A beam has a hollow circular cross section 40mm outer diameter and 30 mm inner
diameter. It is made from metal with modulus of elasticity205 Gpa. The maximum (8)
tensile stress in the beam should not exceed 350 Mpa. Calculate (i) The maximum
bending moment (ii) the radius of curvature.

The allowable working stress either in compression or tension is 150Mpa. If the cross
section is to be rectangular determine the dimensions if height is to be twice as great
