hydrants.
The tank capacity shall allow the continuous use of such flow rate for a period of about 4 hours.
Each tunnel shall be provided with two independent systems, one of which shall be a full-reserve
system.
At each tunnel portal there shall be a 200 m storage tank and the related fire fighting pressurization
plant.
Inside the tunnel a HDPE pipe with a diameter of 125 mm shall be installed.
The system shall be a loop-configuration and shall be supplied by either one or the other fire
fighting plant.
The fire fighting terminals shall be some hydrants which shall supply 200 l/min each in any
condition.
They shall be arranged along the emergency walkway, in appropriate niches, at a distance of 125
m one from the other. The dimensioning shall take into account the related head losses with 120 m
long fire hose (the basic equipment of each hydrant shall be 4 hoses, 30 m long each).
The pressurization pump set shall be made up of two electric pumps with immersed vertical axis
and rotor (one stand-by pump) dimensioned to supply a water flow rate higher than 800 l/min,
installed immediately above the storage tank. Moreover there shall be an electric engine pump
dimensioned for 120 l/min flow rate.
The hydraulic calculation of the pipework shall be performed according to some geometrical data
(lengths of the pipework sections, hydrostatic head, pipe nominal diameters), so as to determine all
the hydraulic characteristics of the pipework (flow rate, distributed and concentrated head losses)
and the required overall head and the flow rate of the minimum power of the pump to be installed
upstream the pipework.
Moreover the verification shallbe performed on the maximum speed reached by the water in all the
pipework sections. In particular it shall be verified that it shall not exceed in any section the value of
10.00 m/sec.

2. Fire indication, Stage 1 and Stage 2;
3. Gas discharge;
Low pressure in the gas storage cylinder
Each room protected with gas suppression system shall be provided with a horn strobe on both
sides of each entrance of the room.

Tunnel) absorbed electric power 30 kWe; the group is complete of a pilot electro-pump with a
flow rate of 200 l/min, prevalence 5 bar, absorbed electric power 2 kWe. The provided electropumps shall be of the vertical axis type with the immersed rotor; the nominal speed of the
motors shall be 2900 rev/min, nominal voltage 400 V and frequency 50Hz
The pressurization groups, in addition to the shut-off valves and the check valves, shall be
provided with the equipment which are designed for the operations and monitoring of the group
itself; pressure transmitters for the automatic start-up of the various pumps in function of the set
point pressures; flow rate meter for the periodical verification of the electro-pumps features;
alarm flow switch; pressure switches for the display of the system conditions. The internal pipes
of the control unit shall be made in zinced steel; immediately outside the control unit, after the
interjecting of a transition joint, the pipes will be made in HDPE PE 100 125.
The 200 m accumulation tanks, planned for the replenishment through the tanker, shall be
provided with the instruments to monitor the tank level; in particular the minimum level shall stop
the pumps so to preserve them from the dry operation condition. On the bottom of the tanks, for
the purpose of the periodical maintenance, two submergible electro-pumps shall be installed in
order to deplete the tanks themselves, they have the following features: flow rate 1.5 l/s,
prevalence 90 kPa (in case of necessity of cleaning the bottom of the tank, or of restoring the
internal waterproofing, Fire Fighting pumps don't allow the whole dewatering because they have
a safety minimum level).
Near each pressurization control unit a 2 group shall be installed for the joint of the firefighters engine
The fire-prevention piping, with a loop conformation, shall be made in HDPE PE 100 125 with
