a. The given scenario falls under the category of the Basic research. This is because as
mention in the scenario it is not to solve the specific problem faced by managers but, here
the researcher will look whether at the time of stock market volatility and slowing down
of business acquisitions of the fast growing company is riskier or not. The research will
provide the knowledge for the larger organizations like Coca cola about the acquisition
decisions they are going to make. Conducting this research will most probably include
the reviewing various articles published in the related filed, doing various secondary and
primary data collections.
Scenario 3
a. The scenario 2 about the university professor wanting to analyze the reason for
absenteeism of employees in organization falls under the category of applied research.
Here, a company has employed the professor as the research consultant. This research
will help identify the reason and solve the specific problem of the company related to its
employees absenteeism.
Scenario 3
a. The research about the most effective way for an organization to recover from a service
failure falls under the basic research category. This is because this research going to be
done with the objective of providing guideline which is generalized across a variety of
service industries. This research is not about current problem that the organization is
facing now, but more about creating knowledge about what can be done in variety of
service industry when it fails.
