FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Appropriate fire extinguishing media:

Hydrocarbons foam, water spray, dry powder and carbon dioxide

(CO2).

Specific risks:

Usual combustion produces carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapour,

sulfur and nitrogen oxides. Incomplete combustion may produce
carbon monoxide.

Special methods:

Cool with water spray all containers exposed to fire. Remove

containers from fire area, if possible without running additional risks.

Protection of emergency personnel:

In closed environments, use rescue equipment with autonomous air

supply.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Individual precautions
- Removal of sources of ignition:

Eliminate all sources of ignition, avoid sparks, flames and do not

smoke in risk area. Isolate the leakage from all sources of ignition.

- Dust control:

Does not apply (liquid product).

- Prevention of inhalation, skin, eye and

mucous membranes contact:

Use impermeable boots, clothes and gloves, closed security goggles

for chemical products and adequate respiratory protection.

Environmental precautions:

Try to stop the leakage, if possible without running additional risks. Do

not direct the spilled product to public drainage and sewage systems.
Avoid the contamination of surface waters and spring waters. Restrict
the spilled product to as small an area as possible. Avoid using water.
In case of using water, further treatment of contaminated water must
be taken into account.

Clean up procedures
- Recovery:

Collect the product into emergency containers appropriately labeled

and well tightened. Keep the recovered product for subsequent
elimination.

- Neutralization:

Absorb with soil or other absorbent material.

- Disposal:

Do not dispose together with ordinary garbage. Do not discharge in

sewage systems and waterways. Confine, if possible, for subsequent
recovery or disposal. The final disposal of this material should be
supervised by a specialist, following applicable environmental
legislation.

Note:

Contact local environmental agency, in case of spillage or

contamination of surface waters, spring waters or soil.

HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING
Technical measures:

Provide local exhausting ventilation systems where processes

require. All system conducting elements in contact with the product
should be electrically grounded. Use anti-spark tools.

- Overexposure prevention:

Utilize personal protective equipment to avoid direct contact with the

product.

All previous

Always handle product under strict adherence to general industrial

security and hygiene recommendations.

STORAGE
Technical measures:

The floor of the storage room must be impermeable, non-oxidizing

and with contention dikes to retain the product in case of leakage.

Storage conditions
- Recommended:

Store in tanks, at 60C and atmospheric pressure. Temperature of

60C helps in the draining. Higher temperatures may degrade the
product.

- To avoid:

Avoid storing near strong oxidizing agents and sources of ignition.

Incompatible products and material:

Strong oxidizing agents (peroxides, chlorates, chromic acid, etc).

EXPOSURE CONTROL AND PERSONAL PROTECTION

Engineering control measures:

Handle the product in naturally or mechanically well ventilated areas,

to keep vapours concentration below the threshold limit.

Control parameters
- Occupational exposure limits
- Threshold values (USA, ACGIH):

Oil mist:

TLV/TWA: 5 mg/m .

Personal protective equipment

- Respiratory protection:

At low concentrations, use breathing apparatus with chemical filter for

organic vapours. At high concentrations, use autonomous breathing
apparatus or pressure demand airline respirator.

- Hand protection:

PVC gloves for activities in direct contact with the product.

- Eye protection:

For operations in which there may be splashes and spills, it is

recommended the usage of closed security goggles or facial
protection.

- Skin and body protection:

If necessary, use impermeable apron.

Special precautions:

Emergency showers and eyewash fountains should be provided in

handling areas. Avoid prolonged or frequent contact with the product.

Hygiene measures:

Clean clothes and shoes after use. General control methods in

industrial hygiene must be sufficient to minimize product
overexposure. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling chemical
products. Separate working clothes from ordinary ones.
