social issues set by the client and the wall art also
highlights real world issues within the area of ecology
set by the exhibition curator. This has been a
successful feature of the design.

Size

The final dimensions of the wall hangings are 53cm x

53cm. The overall width of the three wall hangings
together fall just less than 1.6m x 53cm in height.
These dimensions successfully meet the specified
requirements of both the client and exhibition.

Manufacturing

10

Techniques

The manufacturing techniques that have been utilised

throughout the design of the wall art are all textile art
techniques. Successfully meeting the set criteria.

Function

The wall hangings are all durable and abrasion

resistant with the use of double fold binding and sturdy
fabric such as cotton drill. The size and weight of the
design ensures the wall hangings are easily portable.
During the colouration process of specific components
in the design, mordants have been used to ensure the
dye remains permanent. These mordants ensure that
the design is not affected during general care and
maintenance. Additionally, the wall hanging can be
packed with ease. All of these factors have lead to a
product that has optimum quality and functionality.

How to install

Through research, various methods of installation

were found. The method that was selected and
implemented in the design proved to be successful.

Aesthetics and
Appearance

The final aesthetics of the wall art design are finished

to a high quality. The traditional fabric dyeing

technique of Balinese Batik has been used, as it is a

technique that reflects the theme of the Balinese
culture and suits the style and colour of the interior
living space. All of the components included in the
design are complex and intricately detailed.
Materials

The selected materials utilised throughout the design

project

were

outlined. A variety of both natural and synthetic fibres

of varying weights and strengths have been used.
These have been selected to reinforce the notion of
ecology and further ease portability.
Quality

The quality of the finishings have been completed to a

high level. The stitch length is fairly consistent across
the three wall hangings. Additionally, an even colour
penetration has been achieved across all hand dyed
fabric. Furthermore, the overall durability and quality
of the wall art designs ensure that the lifespan of the
wall hangings have a life beyond five years.

Budget and Timing

The timeframe set to complete this design project was

twelve weeks. The project was completed successfully
within the specified time frame. Additionally, the $600
budget that was outlined in the preparation phase by
the client and exhibition was successfully met with the
cost of the product coming in at $528.14.
