Alyan and the walker!

Learning priority: Increasing independence

For the last few weeks at An-Nur,

Alyan has been increasing his
confidence when using the walker.
The walker gives Alyan a safe way to
increase his ability to manoeuvre his
way around the centre
independently. Because of this,
Alyan while in the walker is now able
to manoeuvre his way around the
inside of the centre, and also
outside.

While Alyan was in the walker he seemed determined to explore all aspects of the centres
environment, while doing this Alyan would occasionally find himself stuck, however one of
the children or one of the teachers was always sure to help him out.

Through this new interaction, Alyan is able to communicate with the other children and the
teachers most of this communication is shown through Alyan looking so happy to be in the
walker, when ever he was in there Alyan always had a huge grin!

While Alyan has been in the walker, his

learning has been connected to Te
Whariki and Alyans learning goal of
belonging. Having an increase in
independence can help to affirm Alyans
place in the centre, and ensure that Alyan
knows that he belongs.
