Event: Field Trip to Fowles Marsh Date: Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. Location: Fowles Marsh-M eet at Polaris Career Center, 7285 Old Oak Blvd, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130 Leader: Liz McQuaid Results: 17 Birders, 38 Species plus 2 other taxa Blue skies and brilliant sun brought out a variety of bird species at Fowles Marsh. Flocks of blackbirds included Red-winged Blackbirds (mostly females and youngsters), Brown-headed Cowbirds and Rusty Blackbirds. Precise numbers were difficult to peg, due to the many birds in constant motion in and out of wetland vegetation. Cedar Waxwings also flocked, sparkling in treetops. Yellow-rumped Warblers were present in small active groups. Kinglets have arrived, a sign of impending winter. Along the trail to Lake Isaac, Eastern Bluebirds posed in the sun. At Lake Isaac, Pied-billed Grebes, a Double-crested Cormorant and Eastern Phoebes were a pleasant surprise. Thanks to leader Liz McQuaid and to Dave Graskemper, who shared scope views.
