Report of Results for Load Testing AASHTO M306

Product: Manhole Retaining Rings & Cover Assemblies
TEC Services Project No. 14-1147
TEC Services Lab No. 14-978-1

Dear Mr. Vaisvil:

Testing Engineering and Consulting Services, Inc. (TEC Services) is an independent testing
laboratory with a quality system accredited by AASHTO R18, ANS/ISO/IEC 17025:2005, and the
Army Corp of Engineers. TEC Services is pleased to submit this report of our test results for the
submitted cast in place manhole retaining rings and covers in December of 2014. The purpose of
our services was to proof load the assemblies to 40,000 lbf. and 50,000 lbf. in accordance with
AASTHO M306. Our services were performed in accordance with the terms and conditions of our
Service Agreement (TEC 14-1147). The test results only pertain to the samples tested.

The manhole assemblies, as shown in Photo 1, were tested in accordance with Section 6 of
AASHTO M306 Standard Specification for Drainage, Sewer, Utility, and related Castings. The
assemblies were placed in the test frame and the load was applied to a 9 x 9 x 0.75 steel plate
centered on top of the manhole cover using a 30 ton hydraulic ram. In order to allow for sufficient
room to the deflect blocks were placed under the outer ring to raise the height of the assemblies.
The rate of loading was maintained between 100 1,000 lbf/sec until reaching a proof load of
40,000 lbf, which was held constant for a duration of 1 minute. At the conclusion of the proof
loading the specimens were inspected for signs of cracking or permanent deformation. This
process was then repeated on each assembly to a proof load of 50,000 lbf. Neither test assembly
showed signs of cracking or permanent deformation when proof loaded to 50,000 lbf. Test results
are reported in Table 1. The correlation curve for the hydraulic ram as well as photos of the test
configurations are attached to this report. Based on the results to date the CC 605-2 & CC712-2
both meet the requirements of Section 6 per AASHTO M306 for an H-25 load rating.
