Topic: The Bible is true and Gods word
Sub-Topic: Does the Bible contain errors, contradictions, or discrepancies?
Position: Against

Debate Outline
Point 1: The Bible has major differences between the Old and the New Testament.
Main Argument: God as a person and his law are redefined and completely changed in
the New Testament, proving the Bibles account of God and his law in the Old Testament to be
Contradictory to his law in the New Testament.
1. To be accepted into Gods kingdom god calls us to follow the Ten Commandments
given to us by Him in the Old Testament. Exodus 20: 1-17 gives a clear statements of
the commandments and according to them, the direct word of God revealed to Moses,
what are and are not to do in order to maintain our purity and be accepted by God. In
the New Testament it is asked to Jesus comes as a representation of God, and his
teachings go against the strict following of the Ten Commandments. Jesus teaches
that all you have to do to get into heaven is accept Jesus as your lord (Romans 3:2326).
2. There is a big difference between who the Old Testament describes God as being
from the New Testaments description of God. In the Old Testament, God is described
as, notaman,thatheshouldlie,norasonofman,thatheshouldchangehismind.

3. Form the Old Testament to the New Testament; the value of the Sabbath day has
changed. A day that was set apart for rest, in honor of Gods day of rest after creating
the world. In the New Testament, we see God himself, in the form of Jesus, breaking
his own law. This is shown in Matthew 12:1-3 when Jesus disobeys the law, ironically
placed by Him, by doing work. This is a major discrepancy. God places His law and
then breaks it.
Explanation: The clear existence of differences in Gods character, Law, and actions
proves the existence of contradictions and discrepancies within the Bible. The Bible
having contradictions and discrepancies can be analyzed as it lacking in absolute truth.
Point 2: The Genealogy and description of the messiah do not line up with Jesus persona
or actions.
1. Prophecies of the messiah state that he will come directly from the bloodline
of David; this is mentioned in John 7:42. The bible gives two separate
accounts of Jesus genealogy, one in the book of Matthew and the other in
Luke. If you analyze the Genealogies found in Matthew 1:1-16 and in Luke
3:23-37 side by side, you see that the genealogies are clearly different than
what the prophecy stated. Jesus is connected to David by Joseph, who is not

his father according to the Bible, for he never conceived Jesus, thus Jesus is
not from the bloodline of David, and hence cannot be consider the messiah.
2. Prophecies of the messiah described him as a powerful person. This
description is totally opposite to the person we see Jesus as when he arrives.
Jesus instead of coming in as a king or ruler came in as a servant. In one
instance, Jesus even made an entrance on a donkey (John 12).
3. Jesus defies the earlier belief of God being one. In the New Testament, it is
stated that God is all three in one: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy
Spirit. The trinity is one of the most contradictory things in the Bible. Nothing
can be three and one at the same time. Jesus also manages to defy math by
being both 100% human and 100% man. Jesus existence contradicts math.
Explanation: Jesus existence is contradictory to math. Jesus does not fulfill the
prophecies said of the messiah, thus he is not the messiah and not the Son of God.
This means that the majority of the New Testament, which is based on Jesus life
and teachings, is untrue.
