EVALUATION
Proficiency areas include chords, chord progressions, note reading, melodic playing, and
scales. Proficiency due dates will be announced in class, performed in class and graded
pass/fail. Each student will get two chances to pass each proficiency. The number of
passed proficiencies will determine this portion of your grade.
The final number of proficiencies and the grading scale is subject to change through the
course of the semester. You will be notified in advance of any such changes.
Proficiency scores, mid term exam, final exam, assignments and
attendance will determine your final grade. (Note: The final exam will be held on the
last day of class, Thursday, December 6th).
ROOM ETTIQUETTE/EXPECTATIONS
A room full of 20 enthusiastic guitar students can get very noisy very quickly. Please
refrain from playing your instruments while the instructor is talking.
*Students should expect to spend one hour of practice outside of class in preparation
for each class period. Playing an instrument requires the development of muscle memory
and dexterity, and the only way to accomplish this is through repetition of exercises. The
more you practice, the more you will get out of this class.
ATTENDANCE
This is a hands-on class in which your skill development is dependent on your class
participation. Students are required to bring their instrument, textbook, paper, and pencil
to every class meeting. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence.
Each student is allowed one unexcused absences per semester. Each subsequent absence
will lower the students final grade by half of a letter. Students are responsible for any
missed material. Any missed work/exams/proficiencies due to an unexcused absence will
be given a zero for a grade. Missed work/exams/proficiencies due to an excused absence
can be made up only by the end of the next class meeting.
Please arrive on time for class, habitual tardiness will affect your attendance grade.
