INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING

DRIVE MOTOR OUTPUT SHAFT/BEARINGS ASSEMBLY

WITH DRIVE MOTOR IN CHASSIS

Note: The photos for these instructions were

taken with a drive motor mounted in a
vise to simulate the drive motor still being
installed in the chassis.
1. Remove the outer chain tank cover, drive
chains and sprocket from the drive motor
output shaft.
2. Remove the motor seal cover snap ring.

3. The output shaft can now be pulled from the drive motor. Purchase or make
an adaptor for your slam hammer to be screwed into the end of the output
shaft 16 mm x 2 pitch thread. Remove the output shaft, bearings, and seal
cover.
Note: When the seal cover is being removed, the o-ring seal on OD of the cover
will fall into the snap ring groove on the motor housing and prevent the cover
from being removed easily. A slam hammer must be used to force the seal
cover past the snap ring groove.

4. When the output shaft and bearing assembly is removed from the drive
motor, you will find a spacer inside the hollow output shaft and a oil seal
which the shaft seals against in the motor housing. Save these parts for
they will be reused during reassembly.
5. Remove the shaft seal cover from the shaft. Removing and discard the
shaft seal and o-ring around the O.D. of the cover. Retain the cover to
be used in reassembly.

6. Prior to installing the new output shaft / bearings assembly, check to

ensure that the drive motor housing is not worn excessively in the area
where the inner and outer bearings make contact. The outer housing
bearing bore I.D. must be 3.8425 +/- 0.001 inches (97.668 +/- 0.0254
mm). The inner housing bearing bore I.D. must be 3.814 +/- 0.001
inches ( 96.876 +/- 0.0254 mm). Note: If either bore area exceeds
these dimensions, the complete drive motor must be replaced.
7. If the housing is OK, install the oil seal in the groove shown in the photo
with the convex side of the seal facing the output shaft. Use of grease
will help hold the seal in place when installing the output shaft.

8. Install the spacer into the output shaft / bearings assembly. Make
sure it is seated at the bottom of the splines. Use of a little grease
applied to the back side of the spacer will help hold it in place while
assembling the output shaft / bearing assembly into the drive motor
housing.

9. Insert the new output shaft / bearings assembly into the drive
motor housing. Rotate the shaft slightly during this process to
help align the splines of the intermediate shaft with the internal
splines of the output shaft. Due to the slight interference fit of
the bearings to the drive motor housing bore, you will not be able
to install the assembly fully into the drive motor.

To press the output shaft / bearings assembly fully into the drive motor housing,
10. Remove two of the drive motor mounting bolts from opposite corners of the
mounting flange.
11. Install two lengths of threaded rod through these holes as shown with a nut
and washer on the back side.
12. Install a bolt in the end of the output shaft to protect it during this process.
13. Assemble a standard bearing puller frame (as shown) and press the
assembly into place.
Note: To help align the bearings into the housing, you may have to slightly tap the splined shaft with a
leather or rubber hammer from side to side.

14. Install the new shaft seal and o-ring that comes in the service kit onto
the shaft seal cover.
15. Install the shaft seal cover in place on the shaft. Tap the cover until it
bottoms against the outer bearing.
16. Install the snap ring.
17. Reinstall and torque the two drive motor mounting bolts removed to
press in the output shaft assembly.
18. Install the motor drive sprocket, drive chains, park pin plate, etc., as per
the service manual instructions
