Model United Nation Constitution and Bylaws

ARTICLE I: NAME & PURPOSE


Section A: Name The name of this club shall be Model United Nation
Section B: Purpose The purpose of this club shall be:
1. To encourage public speaking and political study based on actual
procedures of the United Nations
2. To cultivate mental toughness and help members break through their
self-imposed limits
3. To improve negotiation, debating skills, effective research, and writing
skills
4. To motivate a full understanding of and involvement with the actual UN
ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP & DUES
Section A: Eligibility - Membership shall be open to anyone who passes
the selection process sponsored by Model United Nation club in the
Stevenson community.
Section B: Active Membership Executive Committee will ratify ACTIVE
membership every trimester during planning meeting and members are
expected to participate in all club fundraisers and put forth the appropriate
effort in order to be eligible to attend conferences and run for office.
ARTICLE III: OFFICERS
Section A: Officers The officers shall be a President, Co-President, and
Secretary.
Section B: Eligibility Officers must be students and ACTIVE members
of the club.
Section C: Election The officers shall be elected by the precedent
officers
Section D: Term The officers shall serve for one school year
Section E: Vacancy If a vacancy occurs in the office of President, the
Co-President shall assume the office for the remainder of the term and
vacancies in any other office shall be filled by a special election.
ARTICLE IV: DUTIES OF OFFICERS
Section A: President it shall be the duty of the President to:

Preside at meetings

Vote in case of a tie

Represent the club in any official capacity

Coordinate all communication with school entities

set the agenda for regular meetings

attend at least 80 percent of all club meetings

Section B: Vice-President It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:

Preside in the absence of the President

Serve as accountability officer

Coordinate meetings

keep track of and manage money with the treasurer

help the president in all matters and in planning meetings and


teaching new members

assume charge in the absence of the president

attend at least 80 percent of all club meetings

Section C: Secretary It shall be the duty of the Secretary to:


Receive all funds and process Request for Payment, Deposit
Slip, and Officer Signature Forms.
Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and
make reports as directed.

ARTICLE V: MEETINGS
Section A: Meetings Regular meetings shall be held every almost every
Wednesday during the school year for an hour unless a lack of business
dictates that a meeting is unnecessary, and extra training and mock
sessions will occur on weekends, unless otherwise notified. Mock debates
and teaching procedure should be the focal point of meetings. Failure to
participate in mock debates and regular meetings may mean that a club
member is ineligible to attend conferences at the advisor's discretion.
Section B: Special Meeting Special meetings may be called by the
President with the approval of the Executive Committee.
Section C: Quorum A quorum shall consist of half of the Active
membership.

ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE


Section A: Responsibility Manage the Model UN Club by helping
organizing meetings and mock conferences, communicating with advisor
and the school

Section B: Membership This committee shall consist of the officers as


listed in Article III and the faculty advisors. Membership is granted by
precedent committee or appointed by the President
Section C: Meetings This committee shall meet at as dictated by the
President to organize and plan future activities.
ARTICLE VII: ADVISOR
Section A: Duties The responsibilities of the faculty advisor shall be to:
Meet on a regular basis with the leader of the student club to
discuss upcoming meetings, upcoming events and problems of the
club.

Attend regular meetings and sessions

Assist in the organization of travels

Assist the club treasurer in managing the financial account and


monetary activities
Inform club members of those factors that constitute
unacceptable behavior on the part of the club members, and the
possible consequence of said behaviors.

ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS


Section A: Selection these bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds
(2/3) majority vote of the chapter membership.
Section B: Notice All members shall receive advance notice of the
proposed amendment at a week before the meeting.
