Research Paper and Poster Presentation Guidelines:

RESEARCH PAPER: MLA STYLE: 5 Pages Total, Including Title and


Reference Page

Include an Introduction (overview of what you will be talking about in
your paper)
This is the meat of the paper
Written in paragraph style, with indentations for each new paragraph or
idea
Must be cited/referenced throughout (giving the author credit)

Rewrite/summarize the idea in your own words


Put exact quotes in quotation marks or italics (no more than 10% of
the paper)
You need at least 5 different references, which may be a variety of
internet/Google references, journals, magazines, newspapers, books
referenced in the MLA style (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/)
Include a Conclusion (summary of your paper)

Author last name first, in alphabetical order (MLA is the easiest
referencing style)
At least 5 references
The paper must be your own work! Copying and pasting is plagiarism and
is a violation of rules. Plagiarism will result in a zero.
Your paper will be sent in electronically and will be put through a
plagiarism checker software program
Paper: Double-spaced or Single-spaced
Font: No larger than 12-point-font
May use New Times Roman, Arial or Verdana
Grammar and Spelling: You need to review and spell-check your
document before you turn it in.
There is a free computer application called Grammarly that can help
you check your paper for spelling, grammar, punctuation and plagiarism:
http://www.grammarly.com

If you add any pictures, graphs, illustrations, they must be added


addendums to the end of the paper, in addition to the required 5 pages
total.

POSTER PRESENTATION:
Your poster presentation will be a visual presentation based on your
research paper. This is the part you will present to the class.
You need to create your poster presentation on a tri-fold poster, with
visuals and with written information. They sell them at the Dollar Store.
Here are just a couple of examples out of many out there to see, but I
prefer this type of layout:

You will present/read your findings in front of the class on the due date, so
that others in the class may learn from your research and we will walk
around as a class and observe your poster presentation, at which time
students may ask you questions about your poster and your
research/findings.
This is a casual presentation presented at your table/desk or lab bench
where we will come to you and you do not have to stand at the front of
the class during your presentation.
An oral presentation during the course is a requirement of the state of
TX and of EPCC
