LESSON OUTCOMES AND INDICATORS


Overview
This lesson enables students to make connection between the marketing process
and business. It outlines the 4Ps strategy. It also explores the idea of
globalization and how does globalisation really affect us on a day-to-day basis.
Rationale
Marketing is more than selling a product. It is the whole process of providing
goods and services to satisfy the needs and wants of consumers at the right
place and time, using the right promotions. Globalisation has enabled many
businesses to grow huge, establishing themselves in many countries throughout
the world. Its strengthening economic ties between nations of the world, and
the resulting trade and investment opportunities. Yet, there are impacts as a

result of globalisation.
At the end of this lesson, students can:
Define and explain marketing using the 4Ps strategy
Define globalisation
Describe and explain the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation
Explain how globalization affect business on a day-to-day basis

Shopping Centre for todays lesson.

Teacher Inform students of the learning outcome for the unit and todays lesson
(see above). Remind students next lesson will be display of their individual
poster incorporating different elements of a business in a sport context.

Brainstorm students what they know about marketing and globalisation.
Each to write down 2 things they know relating to each of the words.

N- New Information - PART 3 (TIME ESTIMATES: 10-15

As the class tour the shopping centre, class discussion Engage the
students in a brief discussion about marketing in the centre.

4Ps strategy Product, Price, Place, Promotion


Students to complete an activity sheet answering questions:
List 2 advertising strategies used in the centre. Give 1 example for each
strategy.
Make a list of all the shop names as students toured the centre. List of the
shop that sells overseas products. Of the number of shop listed, how
many of these sell only Australian products? Draw a graph to represent
the data collected?
What does globalisation mean for business in Australia?

Successful marketing needs to involve the following elements:
Research gathering information from potential customers about their
wants and needs
Publicity providing information about the new product or service
Promotions assisting the launch of products and services (e.g. events)

road safety programs)
Evaluation finding out the success of the product or campaign
Globalisation
Benefits economic growth, encourage free trade (resources are used
efficiently to produce goods and services)
Downside can create unfair working conditions for many workers in
poor countries. Large transnational corporations may shift their
production factories to poorer countries, where they can hire cheaper
labour. Workers in home country may lose their jobs.

Find a space in the centre where students can complete an ICT Group
work in a small group of 2-3, examine the Muzz Buzz website on the
http://australia.muzzbuzz.com/ Share the findings with the class on:
What market segment do you think it is aimed? Give reasons for your
answer.
Make a list of the most outstanding characteristics of the marketing that is
used.
Discuss the impact of Muzz Buzz globalisation mean for Australia

G Revisit the Goal - PART 5 (TIME ESTIMATES: 5-10


minutes)
Randomly select 1-2 groups to presents their findings to the remainder of the
class.
Teacher facilitate some reflective discussion through high order questioning
and collaborative group discussion.
Closing the lesson
This lesson wraps up the unit. Ask students what they have learned throughout
the unit. Ask if they have any concern or questions regarding next lesson display
of posters.

PART 6 (TIME ESTIMATES: remaining time)

This part of the lesson can be completed as homework


Students to work on the individual poster (A1) and prepared to answer questions
regarding their displays.
Poster should communicate individual understanding of:
What is a business? Types, elements, finance, human resources
Marketing and business
Business and globalisation
Business and individual physical and mental health

ASSESSMENTS
Formative assessment to throughout the lesson to summarize students
understanding of the nature of business and describe the main types of
businesses.
