2.1.4 Polling Test Overview

The MDS POLL.EXE program is intended to be used by operation and maintenance personnel in
conjunction with the MDS RTU Simulator board. The program provides elementary statistics gathering, as well as programmable polling timing with accuracy within one millisecond.
2-4

PERFORMANCE TESTS

MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

In a typical setup, a PC is hooked up to a master station radio. This master will transmit and receive
data from a remote radio, with an RTU Simulator hooked up to it. The PC program will generate
a query (poll) for the master station to transmit to the remote radio with the RTU Simulator
attached. The RTU Simulator will recognize the poll and generate a response. The polling program
checks the response from the RTU for correctness.

2.1.5 RTU Simulator Installation

The RTU Simulator board is a microcontroller programmed to emulate a remote terminal unit. The
simulator is designed to work at 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 baud. Each RTU Simulator has a switch
selectable address from 1 to 4. The RTU Simulator is used in conjunction with MDS polling software.
Configuration (DIP) Switches
There are four dip switches on the RTU simulator. Set the desired baud rate and the RTU Simulators unit address, as shown in Table 2-2.

2.1.6 MDS TEST POLLING SOFTWARE (POLL.EXE)

Computer System Requirements
This program runs on the IBM PC, XT, AT and most compatibles. System Requirements are DOS
2.0 or later, 256K memory, CGA, EGA or Hercules Graphics, and a serial port configured as DTE
(COM1 or COM2).
Hardware Connections
Connect the radio to the PC either directly via an RS-232 cable or through appropriate modems. It
may be connected directly to a DTE configured PC serial port with a standard RS-232 cable (null
modem or reversed wires are not required). It is suggested that the units be initially tested with a
direct link so that you may become familiar with their operation.
Software Start-up
Boot up the PC using your DOS, insert the program disk in drive A, and type POLL in response to
the A> prompt. When the program begins, the user will be prompted for the serial port and data rate
to be used for this poll. Select this setup information by pressing the number next to the desired
configuration.
The next menu selects which response you want from the remote radio. Various messages of different lengths and content are available. Choose 1 for the default message.
Two timing characteristics are also available. The time between polls may be chosen first. This
time, specified in milliseconds, is the time you wish the master to wait between receiving a valid
response, until the next poll is sent. For example, if you choose 200, the master will wait 200
milliseconds after it receives an answer, until it sends the next poll.
There is a limited amount of time that the polling software will wait for a response, before it
assumes it is either lost or severely damaged. This time is selectable using timing option 2. If you
wish fast recovery from errors, this number may be set low, but be sure to consider that this time
must include the RTS-CTS delay in the remote radio, the time it takes to transfer the data message
at the selected baud rate, and any delays in the modems or radios. The default is 200 milliseconds;
this number should be adequate in most instances. You may wish to make this number higher (for
example, 1000 milliseconds) if you are having trouble with a system. This way, you will be able
to monitor failures more easily. (This is a particularly useful option when using a real-time protocol
analyzer).
Polling With the RTU POLL Program
Several options are available when polling using the MDS RTU POLL program. Start the poll
of the RTU Simulator by pressing a number between one and seven to initiate a pre-program
response from the RTU Simulator. Table 2-4 displays the responses to be expected.
The space bar pauses the polling operation. The C key clears the statistics screen. The N key
allows you to change the polling message and timing information without having to restart the program. Use the Q key to quit the program.

Outgoing Poll Construction and RTU Simulator Response

A poll is constructed by sending the address followed by a one or two byte command. Valid commands are ? or #n (where n is a digit between 0 and 9). The simulator will respond differently
depending on which type of poll it receives. Table 2-4 lists the possible polling commands and their
preprogrammed response.

RTU Simulator Timing & Flow Control

When the RTU simulator receives a poll, it attempts to respond immediately. The response
sequence is:
1. Raise REQUEST TO SEND (RTS) output
2. Wait for CLEAR TO SEND (CTS) from radioif no CTS within 200 milliseconds, abort
response
3. Transmit response message
4. Lower RTS
If there is a continuous CTS signal, or if CTS is tied to RTS on the RTU, the RTU Simulator
will immediately transmit its response.
Definitions
Maximum Wait TimeThe time interval in which you expect a complete response from an RTU.
This time is measured from the last byte of the poll to the last byte of the response, including
RTS-CTS delay, and the time it takes for the data to pass through the modem.
Polling SequenceThe order in which RTUs are polled, when simulating a system with more than
one RTU. For example, to poll numbers 1, 2, and 3, in that order, set this to 123. To poll only
RTU 1, set this to 1.
MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

PERFORMANCE TESTS

2-7

Time Between PollsThe time interval beginning when the last valid response is received, until
the master's RTS is asserted to send the next poll.
TriggerThe RTS output of the opposite serial port can be used to trigger an oscilloscope, logic
analyzer, or other test equipment. If you are polling through COM1, RTS on COM2 will go active
when the master does not receive a valid response. This is optional.

2.2.0 REMOTE MAINTENANCE AND DIAGNOSTICS

On MDS systems configured with diagnostics options, all the radios in the system can send their
diagnostic information to a remote personal computer via the DIAGNOSTIC COMMUNICATIONS port on the rear panel. The computer must be using either MDS InSite Network Management System software or MDS 2000 Diagnostics & Control System software. If you need to verify
the functions of remote maintenance use the following procedures.
A service monitor or (equivalent seperate equipment) is required for these procedures.
The following procedure assumes you are familiar with the general operation of the MDS InSite
Network and Management System or MDS 2000 Diagnostics & Control Software.
There are possible adjustments required in the following tests. Refer to CHAPTER 4ADJUSTMENTS
AND ALIGNMENT if adjustments are required.
1. Turn off both power switches on the front panel. Fold down the front panel to expose the Front
Panel Logic Board and access the chassis. Remove the jumper from J13 on the Front Panel
Logic Board. If the radio is equipped with a 9600 bps modem, also move modem jumper J18
to Pins 1 & 2
2. Ensure the computer is connected to the DIAGNOSTIC COMMUNICATIONS port on the Master Station rear panel and is running MDS software at the main menu.
3. Do one of the following steps to verify the TRANSMIT POWER OUTPUT display depending
on the software you are using.
a. InSite UsersFrom the start-up screen, pull down the Select An Option drop down menu
and select Master Tx/Rx Monitoring.
b. MDS 2000 Users Select (F2) to display the MASTER TRANSMIT STATUS menu.
4. Using a short piece of coaxial cable, connect the service monitor (or RF power meter and
dummy load) to the Master Station ANTENNA connector.
5. Turn on both front panel power switches.
6. Key the transmitters by placing the jumper on the left pair of pins on J13 (CW) on the Front
Panel Logic Board. See Figure 4-7 for the location.
2-8

PERFORMANCE TESTS

MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

7. Verify the transmitter power output display shown in the Master Tx/Rx Monitoring screen
(InSite), or MASTER TRANSMIT STATUS menu (MDS 2000). Select Transmitter A on
the front panel of the Master Station by positioning the TRANSMITTER SELECT switch to
A.
Verify the TXA power output on the computer monitor is the same as measured on the service
monitor. Next, select the B Transmitter from the front panel by positioning the TRANSMITTER SELECT switch in the B position and verify the TXB power output on the computer monitor is the same as that measured on the service monitor.
8. Do one of the following steps to verify the RECEIVE SIGNAL STRENGTH display depending on the software you are using.
a. InSite UsersPull down the Select An Option drop down menu and select Master Tx/Rx
Monitoring.
b. MDS 2000 Users Select (F4) from the menu for the MASTER RECEIVER STATUS
screen.
9. Set up the service monitor for an on-channel signal at 60 dBm with 3 kHz of deviation. Verify the RXA signal strength is 60 dBm on the computer monitor. Likewise, verify Receive
Signal Strength B is 60 dBm.
10. Do one of the following steps to calibrate the FM DEVIATION display depending on the software you are using.
a. InSite UsersPull down the Select An Option drop down menu and select Master Tx/Rx
Monitoring.
b. MDS 2000 UsersSelect (F4) from the menu for the MASTER RECEIVER STATUS
screen.
11. Verify that the RXA FM deviation on the computer monitor is 3 kHz. Verify RXB FM deviation on the monitor is 3 kHz.
12. Check the frequency offset display seen on the Master Tx/Rx Monitoring screen (InSite) or
MASTER RECEIVER STATUS screen (MDS 2000). An on channel signal from the service
monitor should show the received signal near the zero point on the PC display. If the receivers
show different offsets (more than 1 kHz), one or both of the receivers may be off frequency.

2.3.0 EVALUATION PROCEDURES

The following equipment checks verify proper operation of the Master Station. Included are checks
of the antenna system, power output, transmitter frequency, modulation deviation, and receiver
sensitivity.

MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

PERFORMANCE TESTS

2-9

It is important to connect the service monitor directly to the ANT connector of the station under test.
During normal operation and the procedures that follow, both transmitters are operational. It is
likely that the transmitter performance measurements will not be reliable if the service monitor
picks up the off-the-air signals from locations in close proximity to the equipment. It is possible
to receive the signals from both transmitters simultaneously and/or transmissions from other transmitters. These undesired signals can result in false readings.

CAUTION
POSSIBLE
EQUIPMENT
DAMAGE

The procedures which follow assume the service monitor has a

built-in dummy load with automatic switch-over from signal generator to monitor whenever a high level RF signal is present at its
input. If not, a power attenuator must be used between the Master
Station and the service monitor.

2.3.1 Power Output & Antenna SystemAll Models

1. Place both front panel primary POWER UNIT switches in the OFF position.
2. Disconnect any connections to the DATA or DIAGNOSTIC ports on the rear of the chassis.
3. Connect a service monitor or RF power meter to the Master Station ANT connector. Use a short
length of low loss transmission line.
4. Open the Master Station front panel.
NOTE: Before proceeding to the next step, become familiar with the test and adjustment points
and layout of the FPLB shown in Figure 4-7.
5. Place the keyline jumper on J13 of the FPLB to the CW position to key the transmitters.
NOTE: Note the position of J18 before removing it so it can be replaced in the original location
after this procedure.
6. If an MDS 9600 baud modem is installed in the radio, use jumper J18, Pins 2-3, on the modem
to key the transmitter on and off during this test sequence.
7. Turn on Power Supply A using the POWER UNIT A switch on the front panel.
8. Turn on Power Supply B using the POWER UNIT B switch on the front panel.
9. Disconnect the A and B battery connectors at FPLB J7 & J6. Connect a voltmeter to either
FPLB J7 Pins 1 & 3 or or J6 Pins 1 & 3.
2-10

PERFORMANCE TESTS

MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

10. Ensure both transmitters are keyed (if hot standby) (FPLB J13, Pins 1&2 jumpered). If the
radio is not set for hot standby, check these voltages with the transmiter unkeyed.
11. Verify the voltage is 14.1 Vdc (0.05V) at each of the battery connectors (FPLB J7 & J6).If
not, adjust the V. ADJ. on the side of the power supply through the perforated cover. On DC
supplies, the adjustments are on the top. Reconnect the battery connectors at FPLB J7 & J6.
12. On the front panel, select Transmitter A with the TRANSMIT A/AUTO/B switch.
13. Verify that the Transmitter A power output is between 4.5 and 5.0 watts. If not, adjust the
power output as indicated CHAPTER 4ADJUSTMENTS AND ALIGNMENT.
NOTE: In the U.S.A., a power output of more than 5 watts may constitute a violation of FCC
rules. The actual proper power output depends on system design and may be more or less
than 5 watts. Set the transmitter to a level equal to or less than the maximum legal limit.
14. Select Transmitter B with the TRANSMIT A/AUTO/B switch. Again, verify that the power output
is between 4.5 and 5.0 watts. If not, adjust the power output as indicated CHAPTER 4ADJUSTMENTS AND ALIGNMENT.
15. Remove the keyline jumper on J13 of the FPLB or J18, Pins 2-3 on the MDS 9600 baud
modem.
16. Remove the service monitor or dummy load from the chassis ANT connector.
17. Connect a directional wattmeter between the Master Station and the antenna feedline. Use as
short a length of transmission line as is possible.
18. Key the transmitters by placing the jumper at J13 on the FPLB at the continuous key position
(CW position).
19. Using the TRANSMIT A/AUTO/B switch, select each transmitter and measure its power output.
20. Reverse the slug in the directional wattmeter and check the reflected power from the antenna
for each transmitter. This should read less than 10% of the desired power output0.5 watts
for 5 watts forward power. The wattmeter slug should be rated at no more than 10 watts for the
most accurate readings.
21. Unkey the transmitters by removing the keyline jumper on J13 of the FPLB or J18, Pins 2-3 on
the MDS 9600 baud modem.
22. If the reflected power reading is greater than 10% of the forward power, a problem with the
antenna or feedline is indicated. Before proceeding with any other checks, do the following:
a. Check all connections and ensure that the coaxial connectors are installed properly on the
coaxial cable.
MDS 05-3147A01, Rev. A

PERFORMANCE TESTS

2-11

b. Make sure that the antenna is not damaged, and that it is the correct model for the frequency.
NOTE: The unit should not be put into service until reflected power problems are corrected
because they indicate system problems and can impair performance.
c. If antenna or feedline changes are necessary be sure to repeat Steps 15 through 18 above.
23. This completes the power output and antenna system evaluation. Be sure to reinstall J18 to its
original position.

3.1.0 INTRODUCTION
This chapter contains information on the various switch and jumper settings available on the MDS
4130A.

3.2.0 INPUT VOLTAGE SELECTION

DC powered units require different power supply assemblies for different input voltage ranges.
AC powered units can operate at 115 Vac (120 Vac) or 230 Vac (240 Vac) depending on the configuration of the rear panel power enty module. The 100 Vac and 220 Vac settings are invalid. The
Voltage Selector Card must be set to either 120 Vac or 240 Vac. Refer to Figure 3-1 for input
voltage selection details.

3.3.0 DIAGNOSTICS INTERFACE

3.3.1 Radio Diagnostic Address
Each MDS 4130A Series Master Station must have a station address used to identify itself to a
remote PC system running MDS Diagnostics and Control System software that is connected to the
DIAGNOSTIC port on the rear panel of the radio. The address is a number between 1 and 255 and is
programmable through S8, a DIP switch, located on the FPLB.
The stations Diagnostic Address must be used even for modest systems with only one Master Station. Typically, in systems with more than one Master Station, each station must have a unique
address. The unique address is useful for verifying the source of the diagnostic information. However, unique addresses are not required for installations with dial-up modems, but they are a must
for installations in which several MDS Master stations or Point-to-Point radios are polled through
a common diagnostic communication channel.

3.4.0 DATA SYNCHRONIZER

Radios sold as repeaters configured with 4800 or 9600 bps modems are shipped with the Data Synchronizer installed. To convert a Master Station for use as a repeater, the user must first install the
Data Synchronizer Board (MDS P/N 03-1389A02) and then set the configuration DIP switches.

3.4.1 Word Length

Refer to Table 3-4 for word length settings. The first section of the configuration switch SW1 is
set to match the data word length used in the system. A word consists of the start bit, data bits,
stop bit and parity bit.

J3

Selects internal or external LEDs for displaying the status of the RS-232 lines. The
LEDs may be turned off for minimum current consumption.

J5

Permits inversion of the received audio signal, which is necessary when using
receivers such as MDS master stations with low-side LO injection.

J6

This jumper affects the CTS behavior on Master Stations versus half-duplex
remotes. Leave in Master.

J7

This jumper controls receive data (RXD) muting when RTS is raised. For Master
Stations leave it on Duplex Master. For Master Stations configured as remotes,
place the jumper on the Half-Duplex Hot Standby.

J8

This jumper controls muting of the RXD at the very beginning of each transmission
received. For master stations, leave it on Master.

J9

Receive DescrambleSelects de-scrambling of received data. This is necessary

when data has been scrambled at the transmitting end.

J10

Selects scrambling of transmit data and is recommended on all synchronous digital

systems. Asynchronous systems may also benefit from scrambling and
de-scrambling if the data contains certain repeating data patterns.

J11

TX precoder. This must be ON for 9600 bps operation.

J16

Transmit ClockNormally set to Normal (1-2). The alternate position makes the
internal transmit (TX) clock track incoming data for synchronous operation when no
external clock (ETC) signal is available.

J17

For the optional RS-422 interface, a pair of jumpers must be installed in the jumper
location. (A special set of interface ICs at U1, U2, U3 and U26 is used for RS-422
operation.) Refer also to Table 3-17.

3-13

Table 3-18. 9600 bps Modem Jumper Functions (Continued)

Jumper
J18

Function
RTS Control. Normally set this to Continuous to keep the transmitter and modem
keyed.
For Simplex Master Staions, place the jumper in the External position.
For Master Stations configured as remotes, place the jumper in the External
position.

J19

This jumper serves no purpose on modems in Digital Applications. Leave on

Normal.

J20

MODE. Selects synchronous or asynchronous TX clocking.

J21

Selects the RTS/CTS delay. The minimum delay of 10 msec is long enough to
assure that the transmitter keys and stabilizes, and the squelch circuit at the other
end of the path has responded to the received signal. A longer delay may be
selected if desired.

J22

Soft Carrier De-Key. Delays the un-keying of the transmitter after the end of the data
stream by 0 or 5 msec. Normally set to 0 (OFF).

J23

Keyline Control. Normally set to On RTS to cause keying to respond to RTS.

Placing the jumper to On Data will cause the radio to key in response to TX data.

J24/25

Asynchronous Character Length. For Synchronous operation, the position of these

jumpers does not matter.

J27

TTL Invert. If optional TTL interface is used, place a jumper here; otherwise, no
jumper is used.

J28

Dual Time Constant. Install for modem Master Station operation in MAS network.
Not installed for operation of modem in a remote transceiver.

J29

Test Pattern. Remove jumper from J11 and install jumper at J29 to send 2400 Hz
sinewave test signal for checking radios transmitter deviation.

J31

Data Loopback. Used only when modem is installed in a remote transceiver.

5.1.0 INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides information for retuning the internal duplexers that may be used in MDS
4130 Master station. These internal duplexers are mounted inside the MDS 4130 chassis.
NOTE: Replacing a duplexer with a factory tuned duplexer is the best way to ensure optimum
duplexer performance. Retuning any duplexer in the field should be avoided. However,
if replacing the duplexer is not possible or practical, the following procedures provide
guidance in retuning the duplexers.

5.2.0 GENERAL
Duplexers are high-Q filters that allow the transmitter and receiver to operate simultaneously
(full-duplex) on the same antenna. The duplexer is a bi-directional passive device. It does not have
transmit and receive ports. The duplexer ports are marked H I , LO and ANT. The H I port connects to
the assembly (transmitter or receiver) with the higher operating frequency. The H I port passes the
higher frequency while it notches (attenuates) the lower frequency. The LO port connects to the
assembly (transmitter or receiver) with the lower operating frequency. The LO port passes the lower
frequency and notches (attenuates) the higher frequency. The ANT port always connects to the
antenna system.
The duplexers are designed to operate in specific frequency bands. If they are tuned too far from
the original frequency, or set to a different receive/transmit frequency split, the duplexer may not
meet the original specifications. This may result in degraded radio performance or possible
receiver damage from the transmitter signal.
The duplexers have a very low insertion loss (typically 1 dB) and the notches are very sharp. If the
radios operating frequency is changed and its signal bandwidth is then outside the 200 kHz notch,
the duplexer should be replaced or retuned.
Example: The duplexer has a isolation specification for 100 kHz, and if the radio has a 200
kHz bandwidth, any frequency change will put some of the signal-bandwidth outside the notch of the duplexer. In contrast, a 10 kHz bandwidth radio can be retuned
90 kHz without moving outside the 100 kHz duplexer notch.

5.3.0 DUPLEXER ASSEMBLY SPECIFICATIONS

The internal duplexers operate in one of two different frequency ranges. The specifications and frequency ranges are listed in Table 5-1.
All electrical specifications are maintained over the operating temperature range of 40 to
+70 degrees Celsius.
Both ports of the duplexer are capable of withstanding an open circuit or a short circuit at the
antenna terminal at rated power and continuous duty cycle.

These duplexers have been designed for use in one frequency range and are physically different to
accommodate specific frequency ranges. The original operating frequency and the desired frequency must be in the same range.
If the desired frequency is outside the original operating frequency range, the duplexer must be
replaced with one of the appropriate frequency range.
Example: If the duplexer originally operated at 450 MHz and 460 MHz, and the desired frequencies were 410 MHz and 420 MHz, the duplexer cannot be retuned. It must be
replaced.
The frequency split (difference between transmit and receive frequencies) must also remain the
same as it was shipped from the factory. The duplexers have been designed for the specific frequency split. If the duplexer was originally shipped with a 10 MHz frequency split between
transmit and receive frequencies, the new frequency settings must have a 10 MHz frequency split.
If the desired frequencies have a different frequency split as compared to the original shipped frequencies, a new duplexer must be ordered.
Example: If the duplexer was originally intended to operate at 450 MHz and 460 MHz, and
the desired frequencies are 455 MHz and 460 MHz the duplexer cannot be retuned.
It must be replaced.

5.4.0 RETUNING INTERNAL DUPLEXERSTWO METHODS

There are two basic methods for retuning internal duplexers described in this chapter. The spectrum analyzer/service monitor method is the preferred procedure. However, the RF millivoltmeter
or null-detector method can be used if a spectrum analyzer and tracking generator are not available.
Figure 5-2 shows the basic duplexer tuning setup suitable for either procedure.
The internal duplexers covered in this chapter require only frequency reject tuning. Unlike the
external duplexers that require both pass-band and frequency reject tuning. It is much simpler to
retune an internal duplexer than an external one.
Method 1Service Monitor/Spectrum Analyzer Method
This is the preferred method. The service monitor or spectrum analyzer method is more precise
than the RF null-detector method and provides a spectrum display.
Method 2RF Null-Detector Method
The RF null-detector method does not provide a spectrum display like the service monitor/spectrum analyzer method. The spectrum display on the service monitor gives a greater indication of
the sharpness of the notch. However, the null-detector method can provide satisfactory results if
the procedure is followed closely and only a small adjustment is necessary.
General Test Setup
Test equipment should have a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms.

10. Write the new operating frequencies on the duplexer with a durable marker.
Using an MDS Receiver as a Null-detector
An MDS receiver assembly can be used as an RF null-detector. Although it is not the preferred
method, the sensitivity of the receiver assembly is actually greater than with an RF millivoltmeter.
In this arrangement, the receivers operating frequency is programmed to the duplexers notch frequency (same frequency as set on signal generator). A signal generator with a nominal output of 0
dBm (225 mV) is then injected in the duplexer. The receiver RSSI or RSS voltage is used to determine the signal level passing through the duplexer. Tune the duplexer for a minimum RSSI or RSS
voltage indicating a null. Refer to the Receiver assembly documentation for test point and signal
level information.

6.1.0 INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides information for retuning the external duplexers that may be used with the
MDS 4130A Master Station. These external duplexers are mounted outside the MDS 4130A
chassis and are suitable for 19-inch rack mounting.

6.2.0 GENERAL
Duplexers are high-Q filters that allow the transmitter and receiver to operate simultaneously
(full-duplex) on the same antenna. The duplexer is a bi-directional passive device. It does not have
transmit and receive ports. The duplexer ports are marked HI, LO and ANT. The HI port connects to
the assembly (transmitter or receiver) with the higher operating frequency. The HI port passes the
higher frequency while it notches (attenuates) the lower frequency. The LO port connects to the
assembly (transmitter or receiver) with the lower operating frequency. The LO port passes the lower
frequency and notches (attenuates) the higher frequency. The ANT port always connects to the
antenna system.
The duplexers are designed to operate in specific frequency bands. If they are tuned too far from
the original frequency the duplexer may not meet the original specifications. This may result in
degraded radio performance or possible receiver damage from the transmitter signal.
The duplexers have a very low insertion loss (typically 1 dB) and the notches are very sharp. If the
radios operating frequency is changed and its signal bandwidth is then outside the 300 kHz notch,
the duplexer should be replaced or retuned.
Example: The duplexer has a isolation specification for 150 kHz. Therefore, a 10 kHz bandwidth radio can be retuned 145 kHz without moving outside the 150 kHz duplexer notch.

14. Connect the service monitor output to the duplexer LOW FREQ connector.
The IFR FM/AM 1200S/A service monitor output-point is the DUPLEX connector.
15. Loosen the two locking nuts on the Pass-Low cavity tuning rods 3 and 4. Use pliers on the
rods to break free from any locking cement.
16. Alternately adjust and set tuning rods 3 and 4 for maximum signal at the center frequency.

Reject-High Frequency Tuning

17. Set the service monitor for the higher frequency used in the duplexer.
To change frequency with an IFR FM/AM 1200S/A service monitor, press RF and use the
arrow keys.
18. Remove the rubber covers over tuning capacitors 7 and 8.
19. Alternately, set tuning capacitors 7 and 8 for maximum attenuation at the center frequency.
NOTE: Two notches may be visible on the service monitor display. These two notches must be
set to superimpose each other at the center frequency.
20. Repeat steps 2 through 18 until no further improvement can be made in the pass or reject levels.
21. Tighten the four locking nuts on all the cavity tuning rods. Verify the display does not change
as the locking nuts are tightened.

12.1.1 AC Power Supplies

The AC power supplies can be configured to operate at either 115 Vac or 230 Vac by reconfiguring
the power entry module on the rear panel. However, the fuse must be changed to accomodate the
correct input voltage. Refer to Table 7-2 for fuse information. To reconfigure an AC Power Supply
to either 115 Vac or 230 Vac operation refer to Figure 3-1.
There are different models of AC to DC power supplies used. Refer to the appropriate schematic.
