My Arab Father - Arab American Artists

Describing my father story, I used henna in two different forms to give depth and variation to the
painting. One form is henna water which is the clear fluid on top of the henna mix which can be of
variable shades. The other form is the henna thick paste which gives dark brown textured paint.

The Story of The Cloack
"People of the House" of prophesy of Islam, Fatimah ( peace be upon her), her father, Prophet
Muhammed (peace be upon him) her husband Ali and her two sons Al-Hasan and Al-Husain. Gabriel is
bringing them a message from God. I had repeated this painting in shades of gray acrylic on fabric and
used in in the installation: Fatimah: Queen of Heaven.
Hadith Al-Kisa (Narration of the Cloak) is the narration of an incident where the Prophet Mohammed
(saw) gathered Ali, Hassan, Hussayn and Fatema (peace be upon them all) under his cloak and
announced them as his Ahl (Family).
It was then that the second part of verse 33:33 of the Holy Quran was revealed, known as "Ayat alTathir" (Verse of Purification), in which Allah states He has purified the Family of the Prophet (Ali,
Hassan, Hussayn and Fatema), thus proving their infallibility.
This narration has been narrated by many people, including Umme Salma, Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari,
Ayesha, and Ibne Abbas.
There are also various modifications and differences between the narrations of the different people.
The most authentic version of Hadith Al-Kisa, according to the Shia, is that version which has been
narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari, all other versions have either been edited or are incomplete.

Painting on white fabric, I used acrylic shades of grey and gloss medium. The painting represents
Fatimah Al zahra, Prophet Muhammad's daughter standing in the middle holding a large decorated
scarf as a tent hoovering over her family members: her father on the right pointing up to her and her
husband and two sons on the left. Gabriel is seen to the right of the family holding a paper with
Qur'anic writings with his right hand.
