Proposed Recommendations from

2009 – 2010 Curriculum Council

Visual Arts:
THE TASK FORCE SHOULD…
• Review curriculum and make revisions based on standards and research
• Investigate ways to incorporate the use of technology at all levels
• Investigate alternate ways of delivering art (i.e., virtual tours?)
• Investigate ways to integrate art with other content areas
• Investigate ways to tap into community resources (i.e., LCTI, business professionals)
• Investigate possibility of including/sharing Visual Communication in Art curriculum (i.e.,
CAD, InDesign, web design, Photoshop, etc.)
• Investigate restructuring Art program to meet student needs (portfolios, exposure to multiple
art forms, etc.)
• Assess the success of meeting curriculum goals on a yearly basis at all levels
• Investigate creation and continuation of Art “Club” at the different building levels
• Look to include awareness of Art as a viable career choice in the curriculum
• Investigate a way to separate the fine arts dept. into two different subgroups and have
representation for each subgroup.

Mathematics:
THE TASK FORCE SHOULD INVESTIGATE….
• Review curriculum and make revisions based on Anchors and Eligible Content at all levels.
• Investigate the use of alternate scheduling options to deliver math, along with other subjects,
over a full year in the HS
• Investigate the use of summer assignments/programs/remediation at all levels for math
• Investigate methods to remediate students consistently throughout the year, including
possible course requirements, at all levels
• Investigate the appropriate developmental age for learning/using calculators
• Investigate formative assessment methods to drive instruction and determine appropriate
placement of students in math at the HS level
• Investigate the development of a HS math course to prepare students for PSSA tests
• Investigate the use of alternate intervention programs for basic math facts at the elementary
level
• Investigate the possibility of keeping math first thing in the morning for elementary students

FCS/Business/Technology:
THE TASK FORCE SHOULD…
• Review curriculum and make revisions based on Standards at all levels.
• Investigate a variety of options for staff to meet together regularly across levels to develop
consistency in curriculum
• Investigate the addition of a greater expansion of course offerings at the HS in the areas of
FCS/Bus/Tech
• Investigate ways to appropriately differentiate instruction to address multiple ability levels of
students, including pre-assessing student abilities
• Investigate alternative scheduling models at the middle level for related arts courses
• Investigate methods to deliver formal technology instruction at the elementary level
• Investigate appropriate instruction and competencies for technology at the elementary level
• Investigate ways to appropriately upgrade hardware and software at all levels, including the
use of open-source software and alternative funding sources
