Vision Statement
A teacher has the ability to impact students in various ways simply by the way they teach and
what they teach. To be a teacher, is to be a role model and educator. It is a professional career that requires
a desire to educate young learners and help them grow. With my experiences with teachers and as a
volunteer church teacher for young children, I have created a philosophy and vision of what qualities a
teacher should hold, what skills they should teach, and what elements of the classroom should be
included.
Essential qualities a teacher should avail them self of are the abilities to be a coach that sets high
expectations for each student, be understanding and able to view every situation from another point of
view, be able to adapt and be flexible, be sensitive and respectful to others, and be straight forward with
instruction. I strive to be motivating and supportive of learning (Texas Teacher Proficiencies, 2016). I will
stay away from rewards that take students away from the content as soon as they are removed, as well as
competition that cause students to withdraw from the content (Kagan, 2009, chapter 16.1). I plan to show
motivation through the emotions of myself and the environment I create. I will continuously use my
previous knowledge and past experiences to judge and better understand situations as well as attitudes and
emotions of others. I understand the importance of being flexible and able to adapt to my environment
and those in it (Texas Teacher Proficiencies, 2016).
A teacher should include each essential skill in a growing manner where the basic skills are taught
first then grow into more complex skills. These include communication and social skills, critical thinking
skills, and health education skills that should be incorporated with the lessons of each core subject. Every
student, younger or older, can benefit from developing critical thinking skills (Jensen, 2005, chapter 9).
Students spend so much of their day in school, so as a teacher I plan to encourage social skills that will

benefit all learners. Social contact is highly important and what they experience in school partly
determines how their social skills develop (Jensen, 2005, chapter 7). Because they spend so much of their
day sitting in a classroom, nutrition and exercise are very important. By increasing physical activity in the
classroom, oxygen and glucose in the brain increases and student brains become nourished, alert,
receptive, and students learn better (Kagan, 2009, chapter 4.10).
A classroom should create a sense of community with the layout and interaction with students and
the teacher. The classroom should be learner-based where the teacher is flexible to each student and their
abilities, gives and receives respect, is encouraging and promotes a positive atmosphere, and allows the
students to have a role in the classroom management, giving them responsibility. The physical
environment of a classroom determines whether the room will have little or too much structure, focus,
and management (Hannah, 2013, page 8). I understand the importance of emotions in a classroom and
will work to promote a positivity and respect through the structure and lessons. When students come into
a school and classroom, they immediately look around and make judgements (Jensen, 2005, Chapter 6).
When students walk into my future classroom, I want them to feel comfortable and ready to learn. With
this, I also understand the environment needs to include flexible seating that allows team building and
group work, as well as individual work when need (Kagan, 2009, chapter 8.13).
As a future teacher, I hold high expectations for not just my students, but myself as well with the
kind of teacher I wish to become. I am encouraged and determined to learn new beneficial ways to teach
and influence students. Teachers have the power to change a childs life and the way the think and view
the work. Teachers are in a position that can impact every student that enters their classroom. It is a
respectable and honorable position that I look forward to holding. I find very little things to be more
worthy and fulfilling than to have an impact on a students life in a positive way that can make a
difference for not only for them, but for the world we live in.
