Reflection

From the micro teaching based on the lesson plan that my group and I had
constructed, I had recognised strengths and weaknesses of the lesson to be improvised.
Firstly, for the lesson plan, we had chosen on one of the topics from Year 3 text book which
is Unit 12 Fresh Fruits. The focus skill that is emphasized in this lesson plan is listening
and speaking which most of the activities conducted is involving listening and speaking. We
have set few objectives for the lesson which by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to
sing aloud the song I Love Fruits from the power point presentation with correct
pronunciation and intonation, complete the worksheet by asking their friend for information
based on the stimulus given and draw and talk about their favourite fruit by discussing with
their group members and present it to the whole class. From the micro teaching based on
the lesson plan also, I had recognised strengths and weaknesses of the lesson. So by that, I
had come out with few improvisations in order to have a good teaching and learning
process.
Based on the feedback that I had received after the micro teaching session, one of
the strength that I had identified is, the activities conducted in the lesson plan is attractive,
fun and meaningful at the same time. So when the activity conducted is fun and attractive, it
is easier to engage the pupils attention throughout teaching and learning session. For
examples of the activities conducted are singing a song, questioning and answering session
and draw and talk about their favourite fruit. By doing these activities, teacher will indirectly
teach listening and speaking skills to the pupils when pupils are encourage to talk and listen
while they are carrying out the activities. Besides that, the activities are also involving pupils
to work in pairs and groups where communication and social skills are being instilled
towards the pupils. So from the activity conducted, pupils will actively participate and pupils
will have longer memorability of the topic when they are carrying the activities instead of just
listening to the teachers explanations. This is the part where one of the approaches of
teaching and learning comes in where Communicative Approach is applied during the
activities. According to British Council (2002), the communicative approach is based on the
idea that learning language successfully comes through having to communicate real
meaning. So when learners are involved in real communication, their natural strategies for
language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language.
The next strength that I had identified during the micro teaching session is good
classroom management and good teachers attitude shown which are good eye contact with
the pupils, confidence and good voice projection, giving praises and clear instruction given
during conducting the activities. In order to have good classroom management, teachers

attitude towards the pupils plays an important role. Teacher need to be sensitive toward
these criteria which will help them to manage the classroom well besides classroom
discipline can be controlled. So without these aspects, it is difficult to manage and handle the
pupils when pupils are unclear about the given instruction and teachers voice projection is
very poor. So this will be my advantage to have a good voice projection which I can control
the classroom well and pupils will be clearly listen to my instructions and stay focus during
teaching and learning process. In addition, good eye contact with the pupils and giving
praises also are my areas when it comes to this micro teaching. It really gives effect to the
pupils when the teacher do not make eye contact with them and lack of praises which will
demotivated the pupils to be active in class. By doing such examples to the pupils, it is
reflected to one of the theories in learning which Behaviourism Theory. It is true that, by
giving reinforcement to the pupils especially positive reinforcement, the pupils will be more
motivated and encourage them to do their best work and encourage them to improve. So
these are the advantages that I had recognised and should be maintained in order to be a
good teacher in the future.
Every strength, there are also weakness. From my micro teaching session, I had
recognised the major weakness which is poor time management. First of all, as a trainee
teacher, it is quite challenging to manage time well for every stage in the lesson plan
because I am lack of experience. The problem begins when the micro teaching session
started late and it ended up early because of wrong estimation of time. During the micro
teaching, I did not aware of the time and only focusing on the activity. So the time estimated
for every activity is very short and pupils struggle to complete the activity within the given
time. Besides that, I also wrap up the lesson very fast by only asking few questions to the
pupils without noticing that there are few minutes more that can be used to do discussion
about the next topic that the pupils are going to learn in the next class. So this is going to be
a reminder to me in the future as I have to be aware of the time management as planned in
the lesson plan.
Last but not the least is the suggestion for improvement of the weakness of the
lesson plan. In order to overcome the weakness, I have to give more attention to manage
the time well and full use of the time provided during teaching and learning session. I have to
keep in track with the lesson plan so that the time is well managed according to every stage.
Besides that, I need to be more relaxed and comfortable, so that pupils can have their time
to do the activities conducted and discussions after they had finished their tasks. I have to
put my own initiatives to overcome this problem so that the teaching and learning process
will be meaningful towards the pupils.

In conclusion, the micro teaching session went smoothly as planned and from this
assignment, I had gained a lot of new knowledge and experiences in managing a classroom,
planning a lesson, preparing suitable teaching aids and have a very good activity in
achieving the learning objectives and curriculum standards.
