book model, but with a twist—its new Inkspirations series pairs tranquil
scenes waiting to be colored with inspirational quotations from the likes of
Mahatma Gandhi and Maya Angelou. Its first two titles were Inkspirations

The Perfection Deception

Why Striving to Be Perfect Is Sabotaging Your Relationships,
Making You Sick, and Holding Your Happiness Hostage
JANE BLUESTEIN, PhD.
Most people mistakenly confuse perfectionism with a healthy
striving for excellence—but there is a big difference. One can
lead to great achievement (or at least great learning) and the
other is a psychological wound, the voice of the inner critic
that screams ‘failure,’ ‘loser,’ or ‘fraud,’ regardless of the
authenticity of our efforts, progress, or success.
For those who are bound by the impossible demands of
perfectionism and those who feel bound by someone else’s
perfectionistic standards, Dr. Bluestein emphatically shows
that perfectionism is not a good thing, and it’s not remotely
the same as doing your best. Through personal interviews
and the latest research, she explores how our culture fuels
the dysfunction, how perfectionism develops. Further, she
provides practical strategies for moving toward authenticity
and wholeness to live with confidence, self-fulfillment, and
happiness.

Miracles We Have Seen

America’s Leading Physicians Share Stories They Can’t Forget
HARLEY ROTBART, MD.
This is a remarkable collection of miracles—medical events
witnessed by leading physicians for which there is no
reasonable medical explanation, or, if there is, the explanation
itself is extraordinary. Readers will find dramatic essays that
detail spectacular serendipities, impossible cures, breathtaking
resuscitations, extraordinary awakenings, and recovery from
unimaginable disasters. All these stories truly illustrate the
difference between “curing” and “healing.”
While some cases are emotionally and physically spectacular,
others involve a powerful transformation of everyone
involved. Even the worst tragedies leave a positive impact for
the triumphs of both our hearts and our minds.

Connecting with Coincidence

The New Science for Using Synchronicity and Serendipity in Your Life
BERNARD D. BEITMAN, MD.
We’ve all experienced or heard of surprising events and unexplainable coincidences—money that seems to come from
nowhere, a spontaneous idea that turns into a life-changing
solution, meeting our soulmate on a flight we weren’t supposed to take, or families being reunited by “accident” after
years of separation. Often these coincidences are explained
as being controlled by a higher power or pure chance. But for
the first time since Carl Jung’s work, comes bold new research
that explains scientifically how we can identify, understand,
and perhaps even control the frequency of coincidences in our
everyday lives.
Where other books on coincidences tend to be theoretical,
inspirational, or story collections only, Beitman’s book is the
first to provide a scientific understanding and practical ways in
which readers can use them in their own lives. He reveals:

• How serendipity can offer insights into solving problems or

synchronicity.
• How to interpret the meaning of a coincidence.

BERNARD D. BEITMAN, MD., is the first psychiatrist since Carl Jung to
attempt to systematize the study of coincidences. He is a Visiting Professor at the

How to Use the Most Profound Part of Your Brain Under Any
Kind of Stress
STEVEN STOSNY, PhD.
Success in work, love, and life depends on developing habits
that activate the powerful prefrontal cortex when we need it
most. Unfortunately, under stress, the human brain tends to
revert to emotional habits we forged in toddlerhood: blame,
denial, avoidance, reacting to a jerk like a jerk, and turning
our connections into cold shoulders—or worse.
Author Steven Stosny offers a ground-breaking formula for
building new, pressure-resistant habits. Based on research in
psychology, neurobiology, and anthropology, Stosny will show
anyone how to switch to the adult brain automatically when
things get tough and to soar above the impulse to make
things worse.

The Practice

Simple Tools for Managing Stress, Finding Inner Peace, and
Uncovering Happiness
BARB SCHMIDT
The mind has a way of interfering with personal happiness,
often causing stress and doubt. Getting in touch with one’s
inner source of peace and following its guidance over the
mind’s often-unfounded concerns requires training and
discipline. Knowing this truth intimately, Peaceful Mind
Peaceful Life Founder Barb Schmidt developed a three-part
spiritual discipline called The Practice. The Practice is a toolkit
to be used throughout the day to guide people who are
looking for confidence, less stress, and deeper meaning along
life’s path. These tools are a compilation of the great Truths
taught by authentic teachers and masters throughout the
centuries from various religious and spiritual traditions.
In the first three chapters of The Practice, readers are guided
through the daily routine: Waking Up, Living Present, and
Letting Go. Beginning with a morning meditation, a thread
of peace is followed over the course of the day through the
repetition of a sacred mantra, practicing focused attention,
reading for inspiration, and reflecting on the day. In the
concluding chapter, readers are provided with an opportunity
to deepen their experience of The Practice with engaging
exercises.

have always wanted. Simon encourages readers to embrace
the power of commitment to create a life of greater peace,

There is a continuing hunger for Eastern philosophy and
spirituality among Westerners, and finally one of the West’s
top experts, who has been writing on, lecturing, teaching,

blended these principles with our core Western beliefs, giving

intentions over powerlessness.

Always Discerning

Joseph A. Tetlow, SJ

An Ignatian Spirituality for the New Millennium
JOSEPH A. TETLOW, SJ
Pope Francis has explicitly and repeatedly stated that
discernment is essential for anyone who is a follower of Jesus
Christ. But what, exactly, is discernment? Why must we do it?
When do we do it? How should we do it?
In Always Discerning, Joseph A. Tetlow, SJ, delves thoughtfully
into these questions and shares how lay Christians can
implement discernment into not only life’s big decisions but
also into the everyday, more mundane choices we constantly
find ourselves having to make. Guided by Scripture, Pope
Francis’s own words, and Ignatian spirituality, Fr. Tetlow helps
us see that the dynamic interrelationship of head, heart, and
hands is crucial to the discernment process.

True Stories of Heavenly Visitors

25th Anniversary Edition

JOAN WESTER ANDERSON
We don’t hear much about angels nowadays. When we do,
they have often been secularized or commercialized. Instead
of ministering angels who reveal God’s love and mercy, we
hear about “angel investors” or we gobble up foil-wrapped
chocolate angels at Christmas. But Joan Wester Anderson
trusts that angels still walk among us.
On mountain slopes, on desolate rural highways, in airplane
cockpits—these are just a few of the many places where
ordinary people have felt the very real presence and power
of God’s angels at work in their lives. In this twenty-fifth
anniversary edition of her New York Times best-selling book
Where Angels Walk, Joan Wester Anderson (the “Angel
Lady”) offers dozens of reasons—stories, actually—for us to
reconsider our rather limited view of angels. In addition to the
original collection of angelic encounters, several new stories

Station to Station

An Ignatian Journey through the Stations of the Cross
GARY JANSEN
Christians have asked, «How should I respond to suffering?»
And the answer to that question, believes Gary Jansen, can be
found by looking closely at the Passion of Jesus.
In Station to Station, Jansen uses the scriptural Way of the
Cross to focus our minds and hearts on Jesus’ anguish and
death. Walking through each station, we see the unique ways
in which Jesus responded to suffering, and we are challenged
to react similarly in our own struggles. Furthermore,
through various Ignatian exercises, Jansen encourages us
to imaginatively pray our way through the stations and to
gradually respond more as Jesus would when we are weighed
down by life’s burdens.

In The Joy of Discipleship, Pope Francis reminds us that joy
should be one of the defining characteristics of any person
who has truly encountered Jesus. This skillfully curated
collection of homilies, speeches, and other documents from
Pope Francis, compiled and edited by James P. Campbell,
offers a fresh perspective on why Christian disciples should
be so joyful in the first place and how that joy might manifest
itself in our individual daily lives. Covering a broad range of
themes—Christ’s Resurrection, mercy, wealth and poverty, the
Christian family, and more—The Joy of Discipleship moves us
to meditate on Christ and then inspires us to move out from
our own four walls, jubilantly proclaiming God’s transforming

Taste & See

Experiencing the Goodness of God with Our Five Senses
GINNY KUBITZ MOYER

Taste & See

Most Catholics are quite comfortable with the idea of
encountering God with hearts and minds. Using the heart or
brain to “sense” God’s presence doesn’t feel like a stretch.
But the notion of finding God with our five senses—sight,
hearing, smell, touch, and taste—could seem strange indeed.
In fact, it might even seem worldly or downright wrong.
In Taste and See, Ginny Kubitz Moyer beautifully counters
this common misunderstanding. Using personal stories,
anecdotes, and Scripture, she demonstrates how the five
senses are a powerful, biblically based mean for us to
encounter God, not only as we practice our faith but also as
we participate in the “messy splendor” of daily life.

Cancer is a life-altering event of seismic proportions that
forever impacts people’s lives, and pushes them to reorder
priorities, reassess values, and perhaps rethink their faith. A
diagnosed tumor forced Heather King to live at the crossroads
of uncertainty, belief, fear, and modern medicine. Only her
faith in Christ, the Great Physician, helped her sort through
the crippling uncertainty and choose her best way forward.
Stripped chronicles King’s decision to carefully examine all
the medical evidence available and to choose to bring God
into her decision making, even if that meant going against
established medical advice.

WALKING
with

PETER

Flawed, Forgiven, and Faithful
STEPHEN J. BINZ
If St. Peter had moved in business or political circles, he
would have been forgotten millennia ago. In most areas of
life, those who make major mistakes are cast out, left to
languish in their failure. But Peter, who made more than one
major mistake while following Jesus, has been highly revered
within the Church since the days when Jesus walked with the
disciples.
In fact, in holding Peter up so high, we can easily miss the
essential lesson his life teaches us: that when flawed people
experience forgiveness through Jesus, they are freed and
empowered to be faithful followers of Christ. Author Stepgen
Binz helps us embrace the reality that God works through
broken human beings to accomplish truly beautiful things.

present day—has always been filled by imperfect people.
Mysteriously and wonderfully, that’s exactly the type of person
through whom God advances the Church!

STEPHEN J. BINZ is a biblical scholar, award-winning author, and popular
speaker. Following graduate degrees at the Gregorian University and the
Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem, he has developed Bible

JEFF LAZARUS
In a world where everyone is barking but no one’s listening,
this clever book reveals that the real antidote to our
communication “faux paws” can be learned from observing
our canine companions. True listening can enhance every
relationship in one’s life, can transform broken associations
and inject new life into business and social interactions.
Our communications are expanding horizontally, but
shrinking vertically and we’re trading quality for quantity,
real for virtual. So, by listening like a dog, readers will find
renewed connection and a deeper sense of compassion,
companionship, and understanding with the people in their
lives.
Each chapter focuses on human behavior and compares that
with different aspects of canine behavior, applying it to the
world of business and personal communications.

JEFF LAZARUS
Dog·tol·o·gy
noun
1. The belief in Dog.
2. The system of rituals, practices, and behaviors engaged in
by Dogtologists.
Chew on this. As humans, we have a deep need to believe.
A need to relate to something greater and more ideal than
ourselves. Perhaps that’s why so many millions believe in
Dog. Man’s devotion to Dog has come to rival the great
-isms and -ologies of the world. This has gone way beyond
a hobby. We may not literally worship Dogs, but we come
pawfully close. This rabid reverence for Rover has a name:
It’s called Dogtology. Dogtology is for the dog lover who has
bailed on a date because they didn’t want Twinkles to be left
home alone, for the human whose dog owns a more festive
holiday wardrobe than they do, those whose pups dine on
free-range bison burgers while they live off ramen, or whose
smartphones have more photos of their dog than of the
humans in their family.

Stopping the Noise in Your Head

The New Way to Overcome Anxiety and Worry
REID WILSON, PhD.
Author Reid Wilson proposes a guide to handle those worries
that pop up in our daily lives, and addresses the most serious
problems faced by those with panic, social anxieties, and
phobias.
At the beginning of this book, readers will see that worry
serves an essential function by helping us solve legitimate
problems. Through the book, they will look at times when
anxious worrying disturbs us instead of helping us, and
how worry limits our successes in service of this dominant
challenger. The goal is to learn how to win that challenge.

“When worry plays a role in helping us to solve our problems,
it does a fantastic job. So I want you to love worry when it
serves you. But when it becomes a bothersome noise in your
head, it has no redeeming value and you need to kick it to the
curb.”, Dr Wilson.
Drawing on a range of sources—from firefighters and fitness
instructors to Sir Isaac Newton and Muhammad Ali—Stopping
the Noise in Your Head demonstrates the importance of
shifting our perspective and stepping towards our challenges
in order to regain control of our lives.

Independent Children
DR. REID WILSON, PhD. AND LYNN LYONS, LICSW.
One in every five kids suffers from a diagnosable anxiety
disorder. Unfortunately, when parents or professionals offer
help in traditional ways, they unknowingly reinforce a child’s
worry and avoidance. From their success with hundreds of
organizations, schools, and families, Reid Wilson and Lynn
Lyons share their unconventional approach of stepping into
uncertainty in a way that is currently unfamiliar but infinitely
successful.
Using current research and contemporary examples, the book
exposes the most common anxiety-enhancing patterns—
including reassurance, accommodation, avoidance, and poor
problem solving—and offers a concrete plan with 7 key
principles that foster change. And, since new research reveals
how anxious parents typically make for anxious children, the
book offers exercises and techniques to change both the
children’s and the parental patterns of thinking and behaving.

Arab Dawn

Arab Youth and the Demographic Dividend They Will Bring

BESSMA MOMANI
In the West, news about the Middle East is dominated by
an endless stream of reports and commentary about civil
war, sectarian violence, religious extremism, and economic
stagnation. But do they tell the full story? For instance, who
knew that university enrolment in the war-torn Palestinian
territories exceeds that of Hong Kong, or that more than a
third of Lebanese entrepreneurs are women?
Change is on its way in the Middle East, argues Bessma
Momani, and its cause is demographic. Today, one in five
Arabs is between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four. Young,
optimistic, and increasingly cosmopolitan, their generation
will shape the region’s future. Drawing on interviews, surveys,
and other research conducted with young people in fifteen
countries across the Arab world, Momani describes the
passion for entrepreneurship, reform, and equality among
Arab youth. With insightful political analysis based on the
latest statistics and first-hand accounts, Arab Dawn is an
invigorating study of the Arab world and the transformative
power of youth.

The ‘diamind’ (or dialogical mind) is characterized by bistability (simultaneously holding opposite plans, models,

meliorism (increasing the logical depth and informational
breadth of one’s thinking processes), choicefulness (retaining
the ability to choose among various representations of the
world, the self and others) and polyphony (thinking about the
way one formulates and solves a problem while at the same
time thinking about the problem itself).

was driving back from Santa Fe where he was working on a script
at a friend’s house, the actress Marsha Mason. At one a.m, a call
came in to Wendy Devore, Gary’s wife. He said simply, “I’m pumping
pure adrenalin,” language the intelligence community uses as code
for “I’m in trouble.” That’s the last time Wendy heard her husband’s
voice. It was the last proof of life investigators had to go on.
In Pumping Pure Adrenalin, the reader takes the journey with
Crutchfield, turning over every lead and trying to make pieces of the
puzzle fit. How did Devore’s car end up in the Los Angeles canal a
year later? Why was his DNA sample “lost” in the mail? Why were
his hands cut off and replaced by hand bones over 100 years old?
Was he the victim of a carjacking in the Mojave dessert and they
ditched the car? Did Gary have dealings with drug cartels based on
his movie work? Would they want to see him dead? Or was Gary still
alive, one of the 900,000 people reported missing in America each
year? Lots of guys wanted to slip away from their lives and their
wives but Devore was in love. It didn’t seem possible.
Crutchfield then hit upon what he believes to be the source of Gary’s
disappearance: A script about the secret war in Panama and the
American government’s collusion with drug traffickers to fund the
war against the contras. This discovery had already cost one man
his life: famed journalist Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News
had covered the Noriega-Washington connection and ended up a
“suicide,” two bullets in his head. Devore’s script “The Big Steal”
– a script he felt was his best – detailed the U.S. involvement in this
secret war. All 120-pages were wiped away forever by, presumably,
Chase Brandon, the CIA’s liaison to Hollywood.
Who killed Gary Devore? No one knows. Still others believe that
Gary is alive. The mystery continues but time has a way of giving
up secrets so Don Crutchfield will stay on the case as determined to
solve it.
