DBAE ART INQUIRY AREAS:

Art Production: Students (create) a depiction of the world with their handprint on it,
and one way they wish the world would change.
TEACHING STRATEGIES:
Introduction
We are going to start off with a song to get the students engaged in the lesson we will be
teaching.
We will print out the lyrics so the students can follow along with the video we will show.
Questions: Drive thinking, learning, and engagement.
What does being kind to the Earth look like?
How can you reduce, reuse, or recycle?
????
Learning Activities: Write a procedural set of steps.
The teachers will begin by introducing the idea that we are all in this together, and we
need to work together to achieve a better tomorrow. The students will each be given a
sheet of lyrics for the song Weve Got the Whole World in Our Hands, and will learn
how to sing along to it (possible harmonica inclusion?). The students will then be given a
paper plate and be instructed to design their plate to look like the Earth. After finishing
their Earth, the students will trace both of their hands and cut them out. On one of the
hands, the students will write one thing they can do as an individual to better the world,
and on the other hand, the students will write one thing that their community can do to
make the world a better place.

Closure: Review the learning targets for the day and refocus on what is important.
After everybody has completed their Earth being held by their hands (and if we have
time!) we will have the students come up with one way they as a class can help the
Earth.
The students would be asked about why they choose the colors they did, and the shapes
they did as well. We sill have a short discussion on the experiences they drew from to
complete their project as well.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
If there are any students that need accommodations, we will help them when the time
comes. We choose this lesson because we thought it was simple enough for the whole
class to complete, yet could be changed into a complex assignment depending on the
words that the students wrote on their hands.
There will also be support in the room that students can ask for help from.

VOCABULARY:

Recycle: a process in which items can be used again

Reduce: Trying to use less resources
Diversity: Many different kinds of people, animals, or objects that can work
together

Term: Definition
EVALUATION:
