DISNEY RESORTS TO BUILD STAR WARS-THEMED LANDS

Plans Call for Disneys Largest Single-Themed Land Expansion Ever

ANAHEIM, CA.: Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger announced today that a Star
Wars-themed land will be coming to two Disney parks. Construction for this expansion is
expected to begin in 2017 at the Disneyland Park in Anaheim, CA, and the Walt Disney World
Resort in Orlando, FL. The announcement was made at D23, a biennial exposition event
hosted by the Walt Disney Fan Club and attended by over 7,500 Disney fans.
We will soon be transporting our guests to some of the most anticipated worlds from one
of our most treasured franchises, said Disney Imagineer Scott Trowbridge.
At 14 acres in both parks, this is Disneys largest and most ambitious single-themed
project to date. The expansion will feature two signature rides, one of which places guests
directly in the Millennium Falcon. The Star Wars-themed lands aim to bring to life iconic Star
Wars characters and locations such as the well-known Cantina from the first film.
The shop keepers and servers will all be in costume, which is a huge thing for
Disney as they dont typically do that, said theme park historian Jim Hill.

The expansion at the Anaheim location will be built adjacent to Frontierland, with some
rides closing in order to commence construction. To accommodate the anticipated rise in theme
park attendance, Disneyland will build a 5,000-space parking garage while the Orlando location
has proposed additional parking garages and bridges.
I am so looking forward to great new adventures in one of my favorite theme parks,
said Disney fan and D23 attendee Marie Edinger.
D23 has been highlighted by appearances from the Star Wars cast, as well as the 2015
Disney Legends awards, of which George Lucas was a recipient of. Also revealed at D23 were
the announcements of future films such as Moana and Toy Story 4.
