1.

Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to define the inspection, testing method and
criteria for installation work of instrument panels and junction boxes to achieve
mechanical completion.

instrument panels and junction boxes.

Construction Managers / Engineer in Charges are responsible for implementing


this procedure in their area.

HOD, QMD is responsible for maintaining this procedure.

DCC is the custodian of this document.

6.

Methodology

6.1

General Requirements

6.1.1

All installation / construction / testing works shall be carried out in compliance with
Safety Manual.

6.1.2

Inspection shall be conducted by the Site Instrument Engineer or be coordinated


with the vendor's representative. Verification of inspection and checklists to be
recorded in Form EPCMD-2-QM00-FMT-CI-004 and signed by the Site Instrument
Engineer.

6.1.3

All Instrument panels & Junction boxes should be supplied with relevant test
certificates for Inspection purposes. All Test equipment shall have a valid
calibration certificate.

6.2
6.2.1

Equipment Inspection
Prior to removal to site, the equipment will be checked against the

specification

and drawings to ensure conformity. Where equipment is to be installed in a


hazardous area, particular attention will be paid to the certification to ensure it is
suitable for installation.
6.2.2

Particular attention shall be paid to panels which have panel facia mounted
instruments. Where these panels are sealed to prevent the

ingress of moisture

or dust, they shall not be disturbed unless damage is observed.


6.2.3

When damage is observed, a thorough inspection shall be carried out and shall be
reported immediately.

6.2.4

After inspection the equipment will be resealed to prevent ingress of moisture or


dust. Desiccant bags shall be checked / replaced where required.

6.3

Installation Inspection

6.3.1

Prior to installation, the location will be inspected to ensure the civil / structural
works are complete; the area is clean, free from debris and any obstructions.

6.3.2

Base plate, floor fixings, mounting structures etc. will be checked for level and
verticality and location. The fixing points shall be checked against their position on
the respective panels / junction boxes.

6.3.3

Before installing in position, the panel and junction box will be opened up for
cleanliness and to ensure no foreign bodies are present. Dust will be removed
using a vacuum cleaner or rags as appropriate.

6.3.4

Installation will be inspected to ensure the equipment is vertical and fixing bolts
tightened.

6.3.5

The complete assembly will be checked to ensure alignment and level after
tightening of the bolts. Bolt material shall be used as per drawing / specification.

6.3.6

The equipment arrangement will be inspected and checked against the relevant
layout and general arrangement drawings.

6.3.7

The panel / junction box shall be inspected to ensure all identifying labels and tags
are installed in accordance with the schedule.

6.3.8

Interconnecting wiring of the panel / junction box shall be checked against the
detailed wiring drawing.

6.3.9

Fuses and protective devices shall be checked against the relevant panel schedule.

6.3.10

Earthing of the panel / junction boxes will be checked to ensure that it is


in accordance with Standard Drawing.

6.3.11

Panel doors and detachable covers shall be checked to ensure proper closure and
sealing.

6.3.12

All cable terminations shall be checked for correctness and identified correctly.

6.3.13

The above results shall be recorded in Form EPCMD-2-QM00-FMT-CI-004 and


signed by the Site Instrument Engineer.

6.3.14

A suitable name plate shall be externally provided on all junction boxes.

Junction

boxes

and

local

panels

shall

be

installed

so

that

they

are

permanently accessible.
6.3.16

Junction boxes and local panels supports shall be painted as required by


specification.

6.3.17

All JB locations should be as per drawings and standards
