Sunday, November 6, 2016 - Twenty-fifth Sunday After Pentecost

A PEEK AT THE SUNDAY SERMON

Sunday, November 6th is All Saints Sunday. Ill be sharing a message titled Called
to be a Saint! Ill be using John 17:13-19 as my sermon text.

In this Scripture Lesson, we have a portion of a prayer. It comes from the heart of God,
spoken from the lips of Jesus:

Make them pure and holy by teaching them

your words of truth I give myself entirely to you
so they also might be entirely yours.
This is the greatest prayer ever prayed! The Gospel of John, Chapter 17, contain the
words of Christ calling all believers to Sainthood!
I cant think of a more appropriate Scripture Lesson for All Saints Sunday can you?

Discussion About Resurrection

For every Sunday of 2016, the official United Church of Christ calendar lists
recommended Scripture readings. On Sunday, November 6th (the Twenty-fifth
Sunday after Pentecost) they include Luke 20:27-38.

27 Then

Jesus was approached by some Sadducees religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from
the dead. 28 They posed this question: Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no
children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brothers name. 29 Well,
suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children. 30 So the second
brother married the widow, but he also died. 31 Then the third brother married her. This continued with all
seven of them, who died without children. 32 Finally, the woman also died. 33 So tell us, whose wife will she be
in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her!
34 Jesus

replied, Marriage is for people here on earth. 35 But in the age to come, those worthy of being raised
from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage. 36 And they will never die again. In this respect they
will be like angels. They are children of God and children of the resurrection.
37 But

now, as to whether the dead will be raisedeven Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning
bush. Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to
him.

In this passage we find the Sadducees doing their best to trap Jesus with a clever
question. They were a group of Church leaders who adhered only to the first five books
of the Bible. They also denied the existence of angels, the existence of spirits, and the
reality of resurrection. The response from Jesus reminds us that as Gods children, we
will enjoy resurrection to eternal life!

symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of living
things and the promise of new life.

Sunday, November 6, 2016 is

All Saints Sunday.
In our Morning Worship Service we will remember
those who have walked the paths before us and
beside us in faith.
Its NOT too late! If you would like to present the names of those sacred to your
memory that have passed away, please fill out the form on the next page and bring it to
the Church Office or phone the Church Office, 313-344-9808, with your request.
Names will be read during the Morning Worship; a family member or friend will be asked
to join Pastor Kren at the front of the Church. At that time there will be a special time of
prayer.

Morning Commute Gets Brighter!

It is dark in the morning for many folks
embarking on their morning commute. This is
one thing that will change come Sunday
November 6th!
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. and
the clocks fall back an hour. You will see the
sunrise come earlier, shedding some light on
your a.m. commute.
