Deming's 14 points for top management Reaction Paper

1) Create constancy of purpose for improvement of product and service.


All companies want to stay in business. To make this possible, the
company must have the constancy of purpose and dedication to keep the
company alive. They need to inspire the workers to stay competitive in the
market and remind them about the importance of stability in jobs. Also the
management need to remember that the customer is the most important
part of the production line so that products and services must be
improved.
2) Adopt the new philosophy.
The competition in the market grow at a rapid rate and the customer
demands change very fast. Because of it, the company must accept new
philosophies according to the market trends and technology revolution.
Also the company must not tolerate commonly accepted levels of
mistakes and defects. The workers must receive effective training so that
they understand their job.

3) Cease dependence on mass inspection.
The management should not depend on the inspection phase of the
production to determine the quality of the product. Instead they must
improve the production processes to ensure that no raw materials are
wasted. This also may imply the efficiency of the produced goods since
there are no excess and waste materials during the production.
4) End the practice of awarding business on price tag alone.
We should have the mindset that in acquiring our materials for production
we must prioritize the quality over price. Instead, require meaningful
measures of quality along with price. Move towards a single supplier for
any one item, on a long-term relationship of loyalty and trust. The aim is
to minimize total cost, not merely initial cost.

5.) Constantly improve the system of production and services.
The only thing that is constant here is change. So constantly improving the
system of production and service may really help the management to have
its quality in everything they need to have done. Because as the

technology continues to upgrade the production and service shall adapt


with it. This may also help the management to stay competitive or has its
competitive advantage.
6.) Institute training
Having training to those employees and managers may enhance the
capacity of either their knowledge or ability to do things effectively and
efficiently. Also the management can easily cope with the changes happen
to the market.
Like if you done training, you can possible have new skills that requires
how you can satisfy customers needs. As well as this may lessen the
failure cost of the management- internal or external.

7.) Adopt and institute leadership.
Leaders must know the work that they supervise. They must be
empowered and directed to communicate and to act on conditions that
need correction. A company can display stunning growth if potential
leaders are identified and encouraged. A leader must guide his
organization through the stages of transformation but what is in his head is
not enough. So even the management identified the leader, a worker must
help the leader in order to have a successfull company.
8. Drive out fear
No one can give his best performance unless he feels secure. Employees
should not be afraid to express their ideas or ask questions. And creating
a fearfull impression does not give more quality and productivity to work.
So and therefore, driving out fear is essential not only to ourself but also to
the things and/ or people that surrounds us.

9. Break down barrier between staff area.
If it has barrier with staff area in this the performance of the staff will fall.
The staff must have be closer to everyone and be open minded to do the
operation well. Staff and managers should know their limitation of each
one of them. Make sure that their limitation be known well to do the
operation well and clean.

10. Eliminate slogan, exhortation and targets for the work force.
Eliminates exhortation which giving pressure to the employees. But give
atleast small amount of exhortation. Because no amount of exhortation
had any effect. Make sure that the managers and workers must have
communication.

B. Eliminate numerical goals for people in management
Quotas and numerical goals are the leading cause of fear in the
workplace. They rob individuals of intrinsic motivation and force them to
work in a counterproductive manner. The reason for the failure of such
numerical quotas is that the workforce is being paid for the quantity of their
production not the quality. The workers do not realize that the purpose of
their work is to create customer satisfaction.

12. Remove barriers that rob people of pride of workmanship


We need people to have pride in their work not in their ability to meet
ratings or to be compared. Treat workers the same, and don't make them
compete with other workers for monetary or other rewards. In one
organization they want a collaboration not competition. Over time, the
quality system will naturally raise the level of everyone's work to an
equally high level.

13. Encourage education and self-improvement for everyone
It is essential for the management to encourage everyone to get additional
education and to engage in self-improvement. A person must grow to be
an asset of the company. Also, everyone need to learn new technology
and techniques. This will increase employee longevity.

14) Take action to accomplish the transformation

Indeed, it is not enough that top management commit themselves for life
to quality and productivity. They must know what it is they are committed
to, that is, what they must do. Management needs to take action to
accomplish the transformation. Consider that every job and activity is part
of a process so we must aim and goal toward meeting the needs of the
customer.
