Chapter 1

What Do You Believe?

They must find it difficult...They who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority. In other words, They must find it hard to take truth for authority who have so long mistaken authority for truth. —Gerald Massey (Egyptologist), Lectures c.1900. (29 May 1828 - 29 October 1907).

Here is how I say it; Hearing the truth after we have believed a lie for a long time, and sometimes for all our life, makes the truth seems like a lie.

As you read the truth contained in this book, your first instinctive reaction may be no, that can't be true! You may go from the stage of shock to denial, then self-defense, anger and finally the realization that you might possibly have been duped and lied to, before you accept the reality as the truth. It is also said that the three stages of truth is ridicule, violent opposition and acceptance.

Apostle Paul warned us to Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Messiah (Jesus Christ). Colossians 2:8.

Here is an interesting conversation between two individuals:

Question: What do you believe?

Answer: I believe what my church believes.

Q: What does your church believe?

A: My church believes what I believe.

Q: What do both of you believe?

A: We both believe the same thing.

The unspoken truth is that I really cannot explain in detail what myself and my church actually believe and why. But I believe that we are right. And I am happy. Isn't that all that matter?

Have you heard someone say;

It is a fact that many of us hold on to a belief system because of heritage, cultural, ethnic or social affiliation, and not because we have diligently proven it to be the ultimate truth.

And so is our overall life styles; the way we eat, drink, dress, talk, sing, move, do business and relate to others may not necessarily be to God's glory. Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31.

It is sad to say that many believers cannot comfortably prove their beliefs to be in complete harmony with the Word of God. Many hold on to the traditions that were taught by their parents, and their religious leaders without asking the important questions such as; Why are there so many religions and denominations? What is the proof that I am in the right and not in the wrong association? Somehow each individual sect, group, denomination or religion, believes she is the perfectly right one while all others are wrong. A church is referred to as a woman in the Bible, Revelation 12:1-17, 17:1-18. Of course it does make sense to think that way. People who take God and religion seriously will choose one denomination or religion over another when they are convinced that it is the best as far as the Bible or their conscience is concerned. All born again Christians believe that the Bible is authoritatively the inerrant and infallible word of God.

We know that there is one God, one Jesus Christ, one Holy Spirit, and that They are in one accord. We also know that there is one heaven for us to go as the ultimate destination at Christ's second coming. It is important to note here that people do not go straight to heaven or to hell fire when they die. When Jesus Christ comes back the second time, ...the dead in Christ (those saints who are sleeping in the grave) shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain (the living Saints) shall be caught up (raptured) together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord (Jesus Christ) in the air (because His feet will not touch the ground): and so shall we ever be with the Lord (because He is taking us with Him to spend 1000 years in heaven before returning the third time, with us, inside 'the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,' to this earth, to be made new, and we shall live with Him forever. Amen!) 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, John 14:1-3, Revelation 20:1-6, 21:1-5.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Ephesians 4:4-6.

Why then are there so many different understandings and conflicting interpretations of the Word of God? Why do we have confusion? Satan, the enemy of souls, who is also known as the Devil is responsible for this. He causes confusion and uses it to his own advantage. He deceives, captures and destroys. But God the Creator is the direct opposite of him in his attributes.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:33.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, in 2 Timothy 2:15 is encouraging us to avoid deception by reading The Bible. He says: Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. And Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21.

But instead, God declared; My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to Me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children. Hosea 4:6.

God is giving us another chance: And you shall know the Truth (Jesus Christ), and the Truth shall make you free. ...If the Son (Jesus Christ) therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:32, 36.

For us to be free we must study. We need to be like the Bereans who were commended for diligence because they ...were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11.

But again, There is a sad neglect of reading the Bible and searching it with humble hearts for yourselves. Take no man's explanation of Scripture, whatever his position, but go to the Bible and search for the truth yourselves. — Testimony to Ministers, pg. 155, 1890.

Many are deceived today in the same way as were the Jews. Religious teachers read the Bible in the light of their own understanding and traditions; and the people do not search the Scriptures for themselves, and judge for themselves as to what is truth; but they yield up their judgment, and commit their souls to their leaders. The preaching and teaching of His word is one of the means that God has ordained for diffusing light; but we must bring every man's teaching to the test of Scripture. Whoever will prayerfully study the Bible, desiring to know the truth, that he may obey it, will receive divine enlightenment. He will understand the Scriptures. 'If any man desires to do His will, he shall know of the teaching.' John 7:17, R. V. —Desire of Ages, pg. 459.1.

Prejudice Bars Enlightenment: Those who allow prejudice to bar the mind against the reception of truth cannot receive the divine enlightenment. Yet, when a view of Scripture is presented, many do not ask, Is it true-in harmony with God's word? But, by whom is it advocated? And unless it comes through the very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it. So thoroughly satisfied are they with their own ideas that they will not examine the Scripture evidence with a desire to learn, but refuse to be interested, merely because of their prejudices. —Gospel Workers, 125, 126 (1893). For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

The Bible, the Word of God, is the love letter from God to every class, race, tribe, gender and religion. Therefore the Bible is for everyone to read. And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people. Revelation 14:6. And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20. But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8.

Chapter 2

Perfectly Created in the Beginning

In the beginning God ['elohiym (el-o-heem')] created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1.

God Created a Perfect World...

And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31.

He had made everything beautiful in His time...the work that God made from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalm 19:1.

Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:8.

I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Your works; ... Psalm 139:14.

The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours: as for the world and the fullness thereof, You had founded them. Psalm 89:11.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Psalm 90:2.

...But men disobeyed the commandments of God and sin entered the world. Genesis 3.

Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1John 3:4.

Then came sorrow and death: For the wages of sin is death... Romans 6:23.

So the deterioration deepens by the day as we approach the end of the world.

Now is the time for Revival of Holiness and True Godliness.

Chapter 3

The Signs of the End

- Moral decays, falsehood and deceptions by false prophets and false teachers -

...the signs of the times... are all too obvious to ignore. Matthew 16:2, 3.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers (one who violates a truce, covenant, or engagement), false accusers, incontinent (uncontrolled indulgence of the passions), fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the Power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ...these (men)...resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men.... (Praise God for verse 9 which guarantees our freedom from the deceptions of these many false teachers which the Lord will reveal to you in this book as you read through it.) But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:1-9, 13.

Here are more signs that we are in the last days:

...and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory (not quietly or secretly). And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws near. Luke 21:25-28.

Just like you and me, the disciples of Jesus Christ wanted to know the signs that would alert them of the second coming of Jesus Christ, which is also the end of the world. Imagine yourself sitting at the feet of Jesus Christ as you read the response He gave:

And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world? (Not the end of the age, but the end of the world) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; (but not that all the world will be converted) and then shall the end come. But pray you that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day: Then if any man shall say unto you, lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (The very elect are the born again Christians who are totally surrendered to Jesus Christ, full of the Holy Ghost and are daily overcoming sins by the power of Jesus Christ, while they are eagerly expecting His second coming. They also make every effort to keep all his Ten Commandments including the Sabbath.) Behold, I have told you before. Matthew 24: 3-25.

Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1 Timothy 4:1, 2.

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Revelation 16:13, 14.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1.

Just as Satan disguised himself in the form of a serpent in the Garden of Eden, he is doing so now in the form of an angel of light and his ministers as the ministers of righteousness. Many pastors, who stand up to preach in the pulpit of Christian churches today speak the lies of Satan mixed up with the truth of Jesus Christ, just as the serpent spoke the truth of God mixed with the lies of Satan to Eve in the garden of Eden in Genesis chapter 3. By using this method, Satan was able to accomplish his goal which was to entice and deceive Eve and Adam, then embolden and encourage them to disobey the law of the God who created them and loved them.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming (masquerading) themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed (disguised) into an angel of light (but he is not an angel of light. He is just an impersonator). Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed (show themselves) as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15.

Among the most successful agencies of the great deceiver are the delusive teachings and lying wonders of spiritualism. Disguised as an angel of light, he spreads his (trapping) nets where least suspected. If men would but study the Book of God (the Bible) with earnest prayer that they might understand it, they would not be left in darkness to receive false doctrines. But as they reject the truth they fall a prey to deception. —The Great Controversy, p. 524, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly (secretly) they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits... Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. Matthew 7:15-23.
