Painting with rollers and tied rope
Social Development:
The children will use cooperation and sharing by using the same paint on a trey, and
using the same paper, to make one big art piece. They can express how they are
feeling with other children, if they have a conflict or if they going through a hard
time and need to express it on paper. They can experience problem solving, if the
paint runs out or there is not enough room for everyone to fit around the paper.
They experience cooperative play by working side by side on the art work. This
activity is perfect for social development
Emotional Development:
Children cant experience a right or wrong way to do things, they can do whatever
theyd like in this activity, and it would still turn out great. They will be able to enjoy
themselves in this activity, because of the different textures that will turn out on the
paper. They can make a choice on what colors to use on the paper, and can plan on
what they want to do. They feel satisfied in their work, because it is theirs and they
worked together to make something great.
Physical Development
1. Small muscle:
The children can use small muscle development by griping onto the rollers with
their fingers, and hands. The children can also use eye-hand coordination by picking
a spot on the paper with their eyes to paint and using their hands to paint down
onto the paper.
2. Large muscle:
Children will be using large muscle, by walking back and forth on the paper to paint
where theyd like to paint.
Intellectual Development
1. Social knowledge:
The children use social knowledge by saying the name of the colors of the paint.
They can also use language to talk back and forth to each other.
2. Physical knowledge:
Children experience cause and effect by what the paint looks likes with just paint
and what it looks like when it has the rope on it. The children can also make theories
on what will happen if the rope is on the rollers. They can experiment on the
different types of colors they can make, if they mix the colors together.

3. Logical/mathematical knowledge
a. Number concept: they can compare the amount of paint they have on
the rollers, to what it looks like on the paper, if they have less, the
paint wont be as thick.
b. Classification: The children can sort the different colors on the trey.
They are seeing the rope in a different way, then what is typically used.
c. Seriation: The children can compare the sizes of rollers, which ones are
bigger and smaller.
d. Conservation: The paint will stay the same color, no matter what roller
you use.
4. Spatial/temporal knowledge
a. Spatial relationships: If the children dont like the rope on the rollers
then they can take it off. You can see the distance of how far you can
roll the roller. Different shapes will take place on the paper.
b. Temporal relationship: You can experience different amount of speed
with the roller. The children can plan their art out, and then experience
it.
5. Representation:
a. They can use different materials for self-expression such as the rope
and roller. They can paint an animal or person and then imitate their
sound.
