Online Education vs Traditional Education

Nowadays, people need to study in order to learn new skills that they will apply
in their work or daily life. In addition, old people should continue learning every
day so that they dont get rusty. This fact can become a problem in our
globalized world where time is a limited resource. Since, technology has been
developed, people can learn different skills just sitting in front a computer.
Thats why in the last 7 years, online course enrollment has increased 19%,
while traditional course enrollment has increased only 2%. Therefore, online
education is better than traditional education.
There are several reasons because online education is better. First, Money is
limited when a person is young and is trying to start a career. Considering that
fact, online education has a lower cost than traditional education. In average,
based in 4 years of courses, studying at a private college could cost almost $
240 000. Meanwhile, online courses can cost $30 000. Second, if a person
works or has a family, this person will have limited time to study. With online
education, the student can choose his schedule and doesnt need to be
attending classes every day like in traditional education. Also, these online
courses last up to one-year maximum, ergo the student can get a degree in
less time. If the student doesnt understand some topic, a teacher will explain
him all his doubts. As an online student, a person can communicate, every time
they need, with their teacher by mail or start a chat conversation. Third, people
can learn more about technology. A person will use diverse tools and apps such
as skype, in order to learn better. Additionally, when the student suffers the
internet, he would find a lot of information that can be useful for his learning.
Students from some online courses will have access to restricted scientific
databases. Finally, the student can learn from the comfort of his home. Online
education doesnt need the student to be present in a specific place at a
specific time. This is useful because a person can study a course offered by an
international university without traveling. It is easy to see that the student
saves money and time. In definitive, online education is more focus on
education and less focus on social pressures.
However, online education has disadvantages. This type of education requires
a lot of discipline; students must read a lot and practice their new skills at
home. There is not going to be a full time teacher to control the student every
day, as it is in traditional education. Other disadvantage of online education is
that doesnt have some facilities that are necessary for some studies and
activities. For example, if the person is studying chemistry, the student wont
have the access to a laboratory to manipulate chemical elements and make a
chemical reaction. In addition, this student wont get any experience. With
online education, the student will only know about theoretical concepts. The
few human contact is a disadvantage at online education. Students can not
share a classroom. They can not discuss with other students in real time. They

just sit in front of a computer and learn by themselves. This is a problem

because students need to share their ideas with other students so that they
can compare what they are thinking or doubt if they have the right answer.
Furthermore, students are not able to do an extra activity like playing sports,
playing an instrument or joining a club at the university. Finally, people can find
just a few educational programs at online education. If a person wants to
become a doctor or a lawyer. He must study at a traditional university. These
institutions are the only ones allowed to give the student a degree that is
recognized in the entire world.
In any education model, it is very important to have quality teachers. Also, it is
necessary to perform engaging lesson plans, so that the student can build his
own knowledge and dont get confused and bored. Every education plan
should have clear standards and objectives. It is important to know what the
student is looking for learn, and at the end of the course, he would notice if he
had achieved what he wanted. Additionally, timely feedback is elemental.
Students need to investigate more about the topic they are currently studying.
Thus, they could have their own doubts that can be discussed in class or with
the teacher. Finally, in an online or traditional education, the student must have
a continuous evaluation. With every evaluation, teachers and students can

some disadvantages like less human contact or few courses, online education
is the best choice for a person that doesnt have too much time for studying.
