android devices every day and start looking for apps, games, and other digital
content. The researchers choose Android because the goal is for the proposed
application to reach a vast majority of phone users and Android specification fits
the description perfectly.
With all that being said, the researchers proposed to develop an android
based application that will help with the users daily schedule. ScheduLink, the
Online Scheduling Mobile Application will be developed for Android users to
keep track of their schedule and helps to organize the event. Potential users
need to input the required data such as name, address and all the other basic
information. When the event is occurring, you can know who already arrived
and who are not. It will have a Google map to know the way on how to get
there. It also features a messaging system to provide communication on the
participants. This mobile application is total tool that will not only help users
keep a track on their schedule, but also help organize the event, and thus will
help provide a responsible lifestyle.

Review of Related Literatures

The purpose of the review of literature and related studies is to give an
insight for the readers and the researcher on what the topic is all about. It gives

5 | Page

out theoretical basis on the research being conducted and it will give out the
differences and similarities between the literature being reviewed and the
conducted research.
According to Kyle Bowen and Matthew D. Pistilli of Purdue University,
student device ownership was largely focused on two smart phone platforms,
Android and iPhone, which together represented 83% of survey responsesAndroid (43%) slightly edged iPhone(40%). It is important to note that while
iPhone represents a specific device, Android represents many different devices
and manufacturers. The survey did not explore specific devices or version
numbers.
This journal states that android is the most used operating system for
mobile devices because it is installed on many devices that are much cheaper
than the iPhone and thus proving that the researchers choice for the platform
is much better.
According to Margaret Buttler of Inovaspire, published in Published in
IEEE Pervasive Computing, The mobile phone landscape changed last year
with the introduction of smart phones running Android, a platform marketed by
Google. Android phones are the first credible threat to the iPhone market. Not
only did Google target the same consumers as iPhone, it also aimed to win the
hearts and minds of mobile application developers. On the basis of market
share and the number of available apps, Android is a success.

6 | Page

Her statement suggests that Android platform is a success because of its

greater market share and the number of available applications versus its rival
mobile operating system, thus making it the most viable medium to deliver the
researchers proposed application to the masses.
According to the research of Britton and Tesser entitled Effects of timemanagement practices on college grades on the Journal of Educational
Psychology published on September 1991. A prospective study tested the
hypothesis that college grade point average (GPA) would be predicted by timemanagement practices. 90 college students completed a time-management
questionnaire in 1983; their high school Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores
were obtained from college records. Principal-components analysis of the 35item time-management instrument revealed 3 components. In 1987, each
student's cumulative GPA was obtained from college records. Regression
analyses showed that 2 time-management components were significant
predictors of cumulative GPA (R2=.21) and accounted for more variance
than did SAT scores (increment in R2=.05). It is concluded that timemanagement practices may influence college achievement. (PsycINFO
Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
These insights of students that keep track of their schedule has higher
GPA than those who dont strengthen the idea of the researcher that keeping

7 | Page

track of your schedule can be beneficial in improving your academic

performance.
According to Joel D. Pinaroc, most Filipinos prefer the Android operating
system when it comes to smartphones. That in fact, about 91 percent (or nine
out of 10) smartphones sold in the Philippines run on Android, according to a
survey by research firm GfK. According to GfK, the Philippines has the highest
Android penetration rate in the six countries in the Southeast Asian region, the
survey said. He said that the countrys 91 percent rating is ahead of Malaysia,
with a close to 83 percent rate, and Singapore, which is third, at 81 percent. On
average, more than 70 percent of smartphones across the region are now
powered by Android. He states that the trend is region wide, with each country
continuing to post growth when it comes to Android. This in turn spurred brisk
sales of gadgets powered by this OS. As most users would know, the Android
OS was developed by Android, which was later on bought by search giant
Google. One of the main selling points of Android is that it is flexible and based
on an open-source standard that allows software developers to create
applications. It seems the Filipino consumer is very well aware that there is a
wide variety of gadgets to suit everyone's personal preferences and individuals
budgets. It might be a bit of a stretch, but aside from being the texting capital of
the world, it seems the Philippines is on its way of becoming an Android country
said by Pinaroc.

8 | Page

His statement of about how the Filipinos prefer the android operating
system gives the researchers an evidence that the preferred operating system
of the proposed application is much popular than the other mobile operating
system.

Review of Related Studies

In this section, the researchers listed mobile applications, websites and
programs that are similar to the proposed application. This will give an overview
over the similarities and differences between the application being proposed
and other applications.
The DayViewer was created as an easy to use online calendar and
planner for busy people to see what they had coming up in the day. The
founder and Chief Executive Officer Chet Karstan wanted to make it easier for
professionals and businesses to plan their time and tasks with ease, and keep
things organized in a workspace where everything was together. According to
him, a simple reminder and a good view of your day on a calendar, list or
timeline gives you enough of an impetus to get things done. He wanted to build
an application which has the right blend of productivity tools to make a positive
impact on personal and business time & task management. The similarities are
both application manages the schedule of the user, but their difference is that

9 | Page

the proposed application will be mobile based compared to the day viewer that
is web based.
CSoftLab is an independent software developing company founded in
2000. The specialization of the company is creating utilities for managing a
personal information. Tools by CSoftLab help users to organize their daily work
and information more efficiently. In December, 2000 CSoftLab started activity in
the world-wide market, when releasing the C-Organizer, a personal information
manager. C-Organizer Professional edition remains the company's best-selling
title since the product launch in 2001. Originally developed in 2001, the
program has since enjoyed a wide following and support from both regular folks
and the media. C-Organizer Professional has been favorably reviewed in the
electronic version of very reputable PC Magazine and received dozens of
awards. The C-Organizer is for personal computers but the functionality is
somehow similar to the proposed system.
Google Calendar is a time-management web and mobile application
created by Google. It became available on April 13, 2006, and exited the beta
stage in July 2009. Users are required to have a Google Account in order to
use Google Calendar; however the mobile application supports synchronizing
with third party calendar services. Like the proposed application Google
calendar is also available in android but their difference is that Google calendar

10 | P a g e

is simply a calendar and does not organize when the event is happening (e.g.
know who already arrived, messaging) why the proposed application can.
Christopher Masser develop an android-based calendar called ToDo
Calendar Planner. It uses a powerful task list that supports batch operations. It
also has a fully scrollable calendar with daily, weekly, monthly and agenda view
and it can attach a Google map on the event. While the ToDo Calendar Planner
also boasts an android compatibility and also has similar features to the
proposed application, their difference is that the ToDo Calendar Planner lacks
the socialization that the proposed application has.
Jorte is a Japanese based application designed for smart phones and
tablets that combines the ease of use of a paper organizer with the handiness
of a portable device. Jorte has been developed after a detailed study of paper
organizers. As one day can be used any number of ways, the makers have
designed their Application keeping in mind ease of use. Jorte is also an
android-based application that has the functions of a normal calendar but unlike
the proposed application it doesnt have the messaging tools and the way to
organize the event.
New Calendar developed by KFSoftincludes most common calendar
functions, and let users manage their schedules easily. It can be use with
Google Calendar. It supports daily, weekly, monthly and yearly calendar
functions. It support public holiday for +30 regions. Voice reminders (TTS)

11 | P a g e

notify you the event with voice. You can also search the calendar. Lunar phase,
sunrise and sunset time are supported. Over 10 widgets are available, including
agenda and calendars, clock, world cities time, and sticky note with voice
recording feature, counter, Todo list, etc. The New Calendar application also
features android compatibility but the difference is it also lacks the feature to
organize when the event is occurring but some functionality is similar to the
proposed application.
SolCalendar is a globally-recognized calendar application with free
stickers that has topped millions of downloads on Android. This visuallyengaging, powerful piece of application will guide users to live a passionate life,
by providing effective time & task management tools and Infotainment.
SolCalendar is well known for its beautiful design and intuitive functions, and it
has been introduced by major IT medias such as TNW, engaged, and addictive
tips as one of the best alternatives for Google Calendar. Like the other
application it also runs on android

but the difference with the proposed

application is that it doesnt have the means to communicate when the event is
occurring thus leading to long waiting time of arrival.
Teamup Calendar looks similar to a Google Calendar or Outlook.
However, Teamup works differently, because it is designed for groups. Setting
up a Teamup Calendar starts with what is important for the group to stay
organized and keep everyone informed as determined by the calendar

12 | P a g e

administrator who represents the best interest of the group, followed by how
individual members of the group use the calendar for the benefits of the group.
It is built with simplicity. No user accounts are required. A calendar link is all
that is needed for anyone to use a Teamup Calendar. It is intuitive and easy to
use. This webpage based calendar does have the managerial capabilities of
the proposed application but their difference is their platforms.
Calendar + is a free, easy to use program scheduling calendar
application that helps managing calendar events and programs from your
Android device easier than ever. Calendar + automatically synchronizes with
your Google accounts and displays events, programs and plans with
customized views and options. Also, Calendar + provides you with the quick
add feature so users can add a new event or program easily on the go.
Calendar + similarly runs Android with proposed application but it lacks the
ability to organize the event when it is happening wherein the proposed
application, you can.
Acuity founder Gavin Zuchlinski found himself once upon a time in the
year 2006 or rather, thats where he found his dear mom, Kim, struggling with
her massage therapy business. Just as shed settle in to begin a session with a
client, the phone would ring, instantly birthing a pit in the bottom of her
stomach. Zuchlinski, an avid developer with a background in software
development, network security, and usability, decided there had to be a better

13 | P a g e

way. And so the very first beta version of Acuity Scheduling was born. Now,
small business owners like Kim, and big organizations and corporations alike,

technology takes care of it on your behalf, letting clients, customers, employees
and people worldwide book, cancel and even reschedule appointments and
schedule meetings with you automatically, without you having to lift a finger. Or
be on call 24/7. Or even open your inbox. Acuitys features are somehow like
the proposed application but their difference that Acuity is a website and the
proposed application is in Android.
Appointy is a simple, functional and powerful scheduling software
designed to help you grow and manage your business. Appointy allows you to
accept appointments online, send automated email/ sms reminders, integrate
with social media and Google Calendar, accept online prepayments, create gift
cards, deals and much much more. No matter what the size of your business,

Statement of the Problem

The statement of the problems aims to introduce the general and the
specific problems that the researcher tries to find answer for the Online
scheduling application.

14 | P a g e

Title of the Study: SCHEDULINK

Online Scheduling Mobile Application on Android
General Problem: How the researchers will help and provide the
community an effective scheduling application to minimize and fix the problem
about having an inconvenient scheduler in either their application based or
manual type of scheduling.
Specific Problems:
1.

How will the researchers develop a scheduling application that will

automatically arrange the time of the user for different events?

2. How will the researchers manage redundancy and conflicts on the users
schedule?
3. How will the researchers fasten the process of sending appointments
through the proposed application?
4. How will the researchers develop an android application that can
accurately determine the location of the participant in an event the user have
organized?
5. How will the researchers develop an android application that can provide
information of the attendance of the scheduled task?

Hypothesis of the Study

Ha. There is a significant difference between the proposed Online
Scheduling Mobile Application in Android and the other existing application. The
application will introduce a new feature where you can organize the current

15 | P a g e

task via attendance, messaging and location. It is basically a social media that
is based on tasks and calendar events. This does not exist on current similar
applications.
Conceptual Framework of the Study
The conceptual Framework of the Study suggests the inputs, processes

Mobile Application
The evaluation of existing similar application or websites gives the
researcher an overview about the existing application readily available in the
market. This will give the researchers an idea about the features that they lack
and put it in the proposed application giving it an edge in the competition.
Interviewing the respondents also gives the researcher ideas about what the
potential users need to an application.
The knowledge requirements cover all the necessary information in
order for the researchers to have an abstract idea on how to develop to
proposed application. The software requirements cover all the software needed
to develop the proposed application. And as for the hardware requirements
these pertains to the necessary equipment or gadgets needed for the
development of proposed application.
The program design describes the process where the flow and structure of
the program materializes. The development stage is where the coding of the
program starts. The evaluation stage is where the first prototype of the program
will be evaluated and decided whether it is acceptable or not. When it is not
acceptable it will go through revisions until it became better than previous
versions.

17 | P a g e

All these activities are done consecutively and through further refinement
in the revision part the proposed Android-Based Online Scheduling Mobile
Application will become acceptable.

Significance of the Study

This section describes what the study will contribute to the current
technologies.
Respondents. The proposed study will help the respondents by giving
their feedbacks and opinions of the application. This will in turn become a
valuable data needed to improve the usability and the user friendliness of the
application. This makes the application much easier to use and when they use
the application it will fit all their wants.
We also classified the respondents according to their lifestyle:
Young Users (13 years old to 17 years old). This study will help them on
their studies and extra-curricular activities. This particular age group is the most
active of all and really need to keep a track of their schedules.
Middle Users (18 years old to 54 years old). The general population of
this particular age group are part of the work force. This study will help them to
keep tracks of their meetings and schedules on their work.
Old Users (54 years old above). This age groups generally compose of
old people that have very short term memories. The study will help them to

18 | P a g e

remember certain memos that they needed to know that are vital to their health
or social being e.g. taking medicines, birthdays, anniversaries.
These three types of respondents differ from each other due to their
different needs in their schedule that the proposed application must fulfill.

Scope and Limitations

Scope
The proposed Android-Based Online Scheduling Mobile Application will
primarily focus on the management of the users schedule. It will cover the daily
tasks of the user and arrange it according to the preferences set by the users. It
will also cover the management of the users approved friend list by setting who
can send a request that can alter the user schedule. The management when
the event is also tackled on the scope of the proposed system. Events will be
organized by the proposed application by providing messaging platform to the
attending persons, their location and their status of arrival.
The proposed application will be having the following features:
o
o
o
o

Management of the users schedule

Ability to send/receive an appointment to your approved friend list
Provide a messaging platform
Organize the event made by the user by providing attendance for time

management (if necessary), location of the event and participants by means of

Google map for a fast and safe travel to the place of the event, required things
to bring for the effectiveness of the participant and notes included in the event
for security purposes.

19 | P a g e

Limitations
The proposed application will be develop primarily for android users.
Because of this the application will not be compatible to the other mobile
platforms.
The application is design only for mobile phones which means Personal
Computers and other gadgets are not supported.
Since the proposed application is design to be an online system. It needs
internet connectivity to fully utilize all its features.

Definition of Terms
Operating System it acts as the intermediary medium where the
hardware and the user connect. It is system software that manages computer
hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer
programs.

The operating system acts as a translator for the computer to

understand user inputs. All gadgets including mobile phones and personal
computers have operating systems.

Android it is a kind of operating system for mobile phones developed

by Google for mobile phones. It is based on the Linux kernel and designed
primarily for touch screen mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.

20 | P a g e

Android's user interface is mainly based on direct manipulation, using touch

gestures that loosely correspond to real-world actions, such as swiping, tapping
and pinching, to manipulate on-screen objects, along with a virtual keyboard for
text input.
Platform - is any hardware or software used to host an application or
service. An application platform, for example, consists of hardware, an
operating system and coordinating programs that use the instruction set for a
particular processor or microprocessor. In this case, the platform creates a
foundation that ensures object code will execute successfully. Retrieve from
http://searchservervirtualization.techtarget.com/definition/platform
iOS / iPhone Operating Sytem - is a mobile operating system created
and developed by Apple Inc. and distributed exclusively for Apple hardware. It
is the operating system that presently powers many of the company's mobile
devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It is the second most
popular mobile operating system in the world by sales after Android.

Android Application - is a software application running on the Android

platform. Because the Android platform is built for mobile devices, a typical

21 | P a g e

Android app is designed for a smart phone or a tablet PC running on the

Android Operating System.
Event - An event can be described as a public assembly for the purpose
of celebration, education, marketing or reunion. Events can be classified on the
basis of their size, type and context.
Online Scheduling - Online scheduling software is a tool that can be
integrated into any website, which allows clients to make appointments over the
internet with their consultant, sales representative or customer service agent
with just a few clicks.
Appointment - it is an agreement to meet with someone at a particular
time.

CHAPTER 2
METHODOLOGY

22 | P a g e

In this chapter, the researchers will describe the methods used in the
research study. It will also be discussed here the involved processes in order to
provide solution to the general problem of this study.
Essentially, this chapter will discuss the type of Research Design that is
used by the researchers, the end user of the application or the respondents and
the use of Sampling Procedures in choosing them, Data Gathering instruments
and Validation, Data Gathering procedures and Statistical Analysis of Data.

Research Design
The research design determines the way on how to effectively address
the problem of the study. It refers to the chosen strategy to be implemented on
the different parts of the study in a way that is systematic and logical ensuring
effective solutions to the problems.
Survey Research Design. The researchers choose the survey research
design because of its effectiveness when used particularly in this study. In
survey research design, the researcher selects a sample of respondents from a
population and administers a standardized questionnaire to them.
The survey research design is the most effective way for assessing
opinions and trends. These statements are very important for the development

of this study because it basically relays the needs and the wants of the potential
users of the proposed application thus improving the user experience when the

23 | P a g e

application is complete. Judging opinions with carefully design surveys can

dramatically change the strategies on how the researcher will design the
feature and capabilities of the proposed application ensuring the creation of an
acceptable study result.
Action Research Design. The researchers choose the action research
design in the programming because it refers to a wide variety of evaluative,
investigative, and analytical research methods designed to diagnose problems
or weaknesseswhether organizational, academic, or instructionaland help
the researchers develop practical solutions to address them quickly and
efficiently.

Respondents
The respondents will be the end users of the proposed application. They
will also be the target to answer survey questions about the system and the
interviewee to validate the acquired answers are as follows.
Young Users (13 years old to 17 years old). Their role for the study is to
give the researchers an insight on how youth will benefit from the proposed
study. This particular age group primarily composes of students and youths.

They will give the researchers their opinion on what specific features they need
as a person who is studying.

24 | P a g e

Middle Users (18 years old to 54 years old). Their role for the study is to
give the researchers an insight on how the working class will benefit from the
proposed study. This particular age group primarily composes of individuals
who are currently working. They will provide knowledge to the researchers
about their opinion for a scheduling application and how will they benefit from it.
Old Users (55 years old above). Their role for the study is to give the
researchers an insight on how the elderly will benefit from the proposed study.
This particular age group primarily composes of individuals who are old. They
will give their opinions to the researchers about a scheduling application
making the proposed application useful to the elderly.

Research Locale
Research locale is a term that refers to a specified area and/or subject
that is being studied in a research project. The word locale simply means a
place or area; you use the word when you are talking about events or actions
connected to the place. So a research locale is simply the place where
research takes place.
Since the proposed application is generic, it has no locale. The proposed
application can be used by anyone.

Sampling Procedure

25 | P a g e

Sampling is selecting a group; a subgroup from a much larger population

that is similar in its trait distribution of the larger population. Findings made from
studying the group can then be generalized to the larger population.
Purposive sampling is a non-probability sampling method and it occurs
when elements selected for the sample are chosen by the judgment of the
researcher. Researchers often believe that they can obtain a representative
sample by using a sound judgment, which will result in saving time and money.
According to Google there are over a billion of active android users, but
at the 2015 Nexus event they revealed a more specific value of 1.4 billion. The
researchers used this amount as the total population. By using Survey Monkey
with a margin of error of 5% the researchers came up with the value of 385 as
the total sampling size.

Figure 2.1 Getting the sample size using Survey Monkey

26 | P a g e

The researchers also divided the sampling size in relation to the

percentage of smart phone users per age group. According to Kate Dreyers
article on ComScore website, nearly half (48.7%) of smartphone owners in the
U.S. were between the ages of 25 and 44, with those in the 25-34 year old
demographic making up the largest segment of the smartphone population
representing 27.2% of owners while younger users between the ages of 13 and
24 represented nearly one fourth of all smartphone owners (23.8%).
The researchers then compressed the age groups into three, retaining
their percentages and divided them the sample size accordingly.

Data Gathering Instruments

In this section, all the data gathering methods used by the researchers are
listed. The content every forms is based on methodologies used in the research
study to make data gathering methods reliable. First the researchers asked the
respondents if they are using any means of tracking their schedule. The idea
behind this is to give the researchers a background on the respondent. If they
said yes, we will evaluate if they are satisfied with the features of the app they
are using. This will give the researcher an insight on what features that are
liked by the respondents and what are not. The interview questions will be

29 | P a g e

classified by the age groups. The respondents are asked depending on their
activities, giving the researcher more information.

Validation of Instruments
Survey forms and questionnaires are abstracted by the adviser and
reconciled by the researcher, provided with the advisers feedback, given
advice and guidelines.

Data Gathering Procedure

Observation, Interviews and Surveys were used by the researchers in
conducting the data gathering procedure.
Survey. Survey is most commonly used method in social sciences,
management, marketing and psychology to some extent. Questionnaires are
the most commonly used method in survey. The researchers formulated series
of questions that are a mix of open ended and close ended question and
distributed them in accordance in the number of sample age groups to get
more information about the preferences of the potential users of the proposed
application.
Interview. The researchers conducted the interview in accordance to the
survey questions. Again the researchers formulated specific questions but only
this time in accordance to the age groups. The researchers delivered the

30 | P a g e

question in a way the interviewee will comprehend thoroughly the thought in

each question to extract reliable information.
Observations. The researchers observed the existing apps that are
available on any platform, Personal Computer based, iOS based, AndroidBased and web based. To know what features that are lacking. This information
can be used in designing the app capabilities making it a superior scheduling
tracking application.

Statistical Analysis of Data

Weighted Mean is a kind of average where the different items in the
population have different weights. Instead of each data point contributing
equally to the final mean, some data points contribute more weight than
others. If all the weights are equal, then the weighted mean equals the
arithmetic mean (the regular average youre used to). Weighted means are
very common in statistics, especially when studying populations.

31 | P a g e

Otherwise, multiply each weight w by its matching value x, sum that all
up, and divide by the sum of weights:

Weighted

Mean = wx
w

Where:
x is the repeating value
w is the number of occurrences of x(weight)
This formula serves as the basis of the researchers in quantifying the
responses of the respondents to the questions.

Evaluation Criteria
The researchers used the FURPS+ Model is commonly used to identify
the most important feature of a product in measurable terms. It can help the
researchers to determine on what to prioritize to attain maximized users
satisfaction. The FURPS+ is an acronym which is stands for Functionality,
Usability, Reliability, Performance and Supportability.

Functionality The functions, capabilities and the features set on the

application. This include the overall security of the system

32 | P a g e

Usability It is the effectiveness of the product from the standpoint of the

person who will use it. The overall look and aesthetic of the application

and if the documentation is accurate and complete.

Reliability It is the maximum acceptable system downtime, if failure of
the system is predictable and how will it recover. It is also about the

accuracy the application.

Performance It is the speed of the application, maximum response

time, memory consumption and the efficiency of available resources.

Supportability It answers to the question if the application is testable,
extensible, serviceable, installable, and configurable. It basically pertains
to the maintainability of the application.

CHAPTER 3
SURVEY RESULTS
33 | P a g e

In this chapter, the results gained by the conducted surveys done by the
researchers will be shown in graphs, provided for every questions included in
the survey. The researchers then elaborate how they will interpret their findings
about the survey.
By means of purposive sampling we only pick respondents by proper
judgment based on their attire and sound. We conduct the survey through age
divisions ranging from 13 17 years old as the young ones or students, 18 54
years old as the middle age ones like senior students and employees, and 55
years old and above or the elderlies. The researchers conducted the survey as
many as they can despite being picky. As discussed in chapter 1, Interviewing
the respondents also gives the researcher ideas about what the potential users
need to an application.

34 | P a g e

Figure

Figure 3.1 Do you keep track of your day to day activities?

As seen in figure 3.1 above, 60% of the respondents always track their
daily activities, thus the proposed system as discussed in chapter 1 It will
improve the convenience of the students on keeping a daily schedule, from
major exams, due projects and quizzes , This study will help them to keep
tracks of their meetings and schedules on their work and The study will help
them to remember certain memos that they needed to know that are vital to
their health or social being e.g. taking medicines, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
The proposed application will be efficient to 99% of the total respondents.

35 | P a g e

Figure 3.2 Do you plan an event or occasion of any kind?

Figure
3.2

The purposed of this question is to prove the effectiveness of the

applications feature which is mentioned in chapter 1 Organize the event
through attendance, location of the users and notes for the event. This
features will make the application help 57% of the respondents that plan events
or occasion. Although it is merely near to half the total respondents who always
plan events the next 30% respondents that only sometimes plan events takes
part of the role, that the proposed application will still be effective to majority of
the users.

36 | P a g e

Figure

Figure 3.3 How would you described your average day to day activities?

As the proposed application main feature is Management of the users

schedule that is included in chapter 1, 62% of the total respondents are always
busy. Thus, the researchers then proved that the proposed application will be a
big help and only 2% of them that never occupied their daily activities, Also in
the scope of the proposed application you will find that It will cover the daily
tasks of the user and arrange it according to the preferences set by the users.
this leads to the effectiveness of the application to 98% of the people who are
busy in their daily life.

Figure
3.4

Figure 3.4 How do you usually organize your schedule or plan an event?

In the figure above, only 16% are using tablet/smartphones in organizing

schedule. And the rest of the respondents still rely on using paper notes in their
schedules causing more effort which is one of the specific problem of the
proposal, As mentioned in the introduction of our proposed system With the
fast paced growing sales and market value of smart phones, people are using
them religiously proving the fact that despite most of the respondents uses
smartphones still 84% of them uses paper notes in organizing schedule this
means that other existing scheduling applications are not known to the
community.

38 | P a g e

Figure
3.5

Figure 3.5 Do you experience inconvenience when you organize your

schedule or planning an event manually?

Based on figure 3.5 only 1 out of 4 of the respondents doesnt

experience inconvenience in planning event or schedule manually this leads to
our proposed application specific problem mentioned in chapter 1 How will the
researcher develop a scheduling application that will automatically arrange the
schedule of the user.

39 | P a g e

Figure

Figure 3.6 Do you use any mobile application in planning an event or

organizing your schedule?

In figure 3.4 only 16% uses tablet or smartphones in organizing their

schedule yet in the figure shown above 74% uses other scheduler application,
thus despite using scheduling application they still used paper notes for some
features they couldnt do in their particular mobile application.

40 | P a g e

Figure

Figure 3.7 what is your preferred operating system in your mobile?

Most of the respondents uses android as their mobile operating system

and only a few in iOS and Windows OS, and also Android powers hundreds of
millions of mobile devices in more than 190 countries around the world. It's the
largest installed base of any mobile platform and growing fast every day
mentioned in our research in our introduction of chapter 1 and according to
Margaret Buttler of Inovaspire it also aimed to win the hearts and minds of
mobile application developers. On the basis of market share and the number of
available apps, Android is a success also discussed in chapter 1.

Figure
3.8

41 | P a g e

Figure 3.8 Are you willing to try a new mobile application in planning
an event or organizing your schedule?

Based on figure 3.8 89% of the respondents are not satisfied on what
they have used scheduling application, it means that there are a lot of features
to improve on their system that our proposed application will be providing in the
mere future. The researcher will test other related scheduling application to
determine further the improvements needed for the effectiveness of the
proposed application.

Figure
3.9

42 | P a g e

Figure 3.9 Which of the following features you think is the most
important in a mobile scheduler and event planner application?

Based on figure 3.9, 66% wanted a good looking user interface, it just
show that most of the respondents wanted attraction to their eyes when it
comes to their schedules and somehow the researcher needs to think of a
design that will fit to every users. Only 5% wanted it secured and user-friendly,
this shows that the scheduling application doesnt intend to include many
security questions but doesnt mean that the researchers will not make the
proposed system secured. The main purposed of this question as mention in
chapter 1 Interviewing the respondents also gives the researcher ideas about
what the potential users need to an application.

Generalization
The survey results will probably lead to the imagination of the
expected design of the proposed system. As the opinions of the respondents
deal a big help in giving us an insight on how will our system may look like. As
expected, most of the respondents weve conducted survey to, always keep
track of their schedules every day.
