Introduction
This example HYSYS unit operation extension allows a HYSYS stream to be saturated with
water. The extension calculates the amount of water required to give a specified humidity
condition at given reference conditions (process conditions or user entered conditions) For
the product stream a variety of humidity indicators are calculated. Alternatively the extension
can calculate the humidity indicators for a wet feed with no additional added water stream.

Installation
Unzip the saturate.edf and saturate.dll files to a convenient directory on your hard disk.
Before the extension appears in HYSYS, it must be registered. The simplest way to do this is
to go to Tools Preferences, then choose the Extensions tab, click the Register an Extension
button, then navigate to the location of the saturate.dll file. Local Administrator privileges are
required in order to register an extension.
The Saturate Stream Unit extension should then appear under the Extensions category of the
Add Operation window. (Accessible via Flowsheet Add Operation, or by pressing F12.)
3.1
Any cases containing older versions of the Saturate extension will automatically use the new
extension once it is registered. However before registering version 1.3.1 you should first
unregister any older versions of the extension by selecting it and pressing the Unregister
extension button in Tools Preferences.

Usage
Add the unit operation by choosing Flowsheet, Add Operation (or F12). Then choose
Saturate with water from the Extensions category. Connect the streams on the Connections
tab.

Description

Saturated stream
Water Stream
The extension calculates the water flow in this stream to give the
required humidity conditions. The extension will set the composition in
this stream to be water only. This stream should not have any user
entered values. The extension does not perform an energy balance so
any temperatures and pressures entered into this stream will be ignored.
In this mode the extension calculates the amount of water required to give a specified
humidity condition at given reference conditions (process conditions or user entered
conditions) For the product stream a variety of Humidity indicators are calculated.
Alternatively the extension can calculate the humidity indicators for a wet product stream.
To use this mode specify one of the properties from the Humidity Indicators group (except
Water Dewpoint or Wet bulb temperature) on the Parameters tab:
The extension will calculate the required amount of water to give the specified property in the
Product stream and will calculate all the rest of the indicators.
The default setting is a relative humidity of 100%, i.e. a water saturated stream.
If the feed stream is wet it is possible that the extension can calculate a negative water stream
flow: i.e. some water must be removed from the stream to give the required humidity
conditions.
4.2
To use this mode do not specify any of the humidity indicators; instead tick the Water content,
Use process conditions checkbox in the Reference conditions group.

The extension will calculate all the humidity indicators at the reference conditions based on
the flow of water in the Feed stream. In this mode the water stream has a calculated flow rate
of zero.
4.3
In either mode the conditions at which the humidity calculations are performed (the reference
conditions) can be user specified or set equal to the process conditions. This option is set by
the Temperature and Pressure checkboxes in the Reference conditions group on the
Parameters tab.
The default setting is to use the process conditions (in this instance either the Feed or Product
stream temperature and pressure need to be specified). By un-checking the checkbox, other
reference conditions can be specified.

These two values use the units in the top drop down to the right of the table. By changing the
value of the second drop down (normal/standard) you can choose between normal and
standard conditions.
