ROLE DESCRIPTION
The International Admissions Officer is expected to deliver exceptional performance in
converting enquiries to enrolled international students, and to provide advice and support to
international students, representatives (agents) and pathway providers on application and
admission processes.
The International Admissions Management team are higher education professionals that are
focused on the processes, rules and activities relating to international student applications
into University of Newcastle (UON) programs, from the point at which an enquiry is made by
a potential international student through to acceptance of an offer. The teams priorities are
to:

enhance student attraction, conversion and retention;


expand, extend and enhance student experience and success initiatives (contributing to
UONs value proposition and graduate identity);
contribute to quality student experience at all levels of study;
identify, develop and support institutional partnerships; and
collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

OVERVIEW OF UNIT/SCHOOL AND POSITION CONTEXT


This role is a position within UON Global, a unit located in the International and Advancement
Division.
Under NeW Futures [2016-2025], the capability of the Universitys global operation is critical
in delivering the GPP and enabling the achievement of the following five plans: Research and
Innovation; Education, Global Reputation, Engaged Workforce; and Financial Sustainability;
in collaboration with all faculties and divisions, in collegiality and with competence. The core
remit of UON Global is enabling and achieving designated KPIs in a sustainable and strategic
manner, in partnership with the academic and professional core of the University.

Develop and coordinate the distribution of
correspondence for qualified applicants including
confirmation of enrolment, tuition fees and health
cover in accordance with University policy and
relevant legislation.
Collate, review and maintain confidential,
sensitive and accurate records of international
student enquiries and applications.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent


combination of relevant international admissions experience and/or education/training.
Experience working with international students, including an understanding of other
cultures and ability to communicate in a cross-cultural working environment.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint, internet,
and experience in using complex corporate systems such as student/financial
administration databases.

Demonstrated high level interpersonal, time management, organisational, written and


verbal communication skills including demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity.

Capacity to achieve demanding targets


Ability to embrace change in response to new initiatives, strategic direction or external
requirements.
Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the
areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace
culture.

CONDITIONS & BENEFITS


HEW Level 5 - $63,943 to $74,175 plus contributory superannuation with Unisuper, attracting a
generous employer contribution of 17%.
