anyDBASE Introduction

anyDBASE is a database management program for managing casting, mold and other materials used in
casting process. anyDBASE consists of two types of databases general database and user database. The
general database includes over 200 kinds of properties of ferrous alloy, non-ferrous alloy, non-metal and
functional materials based on various international standards (KS, JIS, ASTM, etc.).The user database is for
creating a database according to specific user requirements by selectively choosing and/or copying desired
materials from the general database or by creating a database without using resources in the general database.
When setting simulation conditions, users can simply select desired materials from database without having
to input material properties each time. Additionally, it provides the HTC (Heat Transfer Coefficient) between
materials to perform simulations more effectively.
Using the database technology of AnyCasting, anyDBASE can quickly process high volumes of data. In
addition, close correlations between materials allow users to copy and edit materials including HTC.
Fast Data Access & Search: Able to effectively manage high volumes of data.
Data Structure of Close Correlations between Materials: Able to easily copy & edit materials based on close
correlations between materials with automatic setting of HTC
Easy-to-Create Database: Able to easily create database using copy-paste and drag & drop functions

3.2 Search Materials

The search function is used when users are unsure of the exact name of material or alloy system. Searching is
performed by using key words. When the searching is completed, it displays related materials within the
search scope in the list window.
Select Edit->Search in the menu.

Search Word: Input search word. Special characters can be also used.
Name Spec: Select search specification (current specification or all)
Search Category: Select search category (current category or all)

Special characters that can be used as search words are as follow:

Used to search material names that contain specific letters
E.g. SK* search all material names that begin with SK
Use to search material names that have a specific number of letters
E.g. ?KD search material names that consist of three letters and include KD

AnyCasting Advanced Casting Simulation Software 013

Using search word [A~Z]356% will yield the following results:

3.3 Search HTC (Heat Transfer Coefficient)

The HTC between two materials can be searched through the below method.

Select a material to search from the list and click

button in the HTC search bar.

button is used to delete selected material.

Clicking Search button after selecting two materials will display the following HTC window:

014 AnyCasting User Maunal / anyDBASE

Displayed fields of HTC Property Window are as follow:

Code: Unique number of HTC

Material 1, Material 2: Names of selected materials
Show: Show the property information of material
Last Updated: Date of last update
Message: Memo
HTC List Window: Classified into Gravity, Low Pressure& High Pressure. This classification is not according
to casting process but according to the level of external pressure during filling or solidification.
*Note
In the general database, two materials are selected to search the HTC. In the case of user database, the HTC
of all alloys included in the database is displayed even if one or none of the alloys are selected.

4.2 Add Materials

Add materials in the newly created user database. They can be copied from the general database or added
directly. Category can be edited according to alloy system or project.
Edit Category
Using the same alloy classification method of the general database, creating groups to categorize and
manage materials is also possible in the user database.

Select Add in the right mouse menu in the tree

list of the material classification window

A new category is automatically created as the

sub-field of the selected tree field

For each category, the Delete and Rename functions of the right mouse menu can be used. To delete a
category, it is necessary to first delete all materials in the category. Users can easily move and copy materials
by using the copy-paste and drag & drop functions in the general & user databases.
There are two methods of adding materials to the user database. To simplify the process, first of all, select
Window->Tile in the menu and arrange the general and user databases side by side, as shown below.

018 AnyCasting User Maunal / anyDBASE

Copy General Database Materials

There are two methods of copying materials from the general database.

Select a material or several materials (through Ctrl/Shift + mouse button) from the general database list
window and drag & drop in the user database list window. Or, directly copy them to the tree category
through drag & drop.

AnyCasting Advanced Casting Simulation Software 019

After selecting material(s) from the list window, select Edit->Copy Material(Ctrl+C) or the right mouse
button Copy menu. Select Edit->Paste Material(Ctrl+V) or the right mouse button Paste menu from the
user database list window.
In the case of copying several materials, the HTC settings between materials are also copied.

020 AnyCasting User Maunal / anyDBASE

Add New Material

To add a material that does not exist in the general database, it is required to create a new field and input
corresponding properties. In the user database list window, select the right mouse button Add menu.

In the new material property window displayed, input properties.

AnyCasting Advanced Casting Simulation Software 021

4.3 Edit Material Properties

The properties of newly added material can be edited through the following method. Select a material from

Input Material 1 only and Search: Display all HTC values related to the selected material
Search with No Input: Display HTC values of all materials

4.6 Edit HTC (Heat Transfer Coefficient)

A search result of HTC is displayed as follows:

Changing specification in combo box will display the corresponding material name. The checkbox of the
list window indicates the existence of HTC. HTC can be edited by clicking Edit button or double-clicking HTC.

026 AnyCasting User Maunal / anyDBASE

In the case of materials that are copied from the general database, change the existing HTC values since
correlations between materials are also copied. In the case of materials newly added to the user database, it
is required to directly input HTC values of each material since there are no correlations between materials.
