Young Womens Trust supports and represents women aged 16-30 struggling to live on low or no pay in
England and Wales and who are at risk of being trapped in poverty. The charity offers free coaching and
personalised advice on job applications, conducts research, runs campaigns and works with young women
to build confidence and advocate for fair financial futures.
With over a million young women facing a lifetime of financial, social and emotional disadvantage because
they dont have a job or are in low paid, insecure work, the need for our work couldnt be more important.
As our Media Officer you will play a crucial role in making sure that young womens voices are heard, in
supporting our influencing work and in raising the profile of the charity. This is an exciting opportunity to
join a small dynamic team based in central London, with lots of scope to work across the range of the
charitys activities.

Overall Purpose
Key Activities
Identify opportunities for the organisation to promote its message and raise the profile of its work
Build and maintain positive relationships with key journalists and press/media staff in partnership
organisations
Development and delivery of the organisations media relations work including:
o Drafting and distributing press releases promoting the organisations work
o Drafting articles, blogs and letters to promote the views of the charity
o Devising creative means to engage young women and other stakeholders with the work of YWT
o Writing and promoting materials to raise awareness of service delivery and fundraising activity
Ensure swift and effective responses to press enquiries
Oversee and manage the press and media relations work at organisational events
Support young women to be spokespeople for the Young Womens Trust, and to share their
experiences
Monitor news and current affairs to alert senior team to all relevant items, advising on when and how
we should respond
Work closely with Digital Engagement Officer and others to ensure integrated and consistent external
communications
Supporting campaigning activity and other YWT activity as needed, including through digital media
Experience
Proven experience of press and media relations in the UK and track record of securing national press
coverage (ideally working in or with the charitable/not for profit/public sector)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to convert complex messages into
simple accessible language
Proven ability to develop clear media stories from complex organisational messages
Experience of building relationships with journalists
Organised, flexible, able to work accurately and quickly under pressure and to deadlines
Excellent news sense and able to generate media stories and ideas
Experience of organising media events and promoting products and campaigns
Experience of promoting a complex message to the media in a crowded marketplace
Experience of using digital media to communicate effectively
Experience of sensitively supporting people, including vulnerable people, to share their stories and
experiences
