1. Prerequisites
Unless otherwise specified, all updates, editions, and Service Packs (SPs) for a listed Windows version are
supported, e.g. Windows 7 = Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate editions, all SPs. As
Microsoft releases new Service Packs for Windows, these requirements may need to be re-evaluated--the
newest Service Pack may require an updated version of the Symantec Product.

Pentium 4 or equivalent recommended)
64-bit processor for Windows: 2-GHz Pentium 4 with x86-64 support or equivalent

2 Installation over Internet
2.1 From Internet Explorer, browse to
http://alms.ytleducation.com.my/Altiris/NS/Agent/SymantecAgent.html
2.2 Click on Symantec Management Agent to download and save the installation file to your computer.

2.4 If you have User Access Control (UAC) enabled (for Windows Vista and Windows 7), click on Yes to allow
the installation.

2.7 Once installed, you will see the Symantec Management Agent icon on the Windows taskbar.

2.8 Symantec Endpoint Protection installation package will be delivered to your computer over the internet.
2.9 Once the package is delivered, the Symantec Endpoint Protection installation will begin. The installation
will detect for other Anti-Virus programs (such as AVG 2011) installed on your computer, and will
perform un-installation of such programs in the background. This will typically take about 5 to 30
minutes for the un-installation.
Note: Do NOT stop the un-installation process of the Anti-Virus program, as this will cause an
interruption to the setup process.
2.10 Once the current Anti-Virus program is un-installed, the Symantec Endpoint Protection installation
will begin installation in silent mode.

2.12 The Symantec Endpoint Protection icon will appears on the Windows taskbar icon after installation is
completed. You can reboot your computer to complete the installation.

2.14 After your computer is restarted, you will see the Symantec Endpoint Protection icon on the
Windows taskbar.

2.15 Double-click on the icon and you will see that Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed successfully
and your computer is protected.

3. Installation from CD
3.1 Check to make sure that you have the installation CD with below content
3.2 If the target is running Windows XP operating system, check to ensure that it is running windows XP
service pack (SP) 2 and above. Upgrade the target computer to Windows XP service pack 2 or above
before proceeding with endpoint installation using the provided CD or download the service pack from
below link. If you install from CD, the installer for service pack can be found in Windows XP SP2 folder.

3.3 Insert the installation CD to your computer.
NOTE: It is important to determine your computer is on which version before you proceed, otherwise
installation process will fail.
For Windows 32bit System, browse to Windows-32bit folder
For Windows 64bit System, browse to Windows-64bit folder
3.5 If UAC (User Account Control) is not disabled on your computer, you will see the prompt as below. Click
Yes to continue with the installation.

3.8 The installation will detect for other Anti-Virus programs (such as AVG 2011) installed on your computer,

3.11 The Symantec Endpoint Protection icon will appears on the Windows taskbar icon after installation is
completed. You can reboot your computer to complete the installation.
Note: Check to ensure that the previous Anti-Virus
Anti Virus program such as Kaspersky or AVG is successfully
uninstalled. If previous Anti-Virus
Virus program is not successfully uninstalled, refer to step 3.14 to
uninstall it.

3.15 If the previous Antivirus program is not successfully uninstalled by Symantec, proceed to manually
uninstall it with below procedures. The removal tools are located in KAV-AVG uninstaller folder.

by the remover tool and click Remove button to proceed to uninstall Kaspersky Antivirus.

4. Verify a successful installation
4.1 To ensure a successful installation, check to make sure that both Symantec Management Agent and
Symantec Endpoint Protection icons are displayed in Windows task bar.
4.2 To check that SEP is functioning properly after installation, ensure that a green dot appears on SEP icon
when the computer is connected to Internet.
To verify connectivity to SEP server, click on Open Symantec Endpoint Protection, then go to click on
Help button on SEP GUI, select Troubleshooting. In the troubleshooting window, the client should
connect to server SEPM.YTLEDUCATION.COM.MY and the connection status should show Connected as
displayed by below screenshots.

4.3 To check that Altiris agent is functioning properly after installation, right click on the Symantec
Management Agent icon in the task bar, then click Symantec Management Agent Settings.
A functioning Symantec Management Agent should be able to connect to Altiris server with the
hostname ALMS.YTLEDUCATION.COM.MY and the Computer ID should also be assigned by the Altiris
Server upon successful connection to the server.

5. Troubleshooting
4.1 How to determine whether the client is connected and protected
The client uses a notification area icon to indicate whether the client is online or offline and whether the
client computer is adequately protected. You can right-click this icon to display frequently used commands.
The icon is located in the lower-right hand corner of the client computer desktop.

The client runs with no problems. It is either offline or unmanaged. Unmanaged clients are
not connected to a management server. The icon is a plain yellow shield.
The client runs with no problems. It is connected to and communicates with the server. All
components of the security policy protect the computer. The icon is a yellow shield with a
green dot.
The client has a minor problem. For example, the virus definitions may be out of date. The
icon is a yellow shield and a light yellow dot that contains a black exclamation mark.
The client does not run, has a major problem, or has at least one protection technology
disabled. For example, Network Threat Protection may be disabled. The icon is a yellow
shield with a white dot outlined in red and a red line across the dot.
4.3 Using the ping command to test the connectivity to the management server
You can try to ping the management server from the client computer to test connectivity. To use the ping
command to test the connectivity to the management server
If the ping command does not return the correct address, verify the DNS service for the client and check its
routing path.

4.4 Disable or Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) in Control Panel
Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Account.

4.5 For installation over internet, what happens if UAC (User Account Control) is not disabled?
It is recommended to disable UAC on the clients computer.
If UAC is not disabled, the user will be prompted with below screen, choose Yes to start the
download.

4.6 The installation did not remove my current Anti-Virus software. What can I do?
The Symantec installer is able to un-install most of the well-known Anti-Virus software available in the
market, but there are some Anti-Virus removal which are not supported. It is recommended to use the
manual un-installation method provided by your current Anti-Virus vendor.
Currently, the following Anti-Virus list is supported for un-installation.
