Group Project Brief

PLAN, DESIGN &DEVELOP A RESPONSIVE


WEBSITE
LECTURER: MR YONG FEN YU | COURSE: AHAA 2073 INTERACTIVE WEB DESIGN | INTAKE: M2DML

This is a project meant for a group of TWO to THREE students. You are to design and
develop a website for promoting the educational game / game that you proposed
for the collaboration project.
Your project should be planned and developed based on the theories and concepts
of UX design learned. The website must be responsive (able to be viewed in multiple
devices) and have at least 8 web pages.
This project is divided into:
Group Project 1 Plan and Design a Responsive Website
Group Project 2 - Develop and Implement the Designed Responsive Website
PROJECT WEIGHTAGE
The weightage of the Group Project 1 is 40% of the overall marks for the course. A
project report is required here.
The weightage of Group Project 2 is 40% of the overall marks for the course. The
project will be evaluated based on the actual output of the working website as well
as on individual performance.

The deliverables are:
Group Project 1 Full Documentation up to the design phase (Project Report)
Group Project 2
o Part 1: The Working Website
o Part 2: Project Post Mortem Report (Group) & Peers Evaluation Report
(Individual)
Please refer to Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 for report formats for Project Report and
Project Post Mortem Report respectively.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Through the project, you should be able to:
1. Define terminology, theories, concepts related to web design.
2. Create sitemaps, wireframes, and other design materials to communicate the
process involved in the planning and designing of a website development project.
3. Demonstrate skills in the process of producing a fully functional website.
4. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of interactive multimedia elements such as
information design, design interface and navigation for multimedia products for a
wide variety of market and audience.

GROUP PROJECTS IMPORTANT DATES


Week 3 (28th October 2016)
You are to form a group and submit a team charter for the group you have formed.
The team charter should include:
Group goals and objectives
How each members will communicate
Task Allocation
Logistics and meetings (where, when, how long, etc.)
Consequences for group members if they dont contribute, attend meetings,
etc.
How conflicts will be addressed and resolved
Group leader is to submit your groups team charter and brief project proposal
latest on Friday midnight (28th October 2016) in Schoology under the Assignment
Group Project 1 page.
Week 8 (3rd December 2016)
Each group is to complete the Group Project 1 latest on Saturday midnight (3rd
December 2016). You are to save your project report in Microsoft Word format or
PDF and name it as Project1_<tutorial group number>_<group number>.
e.g. Project1_M2DML1_Group1.docx OR Project1_M2DML1_Group1.pdf
Group leader is to submit your groups project report in Schoology under the
Assignment Group Project 1 page.
Note: There will be a Website Design Evaluation session on Week 8.

Week 13 (7th January 2017)


The Group Project 2 (Working website, Project Post Mortem Report & Peers
Evaluation Report) should be submitted latest on Saturday midnight (7th January
2017). Please organize your files according to the following folders:

Website Folder (Containing your whole website)

Project Post Mortem Report

All the folders are to be compressed into a single ZIP or RAR file with the name
Project2_<tutorial group number>_<group number>.
e.g. Project2_M2DML1_Group1.zip
There will be a Final Presentation session for each student on Week 13.
* Peers Evaluation Report is to be submitted individually to your lecturer.
MODE OF SUBMISSION
All parts of the assignment are to be submitted online through the course site at
Schoology (Login with your account) through the Submit Assignment button.

LATE SUBMISSION

A deduction of 5 marks of the maximum mark available from the actual mark
achieved by the student is imposed each day upon expiry of the deadline.
A further deduction of 5 marks is imposed continuously each day within the 5
subsequent working days or until the 50% pass mark for the assessment has been
reached. Any time after this point, assessment will not be allocated to late

submissions but will be assigned a mark of zero and deemed to be a nonsubmission. You will be deemed to have failed the assignment if your final mark is
below the 50% pass mark after late penalty.
COMPUTATION OF LATE PENALTY
For example, where a deadline is 12am on Monday, a 5 marks penalty shall be
deducted at 12:01am on Monday, and a subsequent 5 marks shall be deducted at
12:01am on Tuesday.

Section 1: Introduction & Objectives, Target Audience, Research & Planning


Introduction & Objectives
This sets the understanding of what the project is about. It should also include
information about what website you are to design. This part should also include
brief information on the website. You should also include information on what the
website should achieve once it is completed. Why are the identified goals
important? You must provide a clear understanding of what it is you are trying to
accomplish here.
Target Audience
This is a description of your target audience. You are to explain who your target
audience is and provide at least two Personas / User Profiles.
Research & Planning
This will state how and what information needed for the planning and developing
the project. What is the information needed? What tools or technologies are
needed? What concepts or principles to use? What is your planned timeline for
developing your website project (Starting from Group Project 1 to the completion of
Group Project 2)?

Section 2: Site Content, Site Structure & Functionalities, Page Layout


Site Content
A complete grouping of all content that will be available in the website to
accomplish the identified goals. You are to show your proposal on the categories /
groups of information / content for the website. You just need to show / describe
the content groups for the new website. There is no need to explain where you are
to put them in the website.
Site Structure & Functionalities
Defines how the site content groups will be arranged within the website. You need
to include the sitemap of the website here and explain how it works.
Page Layout
Defines how your page layouts will look like for the website. You need to include the
wireframes of the pages of your website. Each member has to provide their own
wireframes together with the finalized wireframes of the website the group have
agreed on. Only digital copies of wireframes are allowed here.
Section 3: Visual Design
Describe how the site will actually look and feel. You should explain on the site
design concept. The visual design will give a clear picture of what the completed
website will look like. Only the finalized mockups need to be included here.
Section 4: References
Include references used for the project using Harvard referencing system.
Section 5: Appendices
You should include the Team Charter, Brainstorm Cluster Diagram, evaluation
results, etc. in this section.

APPENDIX 2 - GROUP PROJECT 2: PROJECT POST MORTEM REPORT FORMAT


Describe three things that went well in your group project and three things that
didn't go so well.
When writing about the things that went well, you need to mention what
your group did to affect them.
When writing about the things that didn't go so well, you need to mention the
things that your group could have done better.
You need to write two paragraphs on each subject that you mentioned. There will
be an overall of 12 paragraphs.

Things that Went Well


This part is to describe and explain at least three main things that didnt go so well in
your group project. When writing about the things that didn't go so well, you need
to mention the things that your group could have done better. You need to write
two paragraphs on each subject that you mentioned.
Conclusion
This part is to summarize what you have written in the report and how you plan to
improve the project if given the opportunity.

Note:
You should focus more on the technical aspects of your project in this report.
However, I would also be interested to hear about your group dynamics. If you feel
like your group has worked very well together (e.g. you may write about that as one
of your subjects / points).
Please label the title of thing that went well or didnt go so well as subheadings.
