Class: U.S. History (11th grade)

State-Adopted Content Standards this lesson will address:

11.5.3 - Examine the passage of the eighteenth amendment to the Constitution and the Volstead
Act (Prohibition).
Common Core Literacy Standard:
Writing Standards Grades 11-12, 2. Write informative/explanatory text to examine and convey
complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection,
organization, and analysis of content.

ISTE Standard:
1. Facilitate and inspire student learning; 2. Design and develop digital age learning
experiences and assessments; 3. Model digital age work and learning.

Lesson Objective:
We will be able to evaluate the impact of the Volstead Act and the eighteenth amendment on
society in the 1920s by achieving a 50 or higher on a glogster online poster according to the
rubric.

Pre- Assessment:

I would first ask students a few questions about what they know about prohibition. After we
would play a quick game of Kahoot with visuals just to check on their background knowledge of
the subject.

Lesson Summary:
(EDI) After Kahoot, I will start the instruction by focusing on the main vocabulary words. The
four main words the students will learn are Temperance Movement, 18th Amendment, Volstead
Act, and Prohibition. Using a Blendspace interactive presentation I will cover all the main
vocabulary words in detail, topic introduction, and youtube video. After my presentation which
would include a few CFUs via pair share, they students would then et on their chrome books and
watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXFbQKz3anw (Detecting Lies and staying true). I
would explain to the students this is important to understand when doing any type of historical
research or projects, because I expect them to cite their sources. This would be leading into my
Summative Assignment.

Summative Assignment:
Students will create a glogster poster focusing on a key vocabulary word
http://edu.glogster.com/?ref=com. I will of course give them an example of a perfect 80 point
glogster poster. They are to base their poster off that one in terms of organization and
expectations. They would then do more research on the vocabulary word that I introduced to
them. The purpose of the video is to help them find information that is credible and set a
precedent for writing papers and other online projects. They will need to know how to get good
information and how to prove it is credible. After doing the research poster on glogster they

would turn it into me, so I can use it as an assessment and check for understanding both my
objective and the ISTE standard and digital citizenship as a whole.
