ABSTRACT
Background: Based on data, coverage of iodized salt in Payangan Primary Health Care still
under USI (42.7%) with the lowest coverage in the Buahan Kaja village (26.9%). Absence of
iodized salt in the market is mostly reasons. From 18 merchants in Buahan KajaVillage, only 3
merchants selling iodized salt.
Methods: This study was aimed to determine level of knowledge, attitudes and behavior about
iodized salt of salt traders in Buahan Kaja village. It was a descriptive study with all subjects of
18 merchants whom selling salt. Then, the data were analyzed by using univariate statistics.
Result: The results showed that the level of knowledge about iodized salt based on age and
education mostly less (66.7%), especially aspects of how the storage of salt correctly and
consequences if they do not consume salt. Half of respondents have a good attitude (50%) of
iodized salt, especially in the aspect of the desire to sell iodized salt and explain the benefits of
iodized salt. Only 5 respondents (27.8%) who had iodized salt in households, and only 4
respondents
used
iodized
salt
correctly
(75%).
Conclusion: The merchants who sell iodized salt are very less, although that has already saved
the salt and conssumed it correctly. It was lack of knowledge about iodized salt, although the
attitude of merchants on iodized salt was better.We suggested to the Payangan Primary Health
Care due to nutrition programs and provide counseling and discussion about iodized salt on the
merchants, to improve conssummed iodized salt by the people of Payangan district.
