Does anyone know where I can get a transcription of Dorsey's solo? I haven't been able to find it on the internet.

The original "stock" came with two solo trombone parts: one in D (as Graham has written down and as Dorsey played it)
and one in Bb (basically down a third).
Gordon Cherry issued a version of IGSOY in Bb for small combo that I play with my Dixieland Band and it is a lot less
tiring to play.
I remember a transcription in a Fake Book in Eb, a whole step above the Dorsey version. Now that would be tiring!

When I learned to play IGSOY while playing for Bobby Branca's Swing Band, I played it in 'C'.
I felt It should be played in 'D' a la Dorsey, so I worked on it and finally could just about make it through in 'D'.
I have a record of Jimmy Knepper playing a up-tempo version in 'F'.
I recently was pleased to find a record with the Teagarden version. He played it in 'B' b.

You can purchase a close approximation to the original TD arrangement from Lush Life Music for 22 . You can even print
out the first three pages (24 bars) of this arrangement without buying anything. From this you will see that the chords
referenced by Timothy are a bit simplistic for a big band arrangement.

There is no vocal in the original version but I have heard a fine Frank Sinatra version. Frank was of course one of TD's
vocalists for a while and they had many hits, most done in much the same style - trombone solo followed by vocal.

Note that as has already been mentioned, Dorsey made more than one recording of this tune - which transcription do you
want? Each one is a little different - key issues aside.

As far as versions, don't really care for what I was looking for. With this version in D, I can now transcribe in B-flat and
play it reasonably well. Now I can continue to play it in B, C, C# and D to continue to extend my upper register with
"sweetness." I love this tune as a benchmark for how my upper register is doing.
I am a returning trombonist after 33 years off and am having a blast (pardon the pun). This is a very nice benchmark to
help me measure progress - although, like most of the recommendations on high register, I continue using Remington's
"Security" exercises to extend the range - this piece is just plain fun to play.

Lately I've come to think playing this type of piece may be better for expanding your range than the typical range
exercises.
Among other reasons, you are forced to play "in time," and this has a couple of implications that make sense to me.
I could be wrong of course. But I'm practicing less than ever (due to time constraints and 3 hours of commuting a day),
and doing no high range exercises except for playing a couple of short pieces that have high notes every day, maybe five
minutes. And I'm hitting D's in the music, in tempo, in church <hee, hee> where before I could only hit notes in a
warmup exercise but not really use them.

Just remember: it starts on A, and plays Bb, D, F, and A.
