Goal or Outcome:

After this activity, students will have a better understanding of the


purpose of the branches of government in the US and the methods
used for keeping each other under a balance.

Outcomes:

a. Identify the differences between the 3 branches of government.


b. understand the function each of the branches has and what they are
responsible for
c. Figure out the way in which each branch keeps each other in
balance.

Assessment Plan:

If presented with a specific branch of government, the student will be


able to determine the function and purpose of that specific branch.
The student will know what power the branch has and which other
branch keeps it in balance.

Activity Design:

We will first discuss what the branches of


government are, how they were created, and
what the purpose of having the different
branches is. Afterwards, we will have activities to
see what the advantages of having each of these
branches are.

Class starter and lesson connection:


Ill have students create a concept map for
themselves which covers their purpose, their
balances, and their frequencies of election.

Teacher and student activities:


Students will be assigned to create their concept
maps individually and will be allowed to ask
questions and work with a partner to complete all
the required components, all students do have to
complete their own concept map however.

Technology Connection:
The use of phones and other internet resources
will allow them to see how each of the branches
of government were made and what each of
them is responsible for.

The concept map can be used as a way for
students to figure out how the branches of
government work.
The concept map is a great way to help students
develop a method of organization for their own
learning skills when it comes to remembering
how the branches of government work.
