Motivation statement (100-350 words):

I am writing in order to apply for the scholarship of Erasmus Mundus mobility project
HERMES and take a Phd program during a Spring semester offered by Tallinn University called
Studies of Cultures (English Literatures and Cultures ).
Having been a student of English Philology since 2010, I have found myself totally drawn to
literature. This love motivated me to continue my studying with a more concrete field and in 2014
I started my Master Degree program called English Literature at Tbilisi State University. During
my studies I have attended not only English, but also the lectures about Italian, Spanish, Latin
American and Georgian literature and improved my knowledge in these interesting fields. For my
master thesis I chose a wonderful English writer Aldous Huxley and I wrote about his early novels.
I successfuly finished the course but I had no wish to stop studying literature. There were loads of
intersting authors I wanted to get know and research their studies. So, I started a Phd program in
English Literature and now I am writing about a female English author Doris Lessing- one of the
most interesting and powerful women-a woman who got a Nobel Prize for her masterly written
books. I am happy to have an opportunity to study her novels, plays and poems.
Therefore, you can imagine how delighted I was when I found the above mentioned Doctoral
Program. It seemed to have been created specially for me and for my thesis. Studing literatures and
cultures in the country like Estonia, which has a strong historical tradition in this field is an
opportunity that I would never like to miss. Especially if we take into a considiration the fact that
finding a project that focuses on humanities is not easy these days due to the fact that technological
sciences and law have become dominant recently.
Becoming an exchange student of Erasmus Mundus and studying abroad is definitely a great
chance and I would be honoured to use this fascinating opportunity given by Erasmus Mundus and
its particular project HERMES. I believe that the courses offered by Tallinn University will help
me to find out more about writing a Doctoral thesis. Also, this wonderful experience will help me
to broaden my vision and to become a successful young scientist.
Personally, I have all the features which are necessary for a good scientist. . I am a sociable and
1

open-minded person and get on well with people around me. Besides, being a responsible and
reliable student helps me be respected by groupmates and professors. I am also an active student
and always eager to take part in the interesting conferences and competitions. I would appreciate a
chance to represent my country abroad and acquire new skills and competencies.
