SECTION 1: Findings
Congress makes the following findings:
1) A great job, a good social reputation are few of the many benefits of
being an educated person. Education is a must for a promising and secure
future and a stable life. (II)
2) Education is important in life because it gives people the skills and
tools they need to navigate the world. (I)
3) Without education, people would not be able to read, write, calculate
or communicate. They would also not be able to perform jobs competently,
accurately and safely. (I)
4) Education also teaches people about the world in which they live,
including information about history, philosophy and culture. (I)
SECTION 2: Purpose
The purpose of this bill is to establish that all U.S. citizens must attend compulsory
education so that they attain a high school degree, regardless of which form of
education parents or guardians choose.
SECTION 3: General Provisions
This bill will establish that education will be compulsory until the citizen has
completed and attained a high school diploma, effective when the bill becomes a
law. The bill will apply to all U.S. citizens under the age of 18 once it becomes a
law. Parents and guardians will be responsible for deciding which type of
education children will receive, whether or not it is homeschool, private school,
charter school, etc.
Education is, without a doubt, crucial for the nations growth. Every child should have
equal opportunities for their education. Requiring all U.S. citizens to have
attained a high school degree will ensure a better-informed and better-skilled
population, as well as provide the less educated a more equal standing with the
better-educated.
Every child is unique in the way they best learn. Some thrive in homeschooled
settings, some thrive in private and specialized schools, and some, especially
those with disabilities, need special care. Rather than forcing every child to take
a single way of education that will only benefit the few, parents or guardians will
have the freedom of choice in which type of education their child will receive. In
this way, each child will not only be more educated but also receive equal
educational opportunities.
