my achievements, I think it means I get
to say this: Taking the time to look back,
I can say in all honesty that in my
generation, we were mixed martial
artists before the term was even invented!
Wait! Relax! Stop throwing your Mountain Dew and Cheetos and chill out!
Listen up. In our day, you had to get a black belt in karate and judo and jiu-jitsu
to be a true mixed martial artist (and yeah, I really did walk a few miles in the
snow to get to my dojo every dayfor real).
So please, if youre serious about your training and you love the UFC and
MMA as much as we do here, then Im begging youlearn your basics now.
Listen to your wrestling coach, your sensei, your sifu. Practice, practice, practice.
And remember, its better to be good at a couple of things than mediocre at a lot
of things. Just ask the dude (or lady) who made somebody surrender to a
savage armbar or knocked out their opponent in the octagon. Theyll tell you.
And I hope in the future youll look back over your last 20 or 40 years and feel
good about what youve accomplished. I know I have.

Tiny.
That is Emanuel Yarbroughs nickname, and he
is a familiar face to mixed martial arts fans worldwide. At 6
feet 7 inches, at one time topping the scales at more than
800 pounds, Yarbrough holds the Guinness World Record
as the Worlds Largest Athlete.
He is also a former UFC fighter.
Now at 48 years of age, the man who competed in UFC
3 in 1994 has shed roughly 100 of those pounds after
suffering major health setbacks.
Yarbrough competed professionally as a mixed martial
artist three times with his only win coming at Shoot the
Shooto XX against Tatsuaki Nakano via submission due to
smother (no surprise there) at just 1:17 in the first round.
At UFC 3, he lost to Keith Hackney by TKO, who then
adopted the apt nickname, The Giant Killer.

Yarbrough gained worldwide notoriety as a superstar in the

He does not know the exact number of matches that he has

Earlier this year Yarbrough was inducted the MMA Hall of

I look at some of the guys in this hall and I know Im not on

ASC Soldiers Roll Out Mats to Roll Up the Enemy

Atten-hut! Soldiers of the Army Sustainment
Command gathered and paired up on mats at the
RIA Community Fitness Center for some of the most
energetic schooling they are likely to ever receive.
Level 4 tactical combative instructors Sgts. 1st
Class Travis Nargang and Jay Denton closely
watched the students of their level 1 Modern Army
Combatives course.
To see the Soldiers grasp the concept and execute the moves after showing them is great, said
Nargang. To see them apply the moves without
thinking them through shows that not only is their
skill level increasing, but also their confidence.
Nargang trains off post at the Miletich Training
Center in Bettendorf, Iowa. The training center was
once the former stomping grounds of Ultimate

Fighting Championship legends Matt Hughes, Tim

Sylvia, and Jens Pulver and has been referred to as
the mecca of the mixed martial arts world.
Capt. Marsha Reveal, the ASC deputy surgeon
and environmental science and engineering officer,
believes it is imperative for all leaders to be able to
defend themselves and their Soldiers if needed.
All leaders should be confident enough to step
in, pull their weight, take a fair share of the work, if
Soldiers lives are at stake or at risk, said Reveal.
This applies to combat obviously, but also in realworld scenarios. Particularly for a female, this training is physically demanding, but provides the
confidence a female needs if she is attacked.

A typical week of workouts for the 30

And just how did Ludwig get the

Well, first I got a text from Urijah and he

It turns out somebody else needed to

GREEK MMA GOD

Kratos, the mythological ass kicker, has a brutal MMA foundation.

Is Kratos the God of MMA?

By Kerry Michael Li
Kratos, the original Mr. Cranky Pants, is hackin, slashin and bashin his way through
SCEAs God of War: Ascension (PS3), the best iteration of the Greek mythology brawler.
Vincent Napoli, a Senior Combat Designer for Santa Monica Studios, when talking about
how they choreograph and orchestrate all of the combat, says, We make sure all the brutality and gore has the tone were going for.
So does that make Kratos the God of War and MMA? We have a lot of MMA fans on our
team, we keep a library of highlight reels. Kratos kind of originated from MMA, he likes to get
his hands on people.
Adding fire, ice and electricity to Kratos spinning blades enhances the gameplay as do
the gorgeous graphics including bare, jiggly CGI breasts.
We dont have a Senior Topless Women designer, Vince claims, I guess the director is
not going to want to be called that, but hes definitely hands on with a lot of that stuff.
Wouldnt you be, too?
Is the Greek god rendered via motion capture by having a guy punching and kicking with a
bunch of green dots glued to his bod?
We dont do motion capture, no. It looks a little floaty, a little weak. Its easier to artistically
create what we need. A good kick takes a month to build in the computer. And Kratos foot is
actually modeled on somebody whos 10 feet tall.
Thats gotta hurt.

ASK THE HOT CHICK...MMA RELATIONSHIPS

COURTESY OF SUNSHINE SPRING

Act like a man

not a boy!

Has This Dude Ever Asked Out A Woman?

Question
Hey Hot Chick,
I want to ask this girl out, but any chick I date needs to like MMA.
Pete in Chicago
Pete,
First & foremost, heres a quick difference between men and boys: Men take women out on dates; Boys want to
hang out.
Clearly, taking women out on dates is the superior move. Still, a lot of guys arent sure how to ask out a woman,
especially if the man has stipulations. Do not feel bad its not something at which our generation excels. A lot of
guys need a few pointers on how to do this the right way.
First, call her on the phone. Dont ask her out via text message or Facebook chat or whatever. You need to pick up
your fancy smartphone and actually dial her number. This shows that youre a confident man and it gives you a far
better stance from which to ask for the date.
Further, shell take you much more seriously than if you make plans via texting or chat. Youll set this interaction
apart from others, subtly making the point that shes special enough to put in the effort of real-time communication.
Then make sure you have plans in order. When you call a woman for a date, you need to have something to do. In
fact, you need to have three things to do, because she might not like the first one. If you pitch her three and shes
not interested in any of them, you can be confident that she just doesnt want to go out with you and you can also
eliminate whether she likes MMA.
Good Luck MMA Lover...

How A Single Glove

HELP ME!
Even the casual MMA fan today would
look at Arts predicament and know that he
was in some deep doo-doo. But this was
1993. Art couldnt Google a video of his opponent snapping somebodys arm in half or
watch a how to on escaping the mount.
He couldnt even look up videos of cats
being adorable.
Art sensed he was in trouble though, so
he pulled Royce towards him in an attempt
to keep the Brazilian from doing whatever
the hell it is a jiu-jitsu master does. The
irony: the glove Jimmerson wore to protect
Gracie would now make gripping his gi as
impossible as stopping GSP from getting a
takedown.
After sixty seconds of trying to telepathically disintegrate his one glove, Art was
forced to tap. It wasnt an armbar or a
kimura that did him in though. He tapped to
a cocktail of fear, frustration and at ton of
confusion. The experienced Vale Tudo ref
looked to Jimmerson the way you might look
at someone who folds their hand before anyone made a bet in poker, but it was too late
and Art had had enough of whatever it was
Royce Gracie was doing to him.

Colorado. So has the rest of the world. To
the 1993 viewer of UFC 1, Arts behavior
probably didnt seem that questionable, and
if he had managed to connect with Royces
chin that night, I might be writing about how
Gracie didnt understand boxing.
Like the early humans who figured out
that fire was hot and that lions do not enjoy
having their tails pulled, the combatants who
stepped into the cage at UFC 1 learned lessons the hard way. These pioneers showed
the martial arts world the things that didnt
work and ideas like a single glove were
thrown out the window. What were left with
is the summation of thousands of Art
Jimmersons getting their asses kicked. A
unified martial art that takes into account all
the best of every discipline, giving us the

Art Jimmerson changed the

world of mixed martial arts as much as
Royce Gracie did, and he didnt even throw
a single punch.
For those who dont remember Art
Jimmerson, he was that guy who wore one
glove in his fight against Royce Gracie at
UFC 1. An IBC boxing champion with 20
KOs, Art was set to face a guy twenty
pounds lighter than he was who wore a
funny judo top, as one announcer called it.
Art decided on just one glove that night
because two bare fists from his experienced
hands didnt seem fair to little Royce.
Unbeknownst to Jimmerson, he could have
worn a flaming chainsaw on his hand that
night it wouldnt have mattered.
Confused by Gracies movement, judo
top and leg kicks, Jimmerson never threw a
real strike in the minute before Gracie
feinted and went for the takedown. Once on
the ground, it took Gracie less than five seconds to go from side control to full mount,
making Art Jimmerson the new mayor of
F***edville.

Fans of MMA Collectibles know Round
5. And Round 5s Damon Lau knows his fans.
At the UFC Fan Expo, our fans line up
300-400 people deep and they buy all the
product that we allow them to, Lau says.
Those products often end up in bidding
wars on eBay.
We listen to our fans! he says. We have
an active Facebook community of over 168K
who request a wide range of figures from
champions of today like GSP, Anderson and
Cain to the stars that helped build this sport
in the 90s. If a fighter is memorable, likeable

Getting hurt? Tony El Cucuy

Ferguson (13-3) feels like it comes with
the territory. Football? Baseball? MMA?
Injuries are just par for the course.
This 511 (6 on a good day), 155pound lightweight from Costa Mesa,
California, trains with Reign and has been
feeling wonderful lately and like he should
be doing more. Wait training and fighting after an arm break and multiple surgeries isnt enough?
Ultimate MMA: Youre tall for a
lightweight. Are you comfortable at your
weight? Is there pressure to bulk up?
Tony Ferguson: In college I used to
wrestle a little bit lighter, but now, I guess
my training is more structured. Signing
with Paradigm brought in a couple of
nutritionists, so now its all about power
foods. Building lean muscle, especially
after the injury.
UMMA: Tell us about how you broke
your arm during the Michael Johnson UFC
fight.
TF: It was crazy. It was a good one, then
all of a sudden it was havoc. It was
survival. He threw a set of roundhouse
kicks from a south-paw position, I used my
arm to shield it. It felt like it was hurt, not
injured. But it cracked the ulna. I just
fought my way through it. Ive been in
sports a long time, Im used to getting hit.
Then later they told me it was broken.

UMMA: You had to get two surgeries to

fix it?
TF: It was crazy shattered. The first
surgery didnt go so well. After six months
I was only at about 75%. So I went to a
different doctor and got a second opinion.
He said the plate I had in there was for an
average person, so they put in a huge
plate that has nine screws in it.
UMMA: Do you set off metal detectors
at airports now?
TF: Yeah. Ive actually set off a couple. Its
funny. Sometimes when security checks
me at the door with one of those wands,
they go off! They get freaked out and ask,
Whats that? And I say, I got a plate in
my arm, dude!
UMMA: What was your mental frame of
mind in dealing with recovering from the
injury?
TF: Just forgetting about it. Mentally,
physically, Im looking past it to the point
where I have no limitations. Im not much
for talking about how I feel, how Im doing.
I like to show it instead.
UMMA: Do you think about it/ worry it
will happen again?
TF: I broke my arm in football a long time
ago. Things are going to happen in
contact sports. If youre not ready for it,
youre not in the right sport. Plus, there
are other people who worry for me. Im
not worried about winning, about losing,
Im just thinking about making it happen. I
cant be cautious.

UMMA: How are you preparing for UFC

166 in Houston?
TF: Staying focused. Lifting a lot more
weights. I put myself in check after seeing
myself in an interviewit looked like I was
having too much fun. Im here to win
championships. I have to get my record
back. I had a string of knock-outs.
UMMA: Whos a big influence in your
life?
TF: My dad hes my step-dad. Been in
the picture since I was young. This guy
always told me if youre going to do
something, then do itdont half-ass it.
Thats what formed me. He was in a
Tough Man competition back in the day,
so he knows how tough this can be. He
would watch those old UFC fights and I
thought it was the coolest thing. I knew I
wanted to be a professional fighter.
UMMA: What's the worst injury you've
had in your life - MMA or not?
TF: I was 16 and I flipped my dads 4Wheeler in Michigan. We had forty acres
by our house and my dad was like, Dont
ride the 4-Wheeler while Im gone. So I
found where he hid the keys and said to
my friends, Im gonna do this jump.
Instead of 4th gear, I hit 3rd instead,
launched myself off the jump into a briar
patch. I got concussed, got trapped
under the engine, burnt my arm, got 3rd
degrees on my leg. My dad saw the bent
handlebar later and asked if I rode it and I
said, Nooooo? Then he knew.

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR

Tony always knew the path he chose as a professional fighter would be difficult. But to him, the rewards were worth the risks.

what Im getting myself into. Dont be scared for me.

DARKNESS
Former Lions Den Fighter
Guy Mezger Relives the Early
Days of the Sport

By Guy Mezger with Adam Morra

Guy Mezger (30-14-2) has pretty much done it all, as it relates
to mixed martial arts. As one of the games original combatants
and earliest Lions Den members, the former 3-time King of
Pancrase and UFC 13 tournament champion exemplified what it
was to be a hard-nosed battler.
COMPETITION IN THE EARLY DAYS
The UFC really altered the entire martial arts establishment
more so than kickboxing did. Now, kickboxing and its full-contact
aspect changed martial arts and there was a lot of kickback on
that, but then, all of a sudden, here comes Royce Gracie and the
Gracie family with this no rules approach, and it shook up the
martial arts world.
THE EARLY RULES
In the very first one, I believe they had no eye gouging and no
bitingsomething like that. However, after witnessing the first
UFC, George Dillman, who was known as the pressure point,
knockout guy, claimed it wasnt really no-rules because there
were like 10,000 strikes one can do to the eyes. So the very next
UFC contained absolutely no rules, no time limits, no weight
classes and it was like that until UFC 14 or 15.
STILL A LONG WAY TO GO
It was a great marketing tool for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and Brazilian
jiu-jitsu exploded onto the scenebut it really wasnt a sport. It
was more of a spectacle because it wasnt athlete against
athlete, it was style against style. You know, theyd put a jiu-jitsu
guy against a wrestler, a wrestler against a boxer, a kickboxer
against a kung-fu guy, or whatever.
NEEDS SOME PIZZAZZ
In those days, a lot of matches would get stale because the
fighters could neutralize each other and the action would slow
down a great deal. Probably one of the least exciting matches of

Saint in the City

Recently in a Dallas, Texas parking lot,
Guy Mezger happened upon a disturbing
scenario. He felt compelled to intervene.
I came out of a store and saw this guy
pushing his girlfriend around, says
Mezger.
After a small crowd formed, Mezger
tried to calm the guy down, but he started
to get aggressive.
Finally, he came at me. He was a
horrible fighter. It kind of reminded me of
when you put your hand on a little kids
head while hes swinging at you. It was
that bad! I kind of grabbed him as he got
closer to me.
Then things took a turn for the worse.
Suddenly, he bit me in the chest and
tried grabbing my groin with his free
hand, so I took him down with a head and
arm throw and he hit the concrete, which
basically knocked him out.
Guy then began to assist the woman.
Unfortunately, he got up at the same
time and came at me with a right hand,
which I blocked. There was a knife in the
guys hand, which I hadnt seen. I hit him
and when he fell to the ground, I spotted
the knife and I was like Oh, wow! I didnt
see that. I could have gotten cut. Then I
looked at my hand and I realized Oh, I am
cut! And that was basically it.
The police arrived and later Mezger
found out there was a felony warrant for
the guys arrest for a parole violation.
To be honest, I appreciate all the
kudos people have been giving me for
doing this thing, but it wasnt a hero
thing. It was just the right thing.

IN THOSE DAYS, A
LOT OF MATCHES
WOULD GET STALE.
GUY MEZGER ON EARLY UFCs

all time was Royce Gracie and Ken

Shamrock, because Royce had to be
extremely conscientious of the fact that
if Ken whacked him, Royce would be in
trouble. So it wasnt the most exciting
match for thirty-something minutes.

A Look Back at the Pioneering Days of MMA,

with lots of Bumps in the Road for a Man Born
to Fight John Lober
By John Lober with Tony Reid

A NEW SPORTA NEW ATHLETE

The rules and time limits give you a
good basis from which to set up a
training rhythm. Because of this, we
now have a true mixed martial arts
athlete, as opposed to a karate athlete
or a boxing athlete doing no-holdsbarred and hes getting a lot of respect.
BUT IS IT STILL TRUE COMBAT?
A lot of people say, Oh, its not as
real, but actually it is. Street fights are
over very quickly. No fights last thirty
minutes. If Im in a wrestling match with
a guy that long, my friends are going to
come up and kick the guy in the head
or his friends are going to come up and
kick me in the head. So its not realistic
to say that its a real street situation,
because its not.

ohn Lober has led an interesting life.

European No Rules cage fighting, brawls
on the street, serving time in prison for
assault, training in Brazil surrounded by
prostitutes. All part of the journey of a man in
search of himself.

ZUFFA TO THE RESCUE

Mezger was involved in one of the
planning meetings for UFC 3 because
they wanted him to fight in UFC 4.
Im a pretty smart bear, so they
asked me to come in and listen to what
was going on. I quickly realized the
original group knew nothing about the
fight business. They were completely
uneducated about the fact that it wasnt
going to last. The harder they dug in the
sand about no rules, the quicker their
form of UFC was going to die. And it
did. Then Zuffa and Dana White got
together, put rules in and got it
sanctioned by the boxing commission in
Vegas. This was a huge deal for the
growth of the sport because Vegas sets
standards for the fight business and
thats what really pushed it into a much
more legitimate light.

I competed in some of the earliest UFC and MMA events. Actually it

simply, Holy sh**, youre gonna pay me cash? Im in! They were gonna
have to kill me to beat me. My performance was brilliant at the start of

SOME PAINFUL MEMORIES

My fondest memory of that time was being ranked second in the
world at the time and being able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I
wanted. By the time I made it to the UFC for my fourth title fight, they
were trying to implement a lot of rules. The company was losing money
on the deal and it kind of just lost its luster for me. Having to call and
insist they put the funds in the account so I could cash their check, plus
being housed in the armpit of Brazil with the swarming hookers they
shacked me up with was all part of it. But I loved it!

JOHN LOBER

UFC IN ITS INFANCY

The old school was more about fighting. No weight classes. No time
limits. No rules and no prime time national television. No support
whatsoever. Some had to fight eight man tournaments. Now its a posh
sport. Today, I can watch the UFC, with no sound, on three channels
while bowling and watch two fighters and not ever know their names
because the UFC is building the UFC. Does this mean they dont care
about the fighters? We used to pay for every PPV. Not anymore. Only
significant fighters and significant fights interest me. I am still my favorite
fighter. As I look around now, I think this an epidemic and an international
monopoly. It is just so much bigger than just fighting.

John The Machine Lober in his glory days.

THERE ARE LIMITS

My wife and I had Bas Rutten and his family over for dinner. Bas said

How Elite Fighters

Are Gaining An Edge:
The secret that helps Johnny Buck Nasty stay strong,
round after round
In the third round of the February 14th Bellator MMA event
this year in North Carolina with
his opponent trying to catch his
breath, gasping for air Johnny
Buck Nasty started grinning. He
thought, This is awesome. Johnny
knew his intensity didnt waver
one bit during the bout while his
opponent was obviously fatigued.
Johnny won his match in the third
round by a unanimous decision,
thanks in part, to a new supplement that claims to give fighters
an edge.
The supplement Johnny has
been using is EPO-BOOST - an
all-natural sports supplement
developed by U.S. based Biomedical Research Laboratories. EPO is
a hormone that is naturally produced in the body and primarily
functions to stimulate the production of new red blood cells.
Increasing the amount of red
blood cells increases the oxygen
carrying capacity of the blood to
deliver more oxygen to exercising muscles. The extra oxygen
significantly increases the muscles
energy production and can

therefore help to improve athletic

performance output ability; higher
intensity and greater endurance.
Traditional techniques for
boosting RBC levels include
synthetic drugs and blood doping.
These practices are both dangerous and banned by organized
sports associations. The makers of
EPO-BOOST claim that their patent-pending formula is all-natural
and is clinically shown to safely
increase erythropoietin levels,
resulting in greater strength and
endurance.
Johnny said, On February 14, I
never got tired. I was fired up the
whole time. And when Im training, were doing 8-10-12 minute
rounds and my intensity hangs in
there. The level of intensity Ive
been putting out compared to the
other guys I train with they cant
keep up.
A short while ago in training
camp, I was going faster than all
my training partners. They ran
out of partners for me. I know
its because my training includes
EPO- BOOST. I refuse to train
without it.

What makes this formula different

from other energy/performance
supplements?
The patent-pending EPOBOOST formula contains a highly
concentrated form of Echinacea
purpurea to increase EPO levels,
red cell nutrients and a blend of
iron rich natural substances to
increase red blood cell production, plus additional ingredients
for maximum endurance output,
including increased blood flow.
Clinical studies appear to
validate the EPO-BOOST
formulas effectiveness. A 28-day
double-blind placebo-controlled
clinical trial, performed by Dr.
Whitehead from the Department
of Health and Human Performance
at Northwestern State University,
showed that the active ingredient
in EPO-BOOST increased EPO
production by over 90% compared
to the group taking the placebo.1
The supplement group also showed
dramatic improvements in athletic
performance (as measured by VO2max and running economy).
Johnny Buck said, Its an
amazing product. If youre in
MMA or other high-performance
sports, Id definitely give it a shot.
EPO-BOOST is the only product
Ive used where I can noticeably
tell when Im training with it or
without it. My coach cant wear
me out during cardio. In fact my
cardios so good, he puts me on

oxygen-deprivation training to
restrict the flow of oxygen. Yes, I
get tired, but my recovery between
rounds is phenomenal. Imagine
yourself feeling this way when you
train or fight.
Any athlete can use EPOBOOST without a prescription
and without changing their diet
or exercise regimen. The company
offers an unparalleled guarantee.
Athletes can use the product for a
full 90 days and if not completely
satisfied, send back whatever product is remaining - even an empty
bottle - and get a no questions
asked refund.
A company spokesman confirmed a special offer: if you order
this month, youll receive Free
Enrollment into the companys
Elite Athlete Club where youll
qualify to receive a full 25%
discount on all your bottles of
EPO-BOOST. And so you dont
go a day without EPO-BOOST
in your system - increasing your
endurance, youll automatically receive a fresh bottle every 30-days.
There are no minimum amounts
of bottles to buy and you can
cancel at any time. EPO-BOOST
is certified drug-free and does not
contain any harmful stimulants
or banned substances. You can

MIND
GAMES
Silva Messes With Your Head But
Luckily Weidman Has a Degree To
Cope With That
By Jatinder Dhoot

JOSH HEDGES/ZUFFA LLC

THE MIND GAMES OF ANDERSON SILVA

Nobody likes being made fun of.
Anderson Silva is a highly gifted athlete, technician and artist in the
cage but his mental game is also top notch. He exudes a confidence
designed to break his opponents frame of mind. And it usually works.
Until now.
All fighters have doubts and insecurities. Silva is a master of
tapping into those weaknesses during a fight and forcing them to the
surface. However, Chris Weidman has a degree in Psychology and
knew this going in to their last fight. He was prepared to deal with the
mind tricks of the The Spider.
Well take a look of three tactics Anderson uses to draw fighters
into his tangled web and what Weidman did in order to avoid getting
sucked into that game.
And come out on top.

STARING YOU DOWN

Anderson Silvas highlight reel is scary
enough, but when youre staring into his
eyes at a pre-fight press conference or
weigh-ins, thats when the terror hits
home. Silva can mentally defeat his
opponents even before they step into the
Octagon by getting into their heads in
stare-downs leading up to the fight.
Weidman stayed strong during these
and even when Anderson pushed forward
and practically kissed him during their
weigh-in face-off, Weidman didnt let that
phase him. He laughed it off and didnt
freak out. Point Weidman. The scales
began to tip towards him.

Silva, weaving his web, will pull

you in and make you attack but
hes ready for you.

MAKING YOU PLAY HIS GAME

When somebodys in a cage trying to
kick your ass and mocking you with all
kinds of different tactics, no matter how
mentally calm you are, it does tap into
something deep inside you. And it can be
really irritating.
Anderson Silva is great at that very
thing. How does he get his opponents
minds discombobulated? By using a wide
array of tactics, like: putting his hands
down; laughing if you try and hit him;
dodging your punches in a haughty
manner; even pretending that you rocked
him with a punch when you didnt.
All this is to try and suck you into his
world and get you to trade with him. Silva
is great at many things in the cage, but
hes a master a counter-punching. When
fighters come at him with strikes, he is
able to counter them and knock them out.
Therefore Silva tries to irritate opponents
by mocking them and induce them to
push forward with strikes so he can knock
them out.
What Chris Weidman did well in his
fight with Silva was that he stayed
focused and got a punch in and then
moved out of the way. He didnt try and
get into a brawl with Silva, but took his

MAKING YOU FEEL INFERIOR

Asserting superiority goes hand in hand
with showboating.
Silva does a great job of making
fighters feel like they dont belong in the
same cage as him. Forrest Griffin noted in
comedic fashion that when he fought
Silva he threw punches at him and they
were dodged easily, then Silva gave him a
look like, Did you really think you were
going to hit me with that?
When your opponent easily avoids your
strikes with his hands down and then
gives you a look like youre an amateur,
suddenly that starts to mess with your
head.
That seed of doubt germinates
extremely quickly.
The same thing happened in Silvas
fight with Stephan Bonnar: Silva
introduced a new mental trick where he
taunted Bonnar to go off and hit him in
the face while he stood with his head
resting on the post along the top of the
cage. All of a sudden you start to feel a bit
humiliated, awkward and uncomfortable
and thats when things begin to fall apart.
Fortunately for Weidman, he reviewed
this tape before fighting Silva and he had
the insight to realize what Silva was doing
and how to combat it. So when Silva
started putting his hands on his hips and
let Weidman punch him, Weidman did not
panic. His perception of the situation was,
You can stand there and let me hit you,
thats great, Im scoring points and
winning the fight. He used it to his
advantage.

Will History Repeat Itself?

A Breakdown of Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva The Sequel
By Jatinder Dhoot
Chris Weidman predicted his fate
he said before his first fight with
Anderson Silva that he was going to win
and have to rematch Silva right away.
He was correct.
Although he didnt even think he was
going to win via KO, he pulled off a
classic moment in MMA history.
What about fight number two? Will he
pull it off again? Lets analyze it:
STRIKING
Weidmans striking is really good. Not
because he got he KO, but he was able
to land strikes prior to that as well in
the fight against Silva. His left hook was
a good weapon and Weidman also
landed a nice big right in the fight.
He avoided a lot of the hits from Silva
in terms of head kicks and also did a
nice job of dropping his hands and
avoiding jabs by Silva, trying to match
Silvas mind games. However, all that
being said, Silva is the better striker of
the two, and should be able to out-strike
Weidman in the second fight, should he
decide to return fire and not just stand
there and let Weidman attack without
countering.
If Silva decides to take a more serious
striking approach, he should land more
hits than Weidman. Silvas travelling to
Thailand to hone his muay Thai, so you
know The Spider is serious.
Edge: SILVA

40 | ULTIMATE MMA | www.ultimatemmamag.com

BJJ
Weidman has better BJJ, and now has
the confidence to realize he can stand
toe to toe with Silva and not have a
desperate attitude towards getting it to
the floor. He can relax a bit more on his
feet, without trying to get Silva
down ASAP.
If it goes to the ground, he still has the
tools to finish the fight, although Silva
did well in avoiding the leg attacks of
Weidman and got back up to his feet.
Edge: WEIDMAN
WRESTLING
Round one showed how good
Weidman is in wrestling. He took Silva
down fast and fluidly with a
great takedown. In the second round
Silva did amazingly well in keeping the
fight on his feet. I think a similar thing
will happen in fight two: Weidman gets a
takedown in the first, but in the following
rounds itll be harder to score.
Edge: WEIDMAN
CONFIDENCE
Weidman definitely displayed
confidence in fight one, but now its
through the roof. He knocked out the
most dangerous striker in MMA and beat
him in the area where he was supposed
to get creamed in. He now knows he can
tap him out and knock him out.
Lightning might not strike twice, but its
a huge confidence booster to KO a
legend. Silva, however, is a master of

confidence and although he was knocked

out, he believes in himself so much that it
wont matter. At least in his head.
Edge: EVEN
CARDIO
Neither fighter will get tired because
theyre well-trained and their minds are
too strong to fade. Both of these men put
in long hours training, sparring and
honing their skills and the stakes are
higher in this rematch, so neither side
will gas out.
Edge: EVEN
OUTCOME
I see a similar fight as the first one in
round one and two, except not as much
clowning from Silva and no KO by
Weidman.
I think Silva settles down with his
striking and picks apart Weidman and
goes in for a finish in the second round.
It wont be easy, but I think Silva will pick
up one or two deadly moves from
Thailand, perfect them, and use them in
the fight to win via KO.
Although this is a similar predication I
had for the first fight and I was
completely wrong but now I stand by
the pick in what is to surely be a very
even and interesting fight.
Winner: SILVA in a round two TKO

One of the unsung heroes in creating the UFC is Campbell

McLaren.
He executive produced the first 22 PPVs. McLaren worked for
the music organization BMG and was assigned to diversify the
company into non-music entities. Art Davie and Rorion Gracie
pitched the idea of the UFC to McLaren, and the wheels began to
spin in his head.
Inspired by the early 90s video game hit Mortal Kombat,
McLaren wanted to try and bring that type of video game superhero
and raw quality to the new Ultimate Fighting Championship.
If you look at the current state of the UFC, McClaren was one of
the forerunners to put his stamp on the organization. From bringing
Joe Rogan into the fold as well as Joe Silva as matchmaker.
Additionally, he was inspired by the original Conan The Barbarian
movie, where Conan fights in a stone octagon, which gave rise to
the now famous eight-sided fenced cagenow a symbol of combat
across the globe.
McClaren has had success with a variety of projects, from TV
production to working with Andrew Dice Clay and Iron Maiden.
I brought in the Joes (Rogan and Silva) and helped design the
octagon. In a lot of ways, the creative elements as they are now are
my creation.
For McClaren, he loves the UFC and speaks with pride and joy
about the organization. He likens the league to a child, one that was

fighters, leaving virtually every other organization stripped of

any significant amount of top-flight talent in each weight
class.
On top of that, the 125, 135 and 145 divisions have been
added and then, astoundingly, Dana White changed his
opinion about women in the fight game, allowing a womens
135 division into the fold with Ronda Rousey, making history
in 2013.
THE FUTURE
What will the next 20 years bring?

given up for adoption, but one

that he feels a strong attachment
to and enjoys visiting, noting that
he is treated very well by Dana
White and his staff when he
attends UFC events.
Its kind of like a high school
reunion for me. Al Connal is still
the producer, Don Gold is still in
charge of foreign and ancillary
sales. These are guys I brought in
and developed, says McClaren.
McClaren gives UFC president
Dana White and CEO Lorenzo
Fertitta a lot of credit for being
able to take the UFC to the next

level by creating the TUF series.

TV launched the UFC, TV saved the UFC. And by being smart
enough to figure that out and do a reality show. That was a great
idea.
What does the future hold for the UFC? McClaren sees
technology moving the sports-entertainment industry forward and
the UFC being the frontrunner of that boom.
Dana is going to be the one pushing out the new delivery
platforms. The UFC is going to help create others ways to watch
TV, not on TV: on your laptop; on your phone; on your toaster, he
says.
And since the UFC was born in the Internet era, as opposed to
other sports, which are catching up, that makes the UFC ingrained
into a very technologically forward-thinking culture and audience.
I think youre really going to see the UFC lead the charge in a
lot of ways in the new technology of viewing.

Highly athletic fighters are deciding these days to pursue

careers in MMA, instead of making lucrative money in football
or boxing, raising the bar even higher.
Advancements in performance enhancing science will
force the sport to wrestle with doping issues. Bigger TV
audiences and larger purses will bring high-level negotiations
to the table.
And through it all, we, the fans, will continue to enjoy what
started out, humbly, those 20 years agothe domination of
one man over another in the most primal of arenasthe
octagon.

Gracie.
A name long associated with the UFC and its first crowned champion.
We were fortunate enough to ask Rorion Gracie, a legend in his own right, a few
questions about the UFCs 20th Anniversary.
And proving the point that a good martial artist is effective, swift and to the point, he
kept his answers just like that:
Ultimate MMA: Along with Art Davie, you created the
UFC. Its now been 20 years since you did that. When you
look in retrospect, what comes to mind?
Rorion Gracie: The week preceding the first UFC was the
most intense and most rewarding of my life. First, because I
knew the martial arts community was going to be shocked by
the experience as they would see something they never
dreamed of, and secondly, I was able to pay homage to the
old man for all he had done!
UMMA: Would you do anything differently now?
RG: Absolutely not!
UMMA: What was the best part of those UFCs?
RG: They were educational in nature, they served the
purpose of enlightening the masses to what worked and what
didnt.
UMMA: What was the most difficult?
RG: The anticipation and wait for the first fight.
UMMA: What was the most enjoyable?
RG: Introducing my father as the First Ultimate Fighter.
UMMA: What did Royce and your art reveal to the world?
RG: Gracie jiu-jitsu is beyond any shadow of a doubt the most effective martial art
on the planet. It enables you to be comfortable even under the most stressful
situations imaginable, which is a metaphor on how one should live in order to find
peace in ones life.
UMMA: What are your thoughts on it being 20 years old?
RG: I am very proud with the way it keeps on growing.

GRACIE JIU-JITSU
IS BEYOND ANY
SHADOW OF A DOUBT
THE MOST EFFECTIVE
MARTIAL ART ON
THE PLANET.

UMMA: How far has Gracie Jiu-Jitsu come since 1993 and UFC I?
RG: It took over the world as I planned!
UMMA: Did you still watch it today? If so, what are your thoughts?
RG: I do not watch it.
UMMA: Anything else come to mind?
RG: I came to the realization that fighting was just a part of the big picture. Now
that I have accomplished my goal of sharing jiu-jitsu with the world, I have turned my
attention to sharing the Gracie Diet which I believe to be even more important than
jiu-jitsu itself. Be healthy!

Cool Under Fire

Review: Gameness 2013 Pearl Gi

DETAILS
Collar hugs the neck
without being
uncomfortable.
The Gameness Dog
embroidered on back of
the left leg is pretty cool.
Patch down the front
collar is well done, big
enough to get your name
out there.
The back is blank, easy
access to rep academies
and sponsors.
The top gives room to
move without feeling too
restrictive.

THIS SHADE IS LIKE A

DEEP OCEAN BLUE,
MEANING IT IS NICE IN
A MANLY TYPE OF WAY.

Observations
The gi is made extremely
well, great stitching and
not too cumbersome or
bad on the eyes. The
Gameness 2013 Pearl Gi
is a keeper for sure if you
are a competitor or just a
BJJ player.

BENEFITS
Top fits well and is hard to grip.
Pants stay up nicely.

DRAWBACKS
The Gameness shoulder patches dont
really seem to fit.

58 | ULTIMATE MMA | www.ultimatemmamag.com

Truth be told, I was super hyped to try

out this gi and when I opened the package the first
thing that stood out was the color. I am not a huge
fan of blue gis, but this shade is like a deep ocean
blue, meaning it is nice in a manly type of way.
I am 62 and 225+ pounds and am always stuck
between ordering an A4 or A5, so I tend to side with an A4 as I am losing body fat and
gaining lean muscle after every roll. I personally do not like gis that are too tight or that
are way too loose. After I washed it in cold water and hung it to dry, I tried it on with
much anticipation.
The gi top/jacket has a perfect fit, from the length of the arms to the length of the top
itself. I especially liked the difficulty my drill partners were having trying to get their grips
on my collar. Also when defending the spider guard, I was able to pummel in without the
gi sleeves being pulled damn near off my body.
One of my biggest issues with gi pants is that I have to pull the drawstrings and retie
them after each roll. That was not an issue with these pants, as they held up nicely.

Too tired? Too bad. Push through
it and get into the flow.
Be patientyoull get to the fancy
stuff eventually.

THE REASON WHY

STUDENTS QUIT BJJ
IS OFTEN RELATED
TO EGO.
TINGUINHA

THE USE OF EXCESSIVE STRENGTH

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a technical martial art
based purely on leverage rather than power.
Having the right position and grips will always
make you the stronger one in the match in
spite of your size.
It is very common, especially for beginning
students, to try to use excessive power during
training sessions. They think this will resolve
their problems or overcome obstacles they
may have trying to gain the upper hand. Every
time you have to use too much power, its a
sign that you are missing something in your
technique.
TOO MUCH EGO
The reason why students quit BJJ is often related to ego. When you train BJJ, you have to
put your ego to the side. You are gonna get
submitted. You are gonna get controlled. You
will have good days. You will have bad days.
The road from white belt to black belt is not an
easy one, but that is what makes this martial
art fun and challenging. Its all part of the learning process, so get over getting submitted on
the mat. Have fun and go train. Enjoy the journey.
AVOIDING YOUR WEAKNESSES
Everybody will have both strong aspects and
weaknesses in their BJJ game. So when it
comes to training time, they often try to stay in
their comfort zone. If you want to keep improving, you will want to work on your weaknesses.
Go ahead and put yourself in those uncomfortable positions and try to develop those parts
of your game, rather than avoiding them and

not learning. Thats the only way youre gonna

fix your problem areas and push your game to
the next level.
STOPPING TRAINING WHEN TIRED
There is a stage you have to get to in order to
understand the BJJ flow: that place where your
mind and your body are totally connected during training. It is all about feeling and reacting,
so for you to get to that level of understanding
of not using power you need to get tired first.
For a lot of people, when they start getting
tired, their first reaction is to take a break so
they can recover and get fresh again. That is a
mistakeyou need to keep training when you
are tired. That way, you get the connection of
moving with pure technique and getting your
mind and your body as one so you can react to
those situations without spending unnecessary
energy.
TRYING TO LEARN FANCY TECHNIQUES
BJJ is a very complex martial art. Its quite common for students to try to learn the fancy techniques first and stay away from the basics. If
you dont have a solid foundation, youre gonna
have serious problems in your game. Its extremely important to master the fundamentals
first before you try to learn anything else.
Dont worry... youll get to the fancy stuff in
time.

fighter and has been a huge influence in
his sons life.
Confidence, respect and discipline are
such important keys you learn in martial
arts. For kids, especially nowadays, they
need to learn how to defend themselves
and have the confidence to do so, she
says.
Integrating the discipline of the sport
has positive results in Dominics life. His
family and instructors have noticed huge
changes in his behavior.
Through the dojo, Dominic has learned
to interact with children way better. He
has learned through his training to be

more patient and controlled. He has also

learned how to control his anxiety.
COMPETING
Moya Brand is the first to sponsor child
athletes and they have been on board
with Dominic since the start of his career
in competition.
Being a parent myself, I am personally
aware of the many benefits that BJJ has to
offerincluding self-confidence,
sportsmanship and discipline, to name a
few. Jiu-jitsu also has a huge impact on
adults and children with physical and
mental disabilities, says Jesse Gonzalez,
owner of Moya Brand.
Dominic has increased his selfconfidence and a has a never-give-up
attitude.
That is the best thing about
sponsoring Dom, because those are skills
that he will carry with him as he grows
and becomes a young man. Hes
constantly pushing himself not only on the
mat, but off the mat as well, Gonzalez
explains.
BJJ VS. BULLIES
According to Gonzalez, BJJ is not just a
skillbut a life skill.
We live in a society where bullying has
become a major obstacle in the school
systems. By learning BJJ, we empower
our children with the necessary tools to
confront bullying. BJJ does not just teach
children how to defend themselves, it also
teaches them the discipline in knowing
when to apply this life skill, Gonzalez
says.

Desiree Pagliuso also urges parents to

enroll their children in mixed martial arts,
as she did with all three of her children:
Dominic plus Malia, age 6, and even
Kiana, age 4.
For the parents interested in getting
their kids into a sport, you will learn so
much more from martial arts than in
anything else and will be able to take that
black belt as a trophy for the rest of your
life, she explains.
For Dominic, jiu-jitsu means the world
to him, and having the support of his
family, sponsors and instructors behind
him has helped him to overcome hurdles
with Aspergers and has shaped him into
the champion he is.
I am so blessed that Moya has given
me a few gis and that I am able to train
four times a week. The people who inspire
me the most are my professor and my dad
because both have helped me at my
tournaments and help challenge me in my
training, Dominic sayswho now serves
as an inspiration to us all.

New School

The 1980s were a heady time in America.

The space shuttle launched for the first time. The
Nintendo Entertainment System hit stores. In the
movies, a young kid and a mad scientist were using a
DeLorean to skip through time.
And in the midst of all this, a martial arts explosion
was sweeping the nation, fueled by action stars like
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sho Kosugi.
In 1993, a little thing called the Ultimate Fighting
Championship took place and things have never been
the same in the martial arts world. The effectiveness of

traditional styles were called into question.

But in the past few years, as fighters like Lyoto
Machida and John Makdessi have made waves in
MMA, attitudes have started to change and many
within the MMA community who had written the
traditional arts off, are starting to give them a second
look.
We decided to round up a handful of instructors
representing karate, kung fu, taekwondo, and judo
and see what kind of insight they had into the recent
trend of traditional stylists finding MMA success.

The Instructor: Tom Muzila

His Art: Shotokan Karate
His Rank: 5th Degree Black Belt
Decades in Training: 5
Website: www.tommuzila.com
Tom Muzila knows a thing or two about combat. An ex-Army Green
Beret, he has worked in the bodyguarding industry for more than 30 years,
having protected clients like Bruce Willis and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Muzila also happens to be a fifth degree black belt in Shotokan Karate.
Getting into a number of brawls in his younger years, Muzila pursued
martial arts to become a stronger, tougher, better fighter. After
encountering a variety of uninspiring schools that seemed to lack focus
and intensity, he found his way to a Shotokan Karate of America (SKA) dojo
in downtown Long Beach, Calif. The experience was life changing.
I could hear this yelling and screaming, he says as he approached the
dojo. And when I walked in, guys were being thrown over the rail and
through the wall, and at first I thought I had walked into a bar fight. The
hair on the back of my neck stood up. The energy was so powerful.
He was sold. Hes been involved with karate ever since. Today he
realizes that the winds have changed in the martial arts community.
More and more people are interested in MMA, he says. A lot of
people are being attracted to it, which is taking away from traditional
karate.
He goes on to say that some people feel that MMA is better than any
other style of fighting.
It depends on who you are, your abilities and who your teacher is and
how he came up.
He believes the old adage is true: Its the stylist, not the style.
If you have a really good instructor who tries to make everything
realistic and effective, it doesnt really matter what style it is.
To Muzila, guys like Machida, John Makdessi and Ryan Jimmoall of
whom have strong karate backgroundsare proof that in the hands of
someone who understands the art, it can be an effective tool for fighting.
I love it! he says of the recent success of fighters with traditional
backgrounds. I think its great. It proves, you know, that what [SKA
founder] Mr. Ohshima has been teaching and what Ive been practicing
works. Its effective.
And ironically, because of this success, MMA is now starting to

Dana White said it. But is it true?

Mixing fighting systems together has undoubtedly been going on since ancient times and MMA-style events have been seen in Brazil for
nearly a hundred years. So declaring anyone to be the Father of MMA is probably a bit presumptuous.
But Lee was certainly a trailblazer in that he de-emphasized rigid styles and systems and focused on using only what works, borrowing
from many martial arts in the process.
For many at the time, this was a revolutionary idea and it changed the way a lot of traditional stylists thought about fighting.
While he may not be the father of mixed martial arts, the reverberations from Bruce Lees impact are certainly felt in the sport to this day.

Weve been getting more people back with more faith in traditional
karate, says Muzila. They can tell that traditional karate has some real
positive benefits.

His Rank: 4th Degree Black Belt
Decades in Training: 3
Website: http://paceacademytaekwondo.blogspot.com/
Im an MMA guy, says Will Pace.
But he doesnt do MMA. Hes not an MMA instructor or a fighter. And he
never has been. So what does he mean when he says hes an MMA guy?
Attitude, he clarifies.
As a fourth degree black belt in Olympic-style taekwondo, and the owner
of Pace Academy Taekwondo in Salt Lake City, hes had a lot of students
come through his doors. And one thing he always stresses is attitude.
When I train my kids to compete, I tell them all the time that I want
them to fight like an MMA fighter, he says. A lot of what we say here is we
dont spar, we fight. I want them to have a fight mentality as opposed to a
getting-a-point mentality.
It seems this emphasis on attitude and mindset has paid off. Hes had
many students go on to have successful competition careers, including state
champions, multiple national champions and two U.S. Open winners. He also
has one student who is a member of the U.S. Collegiate Team.
Pace got involved with taekwondo as many people haveas a kid wanting
to learn martial arts. But he confesses that as an adult, it was MMA that
really captured his interest.
I never really wanted to train in taekwondo, he says. Competitively, I
was really more attracted to MMA. I always have been. But as I got into
taekwondo more, I really found a passion and a love for it, for the science of
it. I love the technicality of it.
Whether justified or not, taekwondo has become something of a
laughingstock among certain segments of the combat sports world, with
comments often being made about how its nothing more than a game of foot
tag with little practical value outside of its very specific rule set.
But Pace feels that this viewpoint is shortsighted and betrays a lack of
understanding of the art.
The majority of people who are making that call dont really understand
Olympic-style taekwondo, he says. Its really dynamic, there are knockouts
every other fight. If you got a guy who is trained Olympically, its a whole
different ballgame. They can do with their feet what you can do with your
hands.
You see the kicking in MMA right now and there arent a lot of guys out

JIMMY PEDRO

and 6th Degree black
belt in judo.

GETTY IMAGES/MULTI-BITS

The Instructor: Jimmy Pedro

His Art: Judo
His Rank: 6th Degree Black Belt
Decades in Training: 4

Judo has seen a lot of success in MMA.
Of all the traditional Asian arts, it is the one that got the first strong foothold in the
sport, with fighters like Karo Parysian, Dong Hyun Kim and UFC womens
bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey all adept at throwing people inside the cage.
One man who has watched this situation develop throughout the years is two-time
Olympic bronze medalist, and 2012 U.S. Olympic judo team coach, Jimmy Pedro. He
has also welcomed MMA fighters into his school.
Both Rousey and Bellator lightweight Rick Hawn have walked through the doors of
Pedros Judo Center for help in improving their game.
Theres no question that MMA has benefited from competitive judokas, who have
little means beyond teaching to make a living using their art. But has it worked in the
other direction? Not really, says Pedro.
Honestly, I dont think MMA has helped judo in any way, he says. There are not
a lot of judo places in the USA for people who truly want to learn judo for MMA.
Therefore, other arts like jiu-jitsu, muay Thai and boxing have benefitted more from
MMA than judo because they offer classes that are geared toward MMA, whereas
judo classes are geared toward training athletes for the Olympic sport of judo.
Furthermore, the International Judo Federation tends to frown upon MMA and its
competitors, says Pedro, claiming that they often dont embrace the deeper principles
of judo such as fair play, respect and friendship.
MMA is a terrific sport, he says, but in the end it is a business, so it must not
only make money but also appeal to the masses. Therefore, there is a lot of trash
talking, good vs. evil and antics by athletes that are barbaric or crass. Personally, I am
a fan of the classy MMA fighter like a Georges St-Pierre or Jon Jones, who choose to
do their talking through their fighting.

there who kick well, Pace continues.

In his opinion, instead of being a useless art in MMA or other combat
sports, it is the exact opposite: It is an under-utilized art. Within the four
walls of his dojang (martial arts academy) these days he is training a local
MMA competitor in taekwondo to help him with his kicks.
Pace remarks that hed love to see an Olympically-trained taekwondo
player round out his skills and enter MMA at the highest levels to prove just
how useful the arts skills can be. In the meantime, he encourages those
interested in MMA today to give taekwondo a deeper look and recognize the
substance beneath the style.

themed version of patty cake, as many of the

arts detractors have alleged.
For this lifelong traditionalist, MMA is a
mixed bag in terms of its effect on the traditional
martial arts world.
I think that the rise of MMA has been
positive in so much as it has created an interest
in martial arts all over the world. Plus, good
MMA-style events are very exciting to watch,
especially if the fighters are good technicians,
he says.
But on the flipside, he also believes that the
most negative effect that MMA has had on
traditional kung fu is the idea that the martial
arts are brutal and just about fighting. This isnt
true. All traditional styles of kung fu and martial
arts in general employ health and healing and
usually some type of meditation as part of their
training.
Lamb does support MMA and thinks its a
boon for the martial arts community.
Because of the attention that MMA brings to
martial arts, I think that the future is bright for
everyone involved. Good MMA events are terrific
to watch. Its a great spectator sport and it will
continue to create more interest, especially as
the fighters become more skilled. However, not
everyone wants to become a cage fighter, but
they would still like to have the ability to protect
themselves. So traditional martial arts fill a
definite need. This is especially true for an art
like wing chun, which is truly a thinking persons
martial art. The future is bright, and there is room
for everyone at the top.

Alan Lamb first got his start in martial arts in

He graduated under Sifu Koo Sang, a disciple

MMA-style events are nothing new, even outside

He likes to tell a story of such an event that
took place in the mid-70s in his native England.
According to him, the event had no shortage of
people willing to compete, the ranks of which
included even a member of his own school.
One of my students, Gary Hemmingway, won

down in the first round, Gary came back with a

Lamb has been in the game for a long time

Reaching Cardio Goals On the Versa Climber
H.I.I.T IT!
High intensity interval training, or
H.I.I.T. is a form of exercise performed
in brief intense bouts of maximum
effort, followed by active or passive
recovery.
H.I.I.T. trains and conditions both
your anaerobic and aerobic energy
systems simultaneously, making it an
extremely time efficient and effective
form of exercise.
H.I.I.T. increases the amount of
calories you burn during workouts
due to the ability to repeatedly reach
a maximum level of effort. Mixing
these max efforts with a brief recovery
bouts allows participants to work
harder in less time than a standard
steady state workout.
NO RUNNING
The Versa-Climber has been
selected because it works the entire
body as a unit, rather than just the
legs alone. The low impact nature of
Versa-Climber workouts reduces the
potential for overuse injuries by
lowering or even eliminating impact
on the joints as compared to more
traditional running and/or jumpingbased activities.
There is so much myth,
misconception and misunderstanding
surrounding endurance training or
Cardio for sports, it is a wonder
anyone ever reaches their goals.
The Versa-Climber is designed for
the athlete to stand vertically erect
and in an upright posture on two foot
pedals while holding two handgrips.
Built at a 75 incline angle that
serves to decrease the isolated
weight bearing on the knees, slightly
unload the lower back and to

lean, mean, meat-eating machines, right?
That is not the case for Georgi Karakhanyan,
who is a known vegetarian and also a lean,
mean, leaf-eating machine.
Karakhanyan became a vegetarian in 2006
and left his carnivorous lifestyle behind.
The reason why I became a vegetarian is
because I do not like animals being hurt. I also
believe that being a vegetarian is a healthy way
to live, he says.
According to Georgi, a major misconception
about being a vegetarian is that they are weaker
due to the lack of protein intake from meat.
Vegetarians get more nutrients because of
the type of foods they eat, he says. I get my
protein from whole grains, beans, lentils,
legumes, nuts, seeds and I use vegan protein
supplements from one of my favorite sponsors,
VEGA. They have the best plant-based protein
shake on the market.
Since changing his lifestyle, Karakhanyan has Georgi Karakhanyan, a

is vegetarian.
Overall, it has improved my training because
I have more energy, I recover faster and I cut weight easier, he explains.

THE DIET
To get a better idea of what it takes to be a vegetarian fighter, Georgi has
provided us with an example of his everyday diet.
Breakfast- Veggie omelet with Ezekiel bread and a bowl of hemp cereal with
almond milk. I also add flax seed and chia seeds. Its important to have a good
breakfast to give you a good kick start for a busy day of training.
Lunch- Ill make a veggie sandwich with Ezekiel bread with a spinach and
Persian cucumber salad. For dressing, I use fresh organic lemon. I also add chia
seeds. For the most part, Ill add chia seeds to all my meals.
Dinner- If Im not in fight camp, Ill eat a vegetarian pizza or a chipotle burrito.
For dessert, maybe some Oreo cookies with almond milk. Yes, I can be a fat ass
sometimes! If I am in fight camp I try to make my dinner very light with lots of
spinach salad and some brown rice.
Snack- My favorite is an almond butter banana sandwich with Ezekiel bread.
THE LIFESTYLE
Georgis lifestyle has rubbed off on some of his closest friends. Cub Swanson
even tried to immerse himself into the vegetarian lifestyle.
He tried it for a little while, but sadly he went back to being a carnivore. It has
rubbed off on my coach Romie Aram and my friend and training partner Saad
Awad, he says.
Though it is not a popular lifestyle amongst many fighters, Georgi stays true
to his beliefs and to his food of choice.
I dont want to mention any names but I have no respect for those
fighters that hunt and kill animals for fun, Karakhanyan explains.
The best thing about not eating meat is that I am not killing any animals. I
am against animals being treated as objects. They should be treated with
respect and people should realize they are not on this planet for our
amusement, Karakhanyan says.

EXERCISE OF THE MONTH

Story by Ken Yasuda Photos by Barry Shim

Shoulders Like Boulders

Strengthen You Rotator Cuffs with Cable Rotations

I was there once. A primitive, young lion.

When I had a little pain in my shoulder, do you think I cared? No way, man. I
pushed through it, regardless of how much it hurt.
And then I got smart. Finally. It was time to use my brain.
I started to warm up, and then I worked on strengthening my rotator cuffs before
they got so damaged that I needed surgery or even worse the R wordretire.
You also need to train smart, which is why Im going to show you one of the most
effective exercises for the rotator cuffs. But there is a rule: You have to do this with
strict form and do it without rushing. This is a warm up to prevent injuries.
So first, get some hot tea and relax. Then its time to work out, young lions.
Ken Yasuda is the former head coach of the IFLs Sabres and a former
Mr. Japan.

How To Do It
Keep your elbow up at shoulder level,
and bend your arm.
Your arm should be lifted up to 90 degrees and bent at 90 degrees.
Flex your arm and keep your grip tight by
squeezing your hand hard.
By doing this, your muscles will be working without putting stress on your shoulder,
elbow and wrist joints.
Slowly rotate your shoulder back and
forth. It has to be very slow, and do not
change the angle of your arm.

Key Tip
Do not use momentum when you rotate your shoulder forward. As long
as your shoulder does not feel pain, keep the full range of motion. If it
hurts, make the motion smaller. As it gets better, you can enhance the
range of motion.

The 1-2 Punch

Even If You Dont Have Access to a Palm Tree in Okinawa,
You Can Still Feel the Burn
Last October I was fortunate enough to travel to Okinawa for our BWK MMA Fitness Trainer certification program. My good friend and affiliate Ben Monerie and I decided to film some clips on the beach for my website. We did
not have a ton of equipment. My standard carry to clients is what we had: a bosu, air fit, sledge hammers, bands and
medicine ball.
I got inspired while we were working out and decided to tie the air fit to a palm tree and use the bosu as well. I
knowa little crazybut I am. If the workout I was doing was getting a little easy, how can I challenge myself?
The workout would look the same but every exercise could be made more challenging by being on the bosu to
increase the central nervous. Either standing, or my hands on the bosu, this upped the challenge and activated more
muscles. Isnt that what we all want, anyway?
Okayenough talk. Heres the program I call the 1, 2, Punch! Warning: You will feel muscles you did not know you
had! Perform each exercise for at least 10-12 reps to start. As you progress, increase to 20-30, or go for time as
long as the quality of the form is there.
Coach Kevin Kearns has been the S&C coach to over 15 UFC fighters. His Burn with Kearns system for MMA Conditioning is now
available for certification worldwide. Go to www.burnwithkearns.com for locations and dates. Licensing is available. Contact Coach
Kearns directly at kevin@burnwithkearns.com

Dark side one-legged squats: Stand on the bosu and hold the air fit. Slowly lower yourself down as low as you can go.
Air fit one-legged push-ups: No bosu required. Just try and lift a leg off the ground.
Air fit rows: Feet on the bosu (bubble side up). Make sure the bosu is not on a slippery surface.

Dark side overhead squats with air fits: Stand on

top of the bosu. Put your arms in the air. Fit straps. Raise
your arms overhead.
Dark side knee to chest: Place your feet in the air fit
and hands on the bosu. Draw one knee to the chest.
Dark side pikes: Place your feet in the air fit and hands
on the bosu. Raise your hips straight up in the air.

Bosu side planks knees to chest: Feet in the air fit,

Keep The Form

At first, perform each exercise with 10-12 reps
Once you are proficient, work your way up to 20-30 reps
Or use a timer and perform each exercise for
30 seconds, working up to 60-90 seconds

When you get tired, it is essential to maintain your

form. That way you target the muscle group and help
reduce the chance of injury. Dont get sloppy!

STRENGTH TRAINING

Delaviers Mixed Martial

Arts Anatomy
Excerpt from the book by Frdric Delavier
Strength training has become indispensable for
mixed martial arts because it improves your effectiveness in
five ways:
It makes your strikes more powerful.
It develops endurance and resistance.

Define Your Goals

How Many Times Should You Train Each Week?
On Which Days Should You Exercise?
How Many Muscles Should You Work in Each Session?

It increases the range of motion in your movements

(for example, in your kicks).
It creates a protective armor that reduces your
vulnerability in a fight.
It prevents overuse injuries. The repetitive nature of
violent strikes can cause premature damage to
muscles and joints. Strength training helps prevent
this trauma so that you can avoid unnecessary
injuries.

Should You Work Your Muscles in a Particular Order?

How Many Sets of Each Exercise Should You Do?
How Many Sets Should You Do in Each Workout?
When Should You Change Exercises?
How Many Repetitions Should You Do in a Set?
How Quickly Should You Perform Repetitions?
How Should You Adjust Range of Motion?

To develop a customized weight training program, we

rely on basic theory that is very important to understand.
Proceeding methodically, we describe each of the 20 steps
that are the key to your personalized program. Once you
have gone through these 20 steps, you will have answered
all the questions about developing your strength training
program.

How Long Should a Workout Last?

What Is the Optimal Amount of Rest Between Sets?
What Is the Most Appropriate Weight for Each Movement?
When Should You Increase the Weight?
How Much Rest Time Should You Take Between Exercises?
How Do You Select Exercises Based on Your Anatomomorphology?
How Do You Know When to Change Your Program?
What Time of Day Should You Work Out?
How Can You Integrate Strength Training Into Your Fight Training?

UNDER
PRESSURE
IN THE LINE OF FIRELIFE AS A BELLATOR
MMA PROMOTER
By Breanna Armstrong
Seven years ago, Bjorn Rebney was sitting on his couch in
Brentwood, California and was struck with an inspirationan
idea that would grow into an empire The Bellator Fighting
Championships.
As the CEO of Bellator, Bjorn Rebney deals with an
incredible amount of pressure on a day-to-day basis. It comes
with running a top MMA organization.
This pressure cannot be seen in his shows, or by the fans, or
in an interview, or captured by any camera. But its there.
Whats it like to walk in Bjorns shoes? Just try to keep up.
BEFORE THE FIGHT
To say that Bjorn Rebney is unique
would be a bit of an understatement.
From start to finish, Rebney is involved
with every aspect and detail of an event.
Even though he travels with his 70-man
crew, Rebney likes things done his way
not even a graphic is allowed on the
screen until he approves it.
If we do an event on Friday, I spend all
day Thursday from before the sun comes
up until the sun is way past down
reviewing every piece in the show.
He rewrites copy. He looks over
billboards. He reviews every shot, every
piece of music, even the commentary
done by the Spanish-language
announcers.
Then I walk through full rehearsal of
everything thats going on from a liveevent perspective. Its a pressure packed
day. Were approaching our 100th show.
Everything is just squeezed into a really,
really small box, Rebney explains.
THE START
BFC exploded onto the MMA scene in
2009. Since then, they produce roughly
25 shows a year on Spike TV, which is
where Rebney himself watched MMA
years ago as a diehard fan.

Which brings us back to the couch

seven years ago, when Rebney was a
sports agent and worked with athletes in
the NFL, NBA, MLB and even Oscar De
La Hoya. He had been around for a
lucrative 20 year career and was a huge
combat sports fan.
I was looking at the success Spike
was having broadcasting MMA and some
of the mistakes that were being made by
groups like the IFL, BoDog, Affliction and
a lot of others. I felt like I had a model that
would work, that could last in the space,
Rebney recalls.
Now with 170 fighters on the roster,
that model has proven itself effective.
I was one of them. I used to buy the
PPVs, tune into Spike for MMA, buy

tickets to local events. It was my hardearned money and it was my time. I look
at it now and I try to approach it the same
way, Rebney says.
THE DAY OF A FIGHT
The weird thing about the day of the
fight is that a lot of the pressure is, at that
point, gone.
Though Bjorn keeps it cool on fight day,
ticket sales are a top concern for any
MMA promoter.
If youre not close to a sell-out then
you start passionately worrying about the
walk-up. What else can we do to get the
word out?
THE AFTERMATH: POST-FIGHT
Bjorn does not sleep after a fight until
he knows his fighters statuses and
sometimes he will actually drive to the
hospital to check up on his guys.
Then he watches a DVD of the fight
from the night before, making notes for his
production team. Then he worries about
the numbers.
Youre concerned about where the
ratings are and youre obviously always
hoping for bigger and bigger numbers.
After checking the ratings, he closes
the book on that show and focuses on the
next one.
UNDER PRESSURE
Like most things that Rebney sets out
to do, he accomplishes them.
He was a scholarship running back on
Ohio Universitys football team where he
would run the stadium stairs at 1 a.m.
while the rest of his team was sleeping.
I put a lot of pressure on myself, but
thats how I function best, on about four to
five hours of sleep a night, seven days a
week. It just fuels my machine, Rebney
says.
Exercise is important, too.
If I can train once a day or if I can go
spar, grapple or go for a four-mile run,
thats the greatest stress reliever Ive got.
Then its back to the grindand we, the
MMA fan, thank him for it.
Breanna Armstrong thinks Bjorn needs to
take a vacation.

IM CHILL, BRO
Ultimate MMA: Do Dana Whites comments ever stress you out?
BJORN REBNEY: Not really. I dont think anybody in their right mind gets into this industry if theyre faint of heart. I dont think people with thin skin get into the martial arts promotion business. Its not for weak-type personalities. If you let comments, posts and interviews
get under your skin and make you nuts, youre not going to have a very long life expectancy in
this game.

ts not easy being the best.

To reach the pinnacle in any endeavor
requires a rare combination of innate
ability, hard work and sheer effort. Add to
that extreme self-discipline, dedication and a
very talented coach or teacher.
Few know this as well as the elite
professional athlete.
The recreational or weekend athlete, much
less the average person, usually cannot
comprehend the total commitment required to
rank among the best in their sport.
MMA throws another variable into the mix. In
other sports a loss is a statistic in a record
book in MMA a loss may signal a life
changing injury.
If a team loses, the loss is shared or
distributed among the players. In MMA, the
loss is carried by one individual. The defeated
competitor knows he alone bears the weight
of the loss. He takes full responsibility. There
is no luck or chance involved in the
determination of the outcome. It is simple: the
better competitor wins, the other loses.
MORE VICTORIES, MORE PRESSURE
When an MMA competitor begins a string of
victories, the pressure to win becomes even
greater. More victories can yield more stress.
And what happens when you do reach the
summit? You now become the person others need
to beat. Other competitors train with the goal of
crushing you. The media speculates about how
long you will keep your title, on how long it will be
before someone topples you from the throne.
Shakespeares observation in Henry IV, Part II
still holds true today, more than four hundred
years later: Uneasy lies the head that wears a
crown.

champion is not just facing human competitors,

but two other adversaries as well.
These foes are just as real as the one glaring
from across the ring only more insidious,
treacherous, and dangerous.
The first is an adversary against which there is
no defense. The champion has to contend with
age. As time passes, he is getting older. How
many years does he really have before a younger
opponent can best him?
We often hear fighters being evaluated and
compared based upon how they were in their
prime. The longer the champion remains on top,
the shorter the time remains that he (or she) will
be in their prime.
The second adversary is equally dangerous,
but there are defensive techniques that can be
employed for protection. In order to reach the
summit, the MMA fighter has to have a strong
psychological focus.
His thoughts had to be focused on victory and
a commitment to achieve and excel. But, as the
pressure to retain an unbroken string of victories
builds, so can self-doubt.
The MMA fighter must enter the ring confident
of victory. There can be no room for doubt. Once
he begins to doubt himself, he will begin to
succumb to defeat. He may recognize that he is
in the twilight of his reign, but may not be willing
to abdicate his throne.
And yet he knows the choice may be made for
him. Is it better to quite while ahead or, in true
warrior sport, fight until defeat? This is a
question that he must struggle against, putting
even more stress and pressure on himself.
It is for these reasons that some champions
actually welcome defeat. It is a relief. It marks an
end to their reign but it also marks an end to the
unrelenting emotional, physical and
psychological pressure that has been their life.
Their next opponent will be how to adjust to
their new life. And, that too, can be a formidable
challenge.

NOWHERE TO GO
It has been said that when you have reached
the top, there is nowhere to go but down. The
pressure to remain on top increases because the

1. FOCUS on his skills, not his birth defect. For those that are
not aware, his condition is called congenital amputation where his
left arm ends just after the elbow, leaving him without a hand.
I was born like this with one hand. I never really dwelled on it or
did any research or asked why. I could either feel sorry for myself or I
could go out and accomplish things and I decided to work hard and
achieve things I wanted to achieve, Nick explains.
2. WHERE did the nickname Notorious come from?
I wish there was a good story about that, but I came up with it
myself, Nick says, because I didnt want someone giving me a
name I didnt want. I just thought of every word that started with an
N and I thought about napalm, but I eventually settled on notorious. I think it rolls off the tongue.
3. WRESTLING for 8 years before joining the MMA ranks, nobody ever tried to talk Nick out of entering the cage. And when he
told his mom he wanted to be a fighter, she didnt know why he
wanted to do it, but if thats what he wanted, then to go right ahead
and do it.
4. THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER show on TV motivated Nick to
become an MMA dynamo.
5. BELIEF in himself can be credited for driving Nick to the glories of doing battle.
I am a competition guy, so the bigger the stage, the higher the
stakes, the better I fight, he says.
6. TRAINING at the Fighting Arts Academy in Springfield,
Massachusetts, his head coach is Jeremy Libiszewski, who runs
Nicks whole camp and is in charge of everything. Nick even stays at
his house during the week. He also goes to Ultimate MMA Training
Center to train with BJJ coach Andrew Calandrelli, who gave Nick a
brown belt.
7. ADAPTATION is key. Nick uses pulleys and bands whatever is needed to make things work to his advantage.
8. PRESSURE used to get to Nick when he wrestled and he
felt like he did not accomplish as much as he could have because he
psyched himself out. He then promised himself that he would not let
that happen again, to just fight with everything he had until there was
nothing left.
The mental game is where I am very strong, Nick says. I make it
a point to be at 100% in my mental and physical game and just see

yards away from you is surreal, to say the least.
Sefo is a living legend. At 42 years old, he has
been a professional fighter for more than half of
his life.
Even though he did not defeat Dave Huckaba
at WSOF 4, he received nothing but respect in
the cage that night.
He set the bar for his own fighters and set it
high.
Ray took all in attendance to another level as
a promoter who steps up and stands behind his
organization 100 percent.
He proved that he will fight for what he believes in. Literally.
An organization with backing like that is why
WSOF has been the successful, new promotion
that it has become.

MMA AROUND THE WORLD

RFA

Story by Breanna Armstrong

Home Sweet Home

RFAs Pedro Munhoz Made His Home In the Octagon and In America

RICH MAN, POOR MAN

Munhoz moved to the U.S. in 2010 to
train at Blackhouse MMA, adding to a
roster of fighters considered to be some
of the best athletes in the sport. The
camaraderie has meant everything to
Munhoz, who says that there was no
pressure when he first started training
with some of the biggest names, like
Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva.
Though he misses his friends and
family in Brazil, he still visits once a year
and uses FaceTime to talk all the time. Yet
he feels completely at home in America.
Its safer to live here, Pedro says. The
only people with money there are corrupt.
In Brazil, it is harder to train MMA
because everything is more expensive
than it is here. MMA is good in Brazil too,

Pedro Munhoz vs. Jeff Curran at RFA 9 on Aug. 16.

ID REALLY LIKE THE

OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE UFC,
IM NOT SCARED TO FIGHT AND
LOSE, I FEEL LIKE IM READY TO
FIGHT THE BEST IN
THE WORLD.

BLANCA MARISA GARCIA

FEARLESS
Though he is undefeated, Munhoz says
that he is not afraid of losing.
I have had more than 300 jiu-jitsu
matches. I won 70 percent of them. I
fought muay Thai amateur fights and
boxing as an amateur. So I know the
feeling very well and I hate the feeling.
Thats why I train so hard, says Pedro
Munhoz.
Id really like the opportunity to go to
the UFC, Im not scared to fight and lose,
I feel like Im ready to fight the best in the
world.

BLANCA MARISA GARCIA

Pedro Munhoz could quite possibly

be one of the most underrated
bantamweights in mixed martial arts.
He has a flawless record of 9-0 and
recently defeated former UFC talent Jeff
Curran for the Resurrection Fighting
Alliance Bantamweight Title at RFA9 on
Aug. 16, in Carson, Calif.
Munhoz is ready to fight the best in the
world and requests the hardest fights
from his manager and RFA President, Ed
Soares.

Pedro Munhoz and Jeff Currans comical standoff

at RFA9 weigh-ins.

Pedro Munhoz

Fast Facts
but here youre three steps ahead, you
support the fighters more.
In Brazil, were not rich, were not poor
and not everyone has the opportunity that
I have. Thats why I thank God every day
because I have a really nice life, he says.
I want to say thank you for this
country. They opened the door for me and
gave me this opportunity. I feel like Im
born and raised here. I feel like I am
American, Munhoz says.

MMA AROUND THE WORLD

MIDWEST

The Hype Behind the Hype

Smack Talk Is Good for the Sport
by Victory Jay

ANYTHING GOES
When MMA first came onto the scene
there was a large push to immediately
differentiate the sport from professional
wrestling. This was real fighting, not the
fake stuff you see on TV.
Slogans identifying events as real live
cage-fighting were slathered over posters
and VHS covers, showing the most
gruesome photos to identify itself as a
blood-sport. Professional wrestling
countered this new phenomenon by
branching out into extreme matches
which would pave the way to popularize
the over-the-top backyard wrestling
events.
At one point there was even a staged
MMA event hosted by boxing legend
Sugar Ray Leonard featuring an
assortment of crazy characters including
The Viking Tony Halme, who in a strange
twist would go on to face Randy Couture
(for real) in his UFC debut.
PRIDE NEVER DIE
Years ago, when the Pride Fighting
Championship was in its full (former)
glory, there was quite a bit of pro
wrestling crossover. Japan, being heavily
interested in wrestling entertainment,
accepted and supported fighters regularly
traversing the boundaries from fiction to
reality.
Many professional wrestlers were also
trained in the fighting arts, rooting all the
way back to hook and shoot pioneer
Antonio Inoki. Pride was able to attract
the crowds from not only the MMA world,
but from the wrestling world as well and
the crossover from scripted wrestling to
reality fighting helped to build some of the
largest MMA crowds in the history of the
sport.

88 | ULTIMATE MMA | www.ultimatemmamag.com

JOSH HEDGES, ZUFFA LLC

With the rise of Bellator and its

cross promotion with Spike TVs TNA
wrestling, many MMA stars are making
the crossover to professional wrestling.
The most recent cameo has come from
former UFC champions Tito Ortiz and
Quinton Rampage Jackson as they build
up to their main event faceoff heading
Bellators first step into the PPV arena.
But many fans are worried that the
wrestling hype could be harmful to the
sport of mixed martial arts.

Chael Sonnen pulls a page from Billy Graham's book. Is it hokey?

FOLLOW THE SCRIPT

One of the primary reasons that it is so
difficult to build hype around a fighter in
MMA is that sidelining injuries are a
regular reality and a loss can happen at
any time. Fans will follow a fighters rise to
the top, only to see him drop out before
the dream matches ever take place.
Professional wrestling is scripted, and
while the storyline can be hokey at times,
the organizations have the ability to build
up to the bouts that everyone wants to
see. If you havent noticed, there is
generally a format to the script, in that the
free televised events hype up the interest
and story arcs to a crescendo through
smack talk, only to force you to tune into
the PPV to find out how the match will
unfold.
A PROVEN FORMAT
We are past the days of having to
prove that MMA is real. People know its
real. They also know that wrestling is fake.
It still doesnt deter them from tuning in
week after week to see what their favorite
athlete is going to do next and it
certainly didnt hurt the PPV ratings when
former WWE Heavyweight Champion
Brock Lesnar made the cross to the UFC.
THE HYPE BEHIND THE HYPE
Seeing Tito, King Mo and Rampage

WE ARE PAST
THE DAYS OF HAVING
TO PROVE THAT MMA
IS REAL. PEOPLE
KNOW ITS REAL.
THEY ALSO KNOW
THAT WRESTLING IS
FAKE.
running their mouths on a wrestling
program builds interest, plain and simple.
It also allows them to create a story arc
without derailing the matchups with injury
or loss.
Is it hokey? Sure it is.
But it isnt any less hokey than Chael
Sonnen pulling a page directly from the
book of Superstar Billy Graham during his
victory speech over former champion
Mauricio Rua and that landed him more
hype than the actual match did.

JIN AH KIM DOES

IT HER WAY
Jin Ah Kim (pronounced Gina for you
uncultured slobs) is a Korean beauty who
puts her goals and desires first.
Bet youre probably doing the same right
now.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Jin Ah graced our
shores at the tender age of 8 months old.
Shes an American girl all the way with an
independent spirit.
Jin Ahs parents are Old School, owning
dry cleaning stores in her home town of
Nashville. They wanted their only child to
follow a more old-fashioned path.
My parent are very traditional with the
Korean culture. They think the appropriate
thing to do is get a good job and get married.
But I want more than that.
What does this exotic beauty look for in
the ideal man?
I like a guy who doesnt try to impress me
too much. Someone who has a really good
heart and is smart. And dont try to act like
you have a lot of things when you really
dont. .
