Itis understood that the proposed structure may be supported on bored piles, which are likely to be embedded at least 500mm into the extremely weathered siltstone. An undrained shear strength value for the extremely weathered siltstone is required. DISCUSSIONS Bored piers or piles must penetrate through any fill material, the natural clayey silt and silty clay and be embedded at least 100mm into extremely weathered siltstone. A maximum allowable bearing pressure of 350kPa is available beneath bored piles. An undrained shear strength value of 150kPa may be adopted for the extremely weathered siltstone. Based on the borehole results of the initial site investigation undertaken on 19 August. 2015, the following founding depths are applicable: Bore Hole No. Founding Depth ‘Founding Material 1 2000 mm, Silty CLAY 2 2000 mm, Silty CLAY 3 2000 mm, ilty CLAY. The founding depths presented above are relative to the surface level at the time of the field investigation. In the absence of piling data in the site geological formation, an approximate skin friction value 35kPa may be adopied for bored piles embedded into the extremely weathered siltstone, For accurate design skin friction values advice from a piling contractor should be sought.
