On the 11th Hour of the 11th Day
of the 11th Month
Veterans Day Honoring
American Veterans of All Wars
Prior to 1954 Veterans Day was known as
Armistice Day, a day dedicated to the cause of
world peace, primarily honoring veterans of World
War I. In 1954, after World War II having had the
greatest U.S. armed forces assembly in the
nations history; and after American forces aided in
South Korea, the veterans service organizations
urged the 83rd Congress to amend the term
Armistice Day. As a result, the Act of 1938 was
amended by replacing the word Armistice, with
Veterans. On June 1, 1954, November 11th
became the official first Veterans Day a day to
honor American veterans of all wars.

Luminaria
Streamwoods Annual Traditional Holiday Celebration
Every year, on the first Friday in December, hundreds of
community volunteers, civic organizations, individuals
and families help bring holiday spirit to Streamwood, by
lighting up the Village with luminaria. Designated
groups take ownership in lighting candles placed in
sand-filled paper bags along Park Boulevard and
throughout the entire municipal campus Village Hall,
Police Station, and Veterans Memorial.
Two children will be selected by a raffle ticket drawing
for the opportunity to assist Village President Billie Roth
with Luminarias grand finale the lighting of the Village holiday tree! The Village holiday tree, the largest spruce in
Veterans Memorial, is adorned with thousands of holiday lights. This stunning display of lights is a sight to be seen!
Of course, this holiday tradition would not be complete without cookies, hot cocoa, and a visit by two very important
guests Mr. & Mrs. Claus! Stop by Village Hall, as Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be in town visiting with children of all ages.

Industrial and Manufacturing Tax Savings
On October 6, the Village Board unanimously approved to renew with the Cook County Assessors Office, the
Class 6B property tax status of Rydin Decal, one of the Villages manufacturing businesses. Cook County
industrial and manufacturing businesses receiving the Class 6B property tax incentive are assessed at a
considerably lower market value rate 10 percent during the first 10 years, 15 percent in year 11, and 20
percent in year 12. Without Class 6B tax status, those properties are assessed at a standard rate of 25
percent. Offering this Class 6B tax incentive to Cook County industrial and manufacturing businesses
stimulates expansion, increases employment opportunities, and allows for competitiveness with DuPage and
Kane Countys more favorable tax structures.

DARE Donation
At a recent Board meeting, representatives from AMVETS Post 277
donated $1,000 to the Villages Drug Abuse Resistance Education
(DARE) Program. The DARE Program operates in nine schools
throughout the Village and teaches students to make positive, healthy
choices.

ComEd Smart Meter Coming to Streamwood

ComEd is preparing to rollout the installation of Smart Meters in all homes and
businesses across northern Illinois by the end of 2018. Smart Meters will give
you access to more information on your homes use of electricity, so that you
can see first-hand areas where you may be able to save money on your
monthly electric bills. Streamwood is scheduled for Smart Meter installations
beginning in December, with the balance installed in 2017. Be on the lookout
for further communications directly from ComEd. For questions or additional
information on the Smart Meter rollout, please visit ComEds website at
www.comed.com,

Tree Alert
The Village Public Works Forestry Department would like to alert residents to
black spots on maple tree leafs. This black spot or tar spot on leaves is a
tree fungus which affects all species of maple trees. Black spot fungus does
not have any effect on humans or pets. Although it may be unsightly, black
spot is generally not harmful to healthy maple trees. Unfortunately, if the
problem continues untreated it may begin to stress the tree. We are asking
residents to help control the spread of black spot, by raking up all leaves and
dispose of them in appropriate yard waste containers in a timely manner.

Phoenix Lake Clean-Up

On Saturday,
September 24, the
Natural Resource
Conservancy
Commission, along
with resident
volunteers and Village
staff, removed
invasive plant species
and cleaned up garbage around Phoenix Lake. In total, 16 bags of garbage
were removed. Volunteers found everything from an old end table to cans of
paint. A special thank you goes out to Melinda Burton, Steven Gibson, and
Diane Rader for their hard work in helping to improve our natural areas!

President Roth with members of civil engineering firm Hampton Lenzini

and Renwick, and Tim Holloway (far right)

I would like to thank the business and community members who joined us on September 28
in celebration of Streamwood Oaks Golf Clubs 25th anniversary. Despite the oddly cold
weather, it was a very enjoyable event.
Its hard to believe that the end of 2016 is already upon us. 2016 marked anniversary
milestones for two of the Villages prized assets Veterans Memorial and
Streamwood Oaks Golf Club both celebrating 25 Years. We were not the only
ones celebrating anniversary milestones. Poplar Creek Library as well as the Streamwood
Park District, both celebrated their golden 50th!
This time of year is a busy one for the Village, as I am sure it is for you and your family.
Plans are underway for the Villages annual holiday celebration Luminaria, on Friday,
December 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. If you, your family, or organization would like to
volunteer to help light up the Village with luminaria, please contact my office at (630)
736-3803 or by email at mayor@streamwood.org.
The holiday season is also a time to remember those less fortunate. Please consider helping
a senior citizen or family in need for the holidays, by donating coats, hats, scarves and/or
mittens, or by contributing to our local food pantry. To see how you can personally help
make a difference this holiday season, contact the Hanover Township Welfare
Services at (630) 540-9085 or the Hanover Township Senior Center at
(630) 483-5600.
The Village Board recently completed and adopted our 2017 Goals and Objectives. Our
annual goalsetting program provides us a clear path for setting priorities as we develop our
annual budget. Our guiding principal is always to maintain a balanced budget, improve our
reserve balances, keep the cost of government down, while maintaining the programs and
services our community expects and deserves.
I hope to see you at upcoming events in the community. Our Community Relations
Committee will host its annual Cultures of our Community event on Saturday,
November 5 at Poplar Creek Library from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. This is a great opportunity
to meet your neighbors and to learn and celebrate our communitys strenght in its diversity.
Please take time to honor and give thanks to our veterans by joining the Village Board and
the Veterans Commission for a Veterans Day observance at Streamwoods Veterans
Memorial on Friday, November 11 at 11:00 am.
On behalf of the entire Village Board we would like to wish you and yours a very safe and
happy holiday season! We look forward to continuing to serve you in the New Year, as
2017 will be a very special one - the 60th Anniversary of the Village of
Streamwood!
Sincerely,
Billie D. Roth, Village President

FREE Rain Barrel Program Ending
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District
(MWRD) of Greater Chicagos
free rain barrel program has
been very popular among
residents. The use of rain

appreciation for managing
water, as well as being a
useful tool in combating
flooding. Over 500 residents have participated in
the MWRDs free rain barrel program since its
inception in 2015. Effective December 31,
2016, the MWRD will discontinue the

Many Streamwood residents rake leaves into the street assuming that they will be picked up by the
Public Works Department; please be advised that the Village does not provide this service. Please
refrain from raking, sweeping or blowing leaves into Village streets. All yard waste must be collected
and placed into approved containers for removal by Advanced Disposal during regularly scheduled trash
collection day. The 2016 yard waste pickup service ends on December 15.
Parking Restrictions
Parking is prohibited on Village streets between the hours of 1:00 am 5:00 am, except where noted
in specific subdivisions. Parking is also prohibited on Village streets after two inches (2) or greater of
