Just how the two partnerships work is unknown since, as privately held entities
under a Swiss umbrella organization called Arthur Andersen & Company S.C.,
they are not required to public reports. It is known, however that they remain
linked both philosophically and financially, sharing some level of profits and
expenses. Call It Method/1
Andersen pioneered in the 1960's a step-by-step methodology for handling any
computer project. Known as Method/1, it provides a common language for
questioning potential clients about what needs to be done and what kinds of
software and hardware should be used. It also offers strict guidelines for
managing a project and estimating its costs.

If you can, but you aren't from Andersen: Method/1 (then M/1, right before I left in
1990) was structured around functional traceability and documentation
classification (e.g. ADM for administration, TCH for technical), across a basic
waterfall process (first analysis, then develop, etc), and a multi-stage integration
process (unit test, integration test, system test, etc), but it catered also for
"alternative" approaches, e.g. the iterative when the requirements were built by
the side-effect of the first deliveries, or the post-production support for what we
could now call continuous improvement.

Method/1 was the project management methodology used by Arthur Andersen
(now called Accenture) back in the late 80s and early 90s to do IT Projects. They
also used a methodology called Design/1.
Because the methodology had a fairly fixed process, it was abandoned my many
in favor of a more flexible methodology like agile, RUP, RAD, JAD, etc.
Often, business models changed during the design phase and the end result of
the design no longer fit the business' need. So, a process or methodology that
used a more 'design on the fly', and the development of smaller units of
deliverables, became more practical.
A lot of this change to a more flexible methodology came about when mainframe
applications gave way to PC or PC Server based applications. Multiple, smaller
applications were being developed to satisfy business needs, and could be
developed independently of other apps, requiring less initial analysis and design.
Many of the newer methodologies use an iterative approach to each phase of
development, and several phases can at times run concurrently, or during the
same timeline. Developing the actual product can be started before the entire
design is finalized. ----yahoo.de
