YDM 1R CLASS B-B DIESEL HYDRAULIC LOCOMOTIVES
-:0;Twenty YDM1 Class M.G. Diesel Hydraulic Locomotives were built and supplied during 1955-56 by M/s. North
British Locomotive Company; U.K.
This class of locomotives are equipped with 12 cylinders V Paxman Diesel Engine, Voith L-36 3-Convertor
hydraulic transmission, cardan shafts and final drives. These locomotives are successively repowerpacked with
Chitranjan Locomotive works built 6 cylinders in line Mak diesel engine, replacing the old Paxman engine. The
existing Voith transmission and final drives, after necessary rebuilding/overhauling, have been retained. In Voith
transmission a new pair of Step-up gears with suitable gear ratio have been used to suit the lower rated speed of the
Mak engine. The repowerpacked locomotives have been classified as YDM 1R type to differentiate them from the
original locomotives.
The cooling system (Behr) with thermostatic fan control has been employed replacing the older equipment, Matching
with the Map engine, indigenous ELGI make Compressor and SLM Exhauster have been used replacing the Broomwade
Compressor and WH Exhauster.
