(Here comes a lion, Father
Oh yes, it's a lion
We're going to conquer
A lion and a leopard come to this open place.)
Opening verse of the lyrics of the song, Circle of Life, from the soundtrack of the film, The Lion King.
So what is the Circle of Life? Here are some definitions.
Nature's way of taking and giving back life to earth. It symbolizes the universe being sacred and
divine. It represents the infinite nature of energy, meaning if something dies it gives new life to
another. Collins Dictionary
Life is represented as a circle because it is a constant loop. People are constantly born and are
constantly dying. There is a spiritual element to the circle, however, in the idea that the end of one
existence is not necessarily the end of life altogether. Many religions and philosophies believe that
through a certain life path, another life (usually a better one) awaits after humans leave this one.
Thus, when humans die, they are not dead but merely reborn to begin another circle of life. In
Buddhism, desire, hate and ignorance are at the centre of the circle, and humans are forever trying to
circumvent them. The Buddhist wheel of life also represents two ascending and descending half
circles to represent that not everyone is able to overcome life's challenges. When this happens, one
must begin again. This concept is not completely exclusive from the Christian notion of being born
again. Christians believe that before anyone can ascend to Heaven, they must be reborn through
Christ. reference.com
The Circle of Life in conventional wisdom refers generally to lifes ecosystem a world of predator
and prey; symbiosis and antagonism; flora and fauna. Each of these feeds the other. Predator attacks
prey. It needs to sustain itself, its hunger and yearnings, so it lunges at its hapless quarry and when it
is successful, it settles down to a great repast. Done, it yields to the alluring call of slumber. Over time
slumber and illness cause predator to yield to the eventuality of death. Death throws up carcass which
becomes fare for scavenger and soil. Scavenger also becomes cadaver at death and the same cycle
continues. Soil gets richer and throws up lush vegetable which herbivore devours with relish. And
herbivore suffers the same fate of predator and prey. The constant seems to be soil and the mantra
reigns dust to dust. Such is the circle of life.
Life is more than a straight line, more than a dash. Life started ages ago, from the time of creation,
from the first living organism, organism begetting organism, man begetting man. And life has
continued to go on and on. Life started from the first breath. That breath continues till this day not
relenting; it continues to reproduce. And so when the neonate descends or is taken out of the womb
that breath transfers into its lungs and, in verve, it lets out a loud yell. Life doesnt diminish, it expands
and gets larger. Yet, life is in a balance. It never gets out of proportion. It continues to prune and
prune; each part of life, part of the pruning process.
Life exists in different forms in man and animal, tree and shrub. In man, it exists in different shades
or race Caucasoid, Negroid, Mongoloid or Australoid. No one shade or race can claim ownership of
life or the other. No one shade or race can claim to the better because they all derive from the same
stem of life. Its breath is colourless, its sap is red. When breath combines with sap, sap turns a bright

red and when there is no breath, a dark red. The one major difference of race is the content of
melanin in the skin.
So why does race infuriate or detest race? Enlightenment? Or the lack of it? Or is it just survival? For
the sake of discussion, lets all agree that we all derive from the same stem of life. Enlightenment
means that we all realise we all come from and therefore can take advantage of the offerings of the
environment in which we find ourselves or discover.
I have watched the Caucasian at work. I have noticed the diligence with which he applies himself to
his work. His life is ordered. He is spurred by a long list of values: Authenticity, Achievement,
Adventure, Authority, Autonomy, Balance, Beauty, Boldness, Compassion, Challenge, Citizenship,
Community, Competency, Contribution, Creativity, Curiosity, Determination, Fairness, Faith, Fame,
Friendships, Fun, Growth, Happiness, Honesty, Humour, Influence, Inner Harmony, Justice, Kindness,
Knowledge, Leadership, Learning, Love, Loyalty, Meaningful Work, Openness, Optimism, Peace,
Pleasure, Poise, Popularity, Recognition, Religion, Reputation, Respect, Responsibility, Security, SelfRespect, Service, Spirituality, Stability, Success, Status, Trustworthiness, Wealth, Wisdom, among a
whole host of others. The attainment of these qualities gives him that sense of accomplishment. He is
hardly satisfied; he just wants to get better and better. Sometimes, he goes on overdrive and this
informs his malevolent side.
The Negro, or more pointedly, the African, is driven by rhythm, by a pulse, by an inner force which
drives his sense of worth. He is driven by philosophy, a poetic categorisation of his milieu. He asserts
the presence of the ethereal and ascribes all unexplainable phenomena to it. He is content with the
domination of his immediate environment. If he is threatened, he defends his stronghold stridently and
if he loses battle, he moves on quickly to yet another virgin country. Because of his sense of survival,
the African has a strong sense of community, knowing that if he must thrive under lifes severities, he
cannot conquer alone. This community has become the mechanism by which the African forms his
sense of priority. These can be quickly divided into the two basic principles of good and bad. Yet, over
time the simple values of good and bad have been threatened by the infusion of extraneous customs.
I am African and my bias is with the African.
The combination of cultural values whether Caucasoid or Negroid in nature lends to both the
corruption and improvement of man. Yet, the acceptance of these values can be considered important
to peaceful co-existence where among both races there is commonality.
Previously suppressed particulars point to a dominant Negroid global civilisation which petered out to
certain unknown events which caused this race to diminish and become reduced to tenuous
innocence. This fragile incorruptibility has overtime with the connivance of evil dominants within the
African country (they call it continent) allowed the infusion of strange values which have lent to the
increasing individuality and strange liberalism of the individual mind.
Should one be pleased by this? Yes and no. Anything that improves the wellbeing of man is good. But
anything that tears apart the community of people cannot be too good especially when that
communality is better than what the individuality of man offers. For example, we never had housing or
food problems in Africa until the individualistic concepts of laissez-faire came into our economy.
Housing and food used to be abundant and basically almost free of charge because when one part of
community suffered, all the community suffered with it. However, the communality of scarce resources
meant that when there were unforeseen phenomena like drought and famine, there was widespread
starvation and strife. This has been the real struggle of the African.
It has been over a century since the Berlin conference. The powers of the time have stormed and
pillaged the African country and in their exit have left behind a strange, uselessness. The evil ones
have continued to dominate and make the ways of African become increasingly obtuse. These people
have been in power for over 50 years, in most cases, and nothing great has happened to the African
civilisation or economy. No one African state can really declare its full freedom from the shackles of
the infusion of so-called Western ideals which should be great for the African country if perfectly

understood and executed but in the mire of both systems are absolute garbage. It might just be that
we all just need to go back to our simple communality as confusing as it may be to the outer world. At
least, we will understand and improve ourselves better. No matter how one tries no mystification, no
matter how alluring, can really alter the real circle of life.
