MASTERPLAN & AMENITIES

MASTERPLAN
Our masterplan is an important tool for communicating Aurangas
development vision. The integrated masterplan process has been led
by award-winning Melbourne-based urban designer Steve Thorne of
DesignUrban Pty Ltd alongside the Auranga design team.
The team has worked closely with Auckland Council to secure its support,
and undertaken robust technical analysis to ensure the masterplan is
deliverable, profitable, distinctive and successful.

Seven key urban design priorities define the Auranga Masterplan

based on domestic and international authorities on urban
design best practice. The key priorities are:
1

Maximise connections and

frontage to the coastal edge

Development that maximises access and visual

connections with the coast will contribute to a
stronger sense of distinctive identity in Auranga,
promote more walking and cycling, encourage
higher property values over time, and encourage
more use of the coast and its amenity values.

Promote mixed and

walkable neighbourhoods

A range of housing densities provided through a

well connected street network that provides safe,
direct and convenient routes for pedestrians will
encourage more socialising and healthy activity in
Auranga.

Deliver distinctive and

memorable public experiences

Public spaces are important to help meet the

health and recreational needs of residents, but
they can also be focal points of community and
social life.

Define and coherently lay out

public and private spaces

In Auranga, streets, blocks, open spaces and

buildings will be laid out to clearly distinguish
between what is secluded and private, and what is
well overlooked, populated and public.

Provide a legible and easily navigable

urban structure

People feel more comfortable when they feel

confident and in control of where they are and
where they are going. Visitors to Auranga need
to be able to easily orient themselves based on
being able to readily identify landmarks
and features.

Maximise diversity of typology

Layouts which allow for variation in house types

and sizes are preferable. Design variety is better
able to provide for demographic diversity and
cater for a range of lifestyles.

The ability for locals to meet their

daily needs

Creating a strong, healthy and thriving community

depends on a diversity of land uses including
dedicated employment, community and open
space areas as well as residential uses. A range of
densities including more intensive terrace housing
and apartment units enable greater self-sufficiency
and can stimulate service opportunities such as cafs,
dining, convenience retail and community services.

AMENITIES
At the heart of Auranga there will be open shared spaces that residents will love.
These include easy all tide access to the estuary from the local jetty, a
playground for the kids, a village square and a dedicated exercise and play
area for dogs. Boardwalks, bridges and paths will provide safe and easy
access to the local sports fields.

Jetty
For fishing with the kids or to use row
boats and kayaks so you can enjoy the unique
estuarine environment of the Manukau Harbour.
Dog play and exercise area
Where furry friends can run, fetch, roll and
enjoy unrestrictive open space dedicated
entirely for them.
Playground
Abundant opportunities for children (ages?)
to let off steam and enjoy outdoor play with
their friends in a safe and exciting environment.
Boardwalks
Providing access to enjoy nature up close while
the natural environment thrives and flourishes
around you.

A welcoming place to meet, entertain and enjoy
surrounded by an eclectic mix of edible fruit trees,
native plants, flowers and herb gardens.

is home to the Drury United Football Club and
Drury United Cricket Club. Less than 10 minutes
away the Karaka Sports Complex caters for rugby,
baseball, netball, tennis and cricket and also hosts
annual events like the Karaka Vintage Day and
Taste Franklin.
