1.Introduction:
Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) from Symantec connects multiple, independent
systems into a management framework for increased availability. Each system,
or node, runs its own operating system and cooperates at the software level to
form a cluster. VCS links commodity hardware with intelligent software to
provide application failover and control. When a node or a monitored
application fails, other nodes can take predefined actions to take over and bring
up services elsewhere in the cluster.

2. Prerequisites before installing SFW & HA.

1. The logged on user must have administrative access to all systems
selected
2. for cluster operations. Add the domain user account to the local
Administrator
3. group of each system.
4. The logged on user must have administrative access to all systems
selected
5. for cluster operations. Add the domain user account to the local
Administrator
group of each system .
6. Vcs_helper account will need to be requested.
7. Make Sure Vcs_helper account has No interactive logon, no password
expiration needs domain join permissions.
8. Vcs_helper account needs to be added to Administrators Group.
9. Edit Open Local Security Policy.
10.
We need to add an additional Registry setting to address a known
issue with administrative share access:

3 . Adding Permissions:
Adding Helper account to Admin Group.
Account should be similar to below Screen Shot:

Start, Run, Open Local Users and Groups management console (lusrmgr.msc)
Under Administrators Group, add the HADHelper service account
For our test scenario, this is ehn\vchelper1

3.1 Local Security Policy Edit.

Start, Run, Open Local Security Policy Editor (secpol.msc)

Open, local Policies, User Rights Assignments:

Add the Domain\vcshelper1 account to the following policies:

Double-click each entry and add the user account by clicking add User or Group.
This should be done for the following entries:
1] Act as part of the operating system (as depicted above)
2] Adjust memory quotas for a process
3] Back up files and directories
4] Increase scheduling priority
5] Log on as a service

6] Restore files and directories

Next we need to add an additional Registry setting to address a known issue with administrative
share access:
Gleaned from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971277
The hotfix has been superseded but we need to add the following registry key:
You must make the following changes to the registry to set the value of the Level2Compatibility
registry entry to 1:
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or
provide confirmation.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Type Level2Compatibility, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click Level2Compatibility, and then click Modify.
6. In the Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value box, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
In short:
Under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters add a new entry:
DWORD (32-bit) Value called Level2Compatibility and assign a value of 1.

Reboot the server and repeat steps for the other nodes in the cluster.

In this screen you can either Manually Enter the Domain Naming (FQDN) or Just
select from the list shown in the screen shot.
In the same screen, Select the Check box Specify systems and users manually
Uncheck 1. Retrieve list of systems in domain
2. Retrieve list of users in domain
Click on next Button.

Next is the system Selection Screen:

Type in either Local host or the Host name as shown in the screen shot below
and click on Add.
This would be node one which you will be adding to the cluster Configuration.

Then Add the Node 2 to the Cluster Configuration as shown below.

Ex: in the screen shot you can see XXXX118 (Node 1) and XXXX119 (Node 2).

IBM Corporation

As this is a Two node cluster configuration you can see both Nodes added in the
screen shot below and now click on Next.

IBM Corporation

This screen you will be able to see the status of the Nodes. If both the nodes are
active (Running) then the status will say Accepted.
IBM Corporation

The Cluster Manager will ping both the nodes to verify connection.
Check the WMI Connection status.
Check the Version of VCS Installed.
Give the status weather the Cluster is configured or not.
See the Screen shot below.

The Next Screen is the Cluster Configuration Screen:

IBM Corporation

In this screen you will have three options;

1. Create new cluster - Select when creating new Cluster Configuration.
2. Edit Existing Cluster - Select if modifications required for existing Cluster
Configuration.
3. Delete Cluster Delete a Already created cluster.
We will select Create New Cluster as its a New Set up and click on next.

Next Screen is the Cluster Details Screen:

IBM Corporation

Here you will provide a Cluster Name which is suitable for your Configuration.
Cluster Name : Type a name for the new cluster. Symantec recommends a
maximum length of 32 characters for the cluster name.
Cluster ID : Select a cluster ID from the suggested cluster IDs in the drop-down
list, or type a unique ID for the cluster. The cluster ID can be any number from 0
to 65535.
Operating System : From the drop-down list, select the operating system.
All the systems in the cluster must have the same operating system and
architecture. For example, you cannot configure a Windows Server 2008 and a
Windows Server 2008 R2 system in the same cluster.

IBM Corporation

Available Systems : Select the systems that you wish to configure in the cluster.
Check the Select all systems check box to select all the systems
simultaneously. Click Next
The Next Screen is the System Validation:
The wizard validates the selected systems for cluster membership. After the
systems are validated, click Next.
If a system is not validated, review the message associated with the failure
and restart the wizard after rectifying the problem.

Click Next.

The Next Screen is the Private Network Configuration Wizard:

On the Private Network Configuration panel, configure the VCS private network
and then click Next. You can configure the VCS private network either over
the ethernet or over the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) layer using IPv4 or
IPv6 network.
Select Configure LLT over UDP on IPv4 network or Configure LLT over
UDP on IPv6 network depending on the IP protocol that you wish to use.
Here we will Configure LLT Over UDP on Ipv4 as CMS Environment Supports
only Ipv4.

IBM Corporation

Select the check boxes next to the NICs to be assigned to the private network.
You can assign a maximum of eight network links. Symantec recommends
reserving two NICs exclusively for the VCS private network.
For each selected NIC, verify the displayed IP address.
The IP address is used for the VCS private communication over the specified
UDP port.
Specify a unique UDP port for each of the link. Click Edit Ports if you wish to
edit the UDP ports for the links. You can use ports in the range 49152 to 65535.
The default ports numbers are 50000 and 50001 respectively.

Configuring the cluster using the Cluster Configuration Wizard

For each selected NIC, double-click the respective field in the Link column
and choose a link from the drop-down list. Specify a different link (Link1, Link 2
or Link3) for each NIC. Each link is associated with a UDP port that you
specified earlier.
The wizard configures the LLT service (over UDP) on the selected network
adapters. The specified UDP ports are used for the private network
communication.

Click Next.
The Next Screen is the Security Service Option Panel:
To use VCS cluster user privileges, click Use VCS User Privileges and then type
a user name and password.
The wizard configures this user as a VCS Cluster Administrator. In this mode,
communication between cluster nodes and clients, including Cluster Manager
(Java Console), occurs using the encrypted VCS cluster administrator
credentials. The wizard uses the VCSEncrypt utility to encrypt the user
password.
